Fixing a viewers PC EP1 NXZT H1 GTX1080TI crashing troubles
Sorry about the sound issues at the beginning (rookie error)
After looking through a local Facebook Gaming PC group, Scott seemed to be in trouble and needed someone local to look at his gaming PC.
I offered to do it for FREE ( Scott did give a very generous donation after) , but the reason the repairs and investigation could be done free, was the monetisation of the video and the fix and diagnostic to be filmed and documented on KZbin
So here we have the first episode of my version of Greg's "fix or flop" series but with far less production value, but with the same intent, to try and fix computers and help other learn about PC repairs and diagnostics.
(I did try to contact Greg about the use of the phrase - no reply)
So This is the first PC to fix and it was bluescreening and generally unstable, The Case is the compact NZXT H1 (with the modded GPU cable)

Had this exact same issue. CPU temps jumping to high 90s immediately after starting stress test. Drained, cleaned and refilled the AIO as per these instructions. Now I'm at ~65c under stress test (i9-9900k), which is cooler than when my H1 was new. If you have good tips or tools on how to get all the air bubbles out then I'm all ears. That was the most difficult thing in this whole ordeal. 😂

Air coolers are real workhorses. They're made to last. The only thing you have to do is change the old fan for a new one and you're ready to go.

I had blue screens for months i changed Mo Bo weeks later changed ram and i would still just randomly get blue screens troubleshooting for weeks finally found a video similar issue saying POwer supply so i changed it and by damn it was aLL along however the PSU still works to this day in other Systems and tests come back clear so sometimes my point is it can get really frustrating troubleshooting ! I enjoy it in most cases as long as i have another pc to use or its not my main system then its squeeky cheeks time lol happy hunting my friends

Aio & watercooling loop always gave me anxiety.. idk why.. i think they going to fail and leaking very often.. and last like 3 or 4 years.. but really prefered mostly air cooler for my pc..

Currently going through this exact problem. Already drained and flushed it out. Had to do it two separate times because after the first attempt, still reached a temp of 104°c 😫. Then discovered super hard chunks of coolant still in the loop. Flushed it for a second time, but then discovered a leak around the metal plate so decided not to test it last night until right now watching your video. Leak is gone for now and now temps are in the 40s on idle. However the pump is still very noisy so I will uninstall the pump to check it, and then reassemble everything to see if it makes any difference. Literally only doing this because of your video so thank you. I'm building a complete new build in this case anyway with a new b550i mb, ram, storage, r5 5600 and now a new low profile CPU cooler too just in case so either way I should be ok 😅.

Congrats on the new series! I had the sludge problem with my Lian Li Galahad 360 AIO on a AMD R7 5800X. Switched to the new Scythe Mugen 5 black Air cooler, and temps are even cooler than when the AIO was new.

Mike, top tip: Get yourself a Dehumidifier, it makes De-Ionised water, (roughly a pint and a half a day) this is how i make my own watercooling fluid, just add a drop of biocide job done. and it also has the benefit of keeping your house warm in winter lol. you need a syringe for these really.

Great video, very interesting! Crap AIO cooler... how can they sell this faulty gear!? Btw... I have an older PC (i7-3770K) where the CPU temperature is shooting up to over 100 degrees at startup without any unusual voltages or other other reasons. It often shuts down then and I have to keep restarting until the temperature suddenly comes down to normal and the PC runs absolutely fine! Any idea someone? Could it be that the temperature sensor in the CPU is defect?

Hi, Mike. For a minute there I thought Greg Salazar had gone bald. 😂 Oh, did you add a growth inhibitor to the ionized water? If not that gunk could be back in about 6 months. I always use PrimoChill Liquid Utopia.

Nicely done drying out and sludge happens a lot more so with aio. I been a service engineer since the old zx amstrad bbc etc through 286/386 to current gen and you still learn something new and come across a repair to tax you

hi, i'm having issues with my new 1080ti (inno3d ichill) everything's fine until i started to play games just for a while, it crashed and rebooted my pc (while playing something like metro redux it was running fine at 60fps max settings, skyrim, doom eternal they're all fine) should i underclock the gpu? or flash my bios? my spec i3 12100f ram 16gb 3200 m.2 1tb psu750w gtx 1080ti

if other games are working fine it would point to the game in question, maybe a driver update or downgrade might be the answer, or check your PSU rails and see if they dip to much

Any PC with a water cooler past one year old that is getting hot I would first test it by putting an air cooler on the cpu and see what the temps are. It is a common problem with water coolers that get clogged up inside usually at the cpu heatsink or the pump or both.

Currently have no reason to personally, yes their actions in some regions are questionable but for the majority or our viewers in the Uk USA Australia etc seem to be getting at least some level of service. MSI like a lot of companies has sub divisions regionally and they choose to do things differently sometimes, that is life sadly and it really does depend where you live to how good an experience you get, in all aspects of life. Overall I find MSI to not be offensive or at least no more than others we deal with. If we black list any companies that we have an issue with there would be no one left to buy from

Putting an AMD processor in THIS computer case is a suicidal thing unless you're using a custom Liquid Cooling solution. DON'T PUT AMD or an i9 in a H1 case.

@@mikesunboxing Thanks a lot. Manage to fix the AIO after 3 years of use. I carefully drain the coolant out and got about 100ml. I managed to re-fill 150ml in afterward. Suprise to see that it has lost almost 1/3 in 3 years time.

Hi Mike. This is nice to know just in case my H1 needs the same fix some time in the future. Running the same cpu-z stress test on my 5600x (@4500 MHz) the cpu temp levels out at 60°C so I don't have a problem at the moment. One modification I did make quite early on in my system is fitting two 140 fans at the rear which makes a massive difference to thermals. I know this case had a bit of a slamming in the media due to the riser cable issue but I think it's an excellent bit of kit, especially for the £100 I paid for it. Thanks for the video.

Another helpful video thanks Mike. I didn't realise AIO units required regular maintenance like this, I thought the whole purpose of them was"install and go" and that was it, unlike building and incorporating your own watercooling system. I was just about to pull the plug on the NZXT H1 V2 case for a new build as well... but I'm hesitating now. My existing build which is about three years old just uses an air cooler and it's been fine, no issues like this. What's your view on the reliability of the water cooler in the latest V2 revision of this H1 case? Liable to have similar problems?

i would like to try the v2 version to validate the system, but i would think that the AIO should be okay in the newer version

@@mikesunboxing I was going to use the Gigabyte AMD A520i AC motherboard in the new build. It has 2 System Fan headers and one CPU Fan header. Can I ask which header type should the AIO Pump be connected too, and which the AIO Cooler Fan? I know you mentioned this in this video, but I can't seem to locate it, and there is no dedicated AIO Pump header on this board sadly! Thanks again for all the help and the videos, they're great!

Answered my own question sorry... here it is, if of help to anyone else: "Control of the cooler is done via your motherboard BIOS. The 4 PIN PWM connector from the included 140mm AER P Static Pressure fan would be connected to your CPU_FAN and the 3 PIN Pump Tach would be connected to an SYS_FAN connector. To adjust speeds, you would need to enter your motherboard's BIOS to adjust the fan curves for these connections."

I enjoy all teardowns was always wondering if there is antifreeze in AIO`s , you never can tell tempatures during shipping.Also helps to slow down electrolis there would be metal exchange with the metal raditor hot to cold over the life of the cooler.Good content.

I actually just helped a friend with this exact issue! the gunk in the microfins causing my friends 5800x to overheat and shut down, tried remounting the cpu block multiple times to see if it was some kind of mounting issue but noticed that the tube on the inlet side was considerably warmer than the outlet and after flushing the block / rad it was sitting around 40c. I was so worried it was the pump that had somehow died but at least this aio allows for non destructive disassembly.

how did you open up that bleed tube at 23:27? great video btw, wish I had seen this earlier when I performed the exact same fix to my aio (although i disconnected the pipes and flushed the rad/pipes multiple times with demineralised water to get out all the gunk)

@@mikesunboxing finding a replacement 140mm aio cooler shouldn't be difficult or impossible and pretty much is big oversight and gap in the market hopefully something pops up soon because eventually lots of people will have similar issues with the pump in time

Are these NZXT H1 aio very similar to the MSI Mag CoreLiquid? if so they seem to suffer the same issue as the MSI one did, it seems that MSI are playing that down, with the lack of RMA, so mine headed to the great bin in the sky, and replaced with a Air Cooler.

it is a similar issue, although in this one it looked more like some type of grease rather than mould or sediment

Same goes for the Fractal Design Lumen series, same pump design in the radiator. Think some of Cougars AiO's, where the pump is in the rad suffer of the same issue.
