I have always loved this demo. Instead of “just been fooling around,” Tony sings “stopped all my fooling around.” That’s a good message to convey if you want the girl back.😄

My son got me hooked on The Outfield and this is one of my favorites. This version is like so raw and so smooth. They need to go back and find some of these old demos and put them on a cd

Luckily enough, 2 years later, they did!

This has the feeling that one is hearing them live. It's raw and a bit out of balance and it makes the song sound better in some ways.

One of the best songs of the '80s.

Amen to that. Music like theirs will never be duplicated. Is a shame that John Spinks was taken so early in life.

I LOVE the original but there are some nice things on this version. The guitar melody line on the chorus is great (wish they had left it the same on the radio/video version) and a tasty guitar solo as well. Love The Outfield, RIP John Spinks, play on brother :)

Both versions of the song are great, but I love the "rawness" of this version.

Given the nature of '80s radio, if they had stuck to this version of the song, it might have cracked the Top 10 on American Top-40 instead of reaching #31. They really tended to frown on heavier guitar sounds, so this lighter approach would have worked, but hats off to The Outfield for sticking to their guns and releasing the heavier version with the lush guitars!

They should release this version on a new compilation, or if they record another CD, they should put this in as a bonus track.

I think this version is a "previous take" from the original. We can hear less music arrangements and less riffs than the original version.
