Remember when cars used to come with manuals that had details pictures of how to actually fix issues? I currently drive a Dodge Durango R/T (which I really love), and my turn signal went out the other day - almost had to take it in to the dealership to get it replaced! A $7 part would have cost me approx. $300 to get replaced!! It's how they built the headlights, made it almost completely inaccessible. Only thing that saved me what KZbin videos - but I still had to remove the full air filter assembly to change a simple turn signal!! Crazy times. Cheers for the videos Mike … really enjoy them.

Not much is really considered for maintenance. The priority is mostly of high efficiency and profit margins Cheers!

Hopefully the universe throws me a break and I can get this car on the road soon=)=) Will definitely fix the hood...it looks much worse than video shows. Mike, Thanks for all the work documenting the restoration process in workable steps for the DIYers. I agree that the engineering and workmanship that Porsche put into these cars is top notch but it has become clear during my restoration that they did not intend or have the knowledge for these cars to last 50+ years. The fact that there are so many still on the road or being restored goes to show me that the excitement of that original platform still continues to this day.

I can't even believe it! Just wow! I see why it was so important that you got a unharmed orginal to start with, that seems like it would be impossible if not. 3 mm that consistent all the way back and forth in some parts? omg, I didn't even really consider about the paint thickness but that certainly could throw it off which means all the way down to the metal everything needed to be perfect. Including moisture, dry times, mixtures, gun tips, cleanliness. I need to go back and see those stages again, just hard to believe! Nice to know also about the fuel lines and concourse info. Hello Christopher Yes Porsche tolerances are unbelievably tight. It all has to be considered in early mockup and bare metal. The biggest problem for a novice painter would be too much build up of materials. Its Tight Tight! Not much forgiveness there. Im glad to finally be through it..it took forever to dial this car in! I was just watching some of your old videos and here comes the notification for a new one! Well said about the fuel lines, ethanol eats fuel lines like crazy, should be replaced every 10 years in any vehicle, unless you want your classic car end up in fire like that poor F40 in Monaco. I know there are different specs but we use Cohline 2192 here in Europe which is what BMW uses as OEM (theres a different type for in-tank lines, the above is not for inside the fuel tank). The American fuel line spec SAE J30R9 is stricter than the European spec DIN73379. Make sure any fuel lines you buy has the spec on it and is not old stock...

The rear/bottom of the engine deck lid cover was set at the factory to hang 3mm below the rear/back of the fender. This is on my 73.5T, never removed. It always bothered me until I saw a bunch of other 911's with similar overhang. Now, I simply accept that's the way they were built.

Hello Walt Thanks for sharing this with us! I can see where its almost impossible to flush the bottom edge and clear the top of the lid without rubbing paint..It drove me crazy trying to adjust it out. The geometry how it all works as its opening is almost impossible to get it to work. Also these cars were hand build and assembled..much like the radius on the door to fender area varies greatly from car to car. Do you know what the spacing is at the top of your engine lid to back window? Im guessing 5mm?

My thought on this rear deck lid 'overhang' is that Butzi Porsche designed that rear overhang to complement/balance the design of the front (long) hood overhang -i.e, to lend continuity to the cars overall design. It was intentional. (Just a guess.)

Hello Clavin thank you Yes anything is possible with these cars and these tight tolerances..I would think the targa and cabriolet models would endure some of the body stress you are seeing. The coupes should be more ridged but physics will prevail. Its possible I will need to re-vist the door gaps. Ill let you know the outcome Cheers!

Hello Mark Yes modern fuels are the enemy for rubber and fuel lines..Even using the best materials available to us today..eventually the fuel will prevail. Even the smell fo gasoline doesn't smell like gasoline anymore. It smells more like a solvent

Mike - when you say "high-pressure fuel line hose", are you replacing what is there now with braided rubber or braided stainless stell hose or smooth rubber hose? I need to replace my fuel line as well with 5/16" hose - I'm told either braided rubber or smooth rubber is OK, so I'm wondering which is best. I was also wondering what length I should get - the previous shop that did the initial install ordered 5 meters - am curious as to how you're proceeding with this - my car is a '68 912, not a 911, so that may make a difference, but I'm not sure about that. Hello rotarybreather..I replied yesterday but for some reason it didn't send.. Anyways thanks you ill try to explain better the high pressure fuel line. On my car its 5/16 and I will busing Gates barricade. Ill attach a link so you can see how it is constructed. Up front on the fuel tank you will need a maximum of 12 inches..in the year 2 meters maximum should do it. Gates-Barricade-Fuel-Injection-Hose-5-16-I.D..html Good Luck!

Have you tried using a needle on those air bubbles, seems obvious to me, and have used it successfully on window tint film? But maybe you have thought of this and just adverse to having those holes? It seems like a reasonable way to eliminate an air pocket?

Hello Rozinat This particular decal vinyl material should be able to gas out those bubbles over time. It would be impossible to apply the decal in a way without trapping air pockets. It has something to do with air molecules being smaller than the vinyl molecules or something like that. Im not sure of the actual physics involved. So far we are almost dead flat..A couple more days in the warm sun and I think we'll be successful. Ill keep you posted!

My research shows they arrived on the scene in 67 following the 67 911R race car..thats the first evidence I have seen coming from the Factory.. Perhaps someone could help us here with any historic information regarding factory decals?
