Android sound problems can be a real pain, but with some fault finding and maybe the help of an APP you might be able to fix the problem without an expensive repair or worse, a new phone!
Most Android audio problems are caused by either, the headphone jack or APPs not releasing the mic or speaker to the APP you are trying to use.
Sometimes just cleaning the headset port can fix the problem, but sometimes it is necessary to dig a little deeper to get things working again.
Follow some of the tips in the video and you should get back up and running.
Some of the App I use are:

There are others that claim to help fix the problems but I haven't used them yet so i won't recommend them.

Hey I know this is a late post, received the Google pixel 2xl second hand, it runs perfect and the screen is fine. However, the audio seems to be out of touch. I can't play any music or anything. No sound. Sound comes out for like 2 seconds and then goes inaudible and quiet. Very tiny sound from the top speaker but none from the bottom. Idk what to do. I've researched and can't find a solution. Maybe its a hardware issue? Hope I can get a reply. Thank you.

Hi Pilatus I would recommend first make sure the contact points are all cleaned and try using some alcohol or electrical contact cleaner to make sure it is perfectly clean and all the prongs make good contact. Also do the same for the USB port and maybe try using a different cable just to eliminate that as a potential problem. If all that doesn't work, you are best off trying to contact the seller and requesting a replacement or refund.

if it is the mic it is possible it is a hardware failure and the mic needs replacing. If you do a factory reset and don't install any apps and the mic works, it is a software conflict

Hey Mike, so this problem started yesterday (non-stop raining) in my area. The audio in call is very choppy. For few seconds i can hear the person's voice then the next few seconds complete silence. I have full signal connection. My internet is very slow (started from yesterday too). I don't know if this because of the constant raining or hardware problems. When i googled, it says i might have bandwidth problem. Before this i never had any problem. Everything else works fine. Just the audio in a call and my internet. What do you think ?

@@mikesunboxing I mean it's a USB C m3 Boya. It look very basic and no switches on it to change anything. I just wonder if it's a limitation of the usb C port itself. I will return it and go for the BY-M1 mic with a usb c adapter to 3,5. I hope that will work otherwise I don't know. I can't be the only one wanting to hear my phone while also having functioning mic? Thanks for your response and the video was nice. I tried it didn't work. There was dust in my speaker so I couldnt hear calls. I got a safety pin and cleared the dust. Also used a dry toothbrush can hear calls now. Hope it works for you!

Thanks Mike I knew some how that android was not returning control to my internal mic after unplugging my headphones or headset, and couldn't find the answer anywhere for switching the internal back on.Disable headphone app did the trick. Thank you!

Any idea how to remedy this problem: I have a samsung note 9 when I am on Loudspeaker in a call the person on the other end cannot always hear me it's intermittent with words in a conversation, sounds like I am million miles away, cuts out completely or can be muffled. The phone is all up to date on updates and speakers aren't blocked, its sat on my dash in truck so nothing restricting speakers and both myself and the other side have full signal. Dead mic or dirty headset socket stopping the mic working? Try soundabout or audiorouter to force the audio to mic, or try cleaned the headset port with a tooth pick or tooth brush.

I have a Moto Z2 Play I think it is Oero version and Android version 8.0.0, my speaker and talking audio does not work neither does my headphone jack. The phone is only about 15 months old. Hello mike thanks for this video. I have this problem that when I make or receive a call the other person can not hear. If I use the loud speaker then they can here. The mic seems to shut off in the call. Mic is fine when tested. Factory reset worked for a day or two and the problem resurfaced. Google assistant is off. Never used it. Hi there! I have a problem with my phone's speaker. Since two days if I use my speaker in a phone call or if I watch a video or listen to any kind of media the volume just goes down until I don't hear anything. But if I press the volume up or down buttons it shows on the screen that the volume is at maximum but I still don't hear anything. The problem only occurs when I use my speaker if I have a call without the speaker on or I use headphones or some bluetooth speakers everything is fine. You probably have some water in the microphone, you could try a very small piece of tissue/fabric to see if you can absorb it, or leave it in dry rice overnight, trying not to let any rice get into the outlets. Let us know how you get on.

I do really need help about this annoying issue I'm dealing with • I have an Xperia L2 (Android 7.1.1, Nougat) • It loses its audio capacity very often. I get so annoyed that all these vids on this subject have the nerve to include "make sure your microphone is working" or "make sure your speaker isn't clogged with debris" - what kind of a moron do they take us for!!! Here's the story: my buddy and I have the same cheap android phones. When we call landline phones, the person on the landline can hear us but we can't hear them. might be VOIP call software issue if it works via landline that doesn't use that protocol, so likely a software bug either not engaging the audio chip when it needs to

Just a matter of finding out what app is not behaving as intended. If you backup and erase the phone and try it with no extra apps installed to confirm it works okay then add a app or two and carry on testing you should be able to work out what app it is that messes the phone up, or try using a different dialer app for the phone that sometimes helps

well I bought a brand new phone and for some reason when I call the other side couldn't hear me.... I know it wasn't a dirty mic because its brand new, so I was checking every setting and every app permission took me almost a whole day, then I noticed when I tried to make a call the Mic Mute button was highlighted, I must of pressed it when I was calling by accident, the new phone has a very touch sensitive screen.... so haha yeah make sure the mic isn't muted while calling!

My problem is I sound like a robot or muffled or cutting out when I call someone. But when I call on messenger they hear me fine. I have a Nokia 3.1 plus through Cricket Wireless.

maybe try resetting all the mic permissions then re enable the ones you need this sometimes helps? I did a quick video on this today

I'm on Android vs 6 and although I have found and deactivated "OK Google" it still works when I say Ok Google. So basically the de-actification method does not work! Can you help at all please? Thanks for any time on this.

if you stopped the okay google feature but it still responds to ok google then you haven't stopped the service, it may work differently in marshmallow, i will admit i am no expert in version 6, but try and find the google voice and voice training section, it should be in there somewhere. @everyone Anyone else reading this have MM and can give some advice?

Thanks for your reply mike. After much diagnosing I have concluded that the remove google voice fix didn't resolve my problem. I did find a way to stop the google voice option which I will share for the benefit of others - Just hold the google bar until you can move it and then put it in the bin! No google voice bar, No ok google mic! I then replaced the google bar with a Chrome shortcut for easy google search access. The problem I have is very unusual, On any call (recieved or made) my speaker does not work unless I use the speaker phone option and then my call is fine. basically I can only use speaker phone option :-( . I tried a factory reset in case it was one of my apps causing the problem but that did not resolve the issue, sadly I still have not found a way to resolve this problem yet and so if you know of any way I can fix this I would be really grateful. For the record I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (love this phone even if a little old now). Many thanks.

I have discovered just a moment ago that there is no issue when using a headset that is plugged in to the jack socket. I wonder if there are two speakers on this model and one of them is defunct! I have not tried soundabout, I will download and install now to see if that can help me, thanks again Mike. Will be back to let you know how I get on shortly.

Ok I have tried SoundAbout and this did not fix my issue, tried the "let app decide" option on calls and then tried the "Use the speaker" option and it still didn't work. I am 100% sure that I have a broken small speaker. Fortunately it wasn't long ago that I bought this phone and it has a warranty and so I will contact the seller now to resolve this problem. sounds like a faulty mic or the jack is stuck in the inserted position

There is an app on the play store that will generate high frequency tones to force the water out of speakers, give in a quick search on playstore.

Try all the usual things cleaning the microphone port and checking for any obstructions this might help what other things have you tried to resolve the problem

probably a permissions thing, one of your apps is using the mic or earpiece when the call comes in and it doesn't switch back for the phone app. you need to see which app is misbehaving

sound like a microphone issue. Have you tried cleaning the headset jack port to see if the port is sticking in headset mode because it thinks there is still physically a jack plugged in?

buzzing is normally from dirt of debris on the mic and it distorts the audio, but you say it works okay in video?

@@mikesunboxing yes, it does work in video. Later, i found there are 2 microphones. My microphone below(noise cancellation mic) is the one that is broken. So i cant answer phone calls from ear, but through speaker mode because this automatically switches the both mic on. Any methods u can think of within your experience? ( Mic problem )

I have a problem with my Umidigi F1. Purchased a Umidigi F1 7 weeks ago and for the last week speaker for earpiece worked intermittently and now it's not working at all. The earpiece stopped working. I tried a restart and it didn’t work. I even tried a factory reset but without any luck. The earpiece was still have a problem. Do you or anyone else has this problem?
