Great how-to video, Mike. The safety tips are helpful! Quick question? Is it typical that you press down on the switch to turn things on in the UK?

Thank Sky! Yes it is common for switches and sockets to be flipped down for on. There are on some switches a red marker to show when it is on. So if the switch was the other way the red marker would be facing to the floor and you wouldn't know it was on or live. Here is a picture to show what i mean. www.screwfix.com/p/mk-logic-plus-1-gang-13a-dp-switched-plug-socket-white/14790 These markings where used from around the late 70's onwards so it has become a normalized thing for a few generations.

How can it be the best light switch when you have to wait in-between uses

There isn’t a better option on the market so that makes it the best by default

Thanks Tony. It is growing on me. But i do think they could be a little cheaper to encourage further expansion.

The return is called a switch wire

Thanks Keith, appreciate the info. I hear it called so many things on different sites and videos, and an electrician i am not :-)

No neutral required? One cable is live the other is switch live on a normal fitting, what's going on in your house, also I might think of a rewire, the plastic on those cables eventually will degrade, and the new colours are inexpensive, if your a fully qualified electrician rewire your house and put a new fuse box on it, if you have to get someone else to do it your looking at around 2k

Some homes have the additional wire that is sometimes referred to as a neutral from what I have researched. And this is required to power most of the smart switches on the market. So that is a live and a return plus the extra colour cable and an earth. Good point about the rewire

and how the hell this crap it's working without a neutral wire? ooohhh...via earth...well...crap...i bet your rcd won't be happy about that if you mount those switches in mass and exceed the threshold of the rcd. just a tought

i'll be honest i don't know how these work in the electrical sense, but i understand your point. How many of these do you think would be needed to cause the issue you mentioned?

@@mikesunboxing a rcd kinda keep track of balance between live current and neutral return current (in a simple to understand way), if this balance tips one side, it trips the rcd, that's why it's not a grate idea to use earth as neutral, every switch will tip the balance a little bit. How many?well, that depends on how low power is(taking in account waiting time between switching the lights, i guess it's build low power) and also depends on the rcd threshold. Anyway, i like the fact that the mecanical switch trips also. I would buy them only because of that and use them with neutral installed. Hopefully the waiting delay can be hacked

@@kyme32 thanks for the reply, i don't know for sure that is uses the earth return for power, i think there is a capacitor of some kind that holds some small amount of power for switching, and that is why it can't be quickly turned on and off again, i could be wrong of course
