I have rheumatoid arthritis and severe back injury and have been disabled for 5 years. Left leg was paralyzed. Lots of back infiltrations and cortisone. I lived in Belgium and worked hard for 30 years as an independent baker. I have been living in the countryside in France for 3 years now. I could hardly walk, go shopping and my household. I started walking every day with small steps and now to 5000 to 7000 steps a day and I have never felt so good mentally and physically. I now have a goal to get up every day and in the meantime have become a healthy addiction and I recommend it to everyone. In the meantime I hardly take any medication anymore and I eat very healthy and it feels so good. I have been doing the Wim Hof method for 4 months now with breathing exercises and cold showers and my body and life have changed completely positively for which I am extremely grateful. Thank you for your positive contribution, for which I am very grateful. Namaste🙏💟

It works because your body prefers using bodyfat as an energy source during walking instead of other sources, because bodyfat is a steady and long lasting energy supplier. When you run your body will prefer using glycogen instead of bodyfat. Walking is also a great excercise for when you fast for longer periods of time because it suppresses hunger.

Great advice : After going up to 83kg skinny-fat during lockdown, I started doing 7.5km walks every day. Took 70 minutes. Walking fast, at a pace where I would be out of breath if trying to hold a conversation. Keep pushing till the end of the walk. Dropped 0.5kg per week consistently till I hit 76kg (eg after losing 7kg in approx 3 months ). I did no other physical activity. Stopped eating bread was the only other change I made (and I didn't eat much bread to begin with). Even at a slow pace, say 2 steps per second, means 1000 steps takes 500 seconds so approximately 10 minutes. So 6000 steps in 1 hour, which is probably about 4.5km. If you really march it out (say 3 steps per second ), 1000 steps takes 350 seconds, so approximately 6 minutes. So 10,000 steps in 1 hour, which is probably about 7-7.5km. Definitely doable. If you go with a friend, don't chat : if you're walking hard enough, you won't have breath to do it. In non-lockdown life, you'll probably add another 7,000 steps just walking around doing normal things. So 15,000+ steps a day should be doable for everyone with 1 hour dedicated to a fast walk

This. Going at the maximum pace you can breathe through your nose or complete a sentence but not too much higher so that you're huffing and puffing. That's about the maximum rate your body can burn fat with oxygen, beyond that your body can mostly only burn glucose anerobically, which it will use muscle and protein to make that glucose longer term.

"Some of us do it more than others" That sure is an understatement! And dang, you are a fine specimen to behold. What a great video! I can't say that I learned anything new specifically, but I was reminded of some things I may let fade into the background. Great advice about moving more vs eating less depending on the individual situation. In my case, I need to do both eat less and move more. The Pandemic(which apparently everyone just decided is over) really hurt my progress towards my ultimate form. I wish I had discovered your channel a year ago because you are naturally motivational, and quite knowledgeable. I know it's been a while since you posted this, but I just had to say, you rock man!

even if you work a regular office job -- you can park aways away from your building, you can get off the train one stop early, etc. Or when you go shopping - park way out in the parking lot. There are lots of ways to add walking.

Literally such facts! Walking 10k steps a day for a 180 lb male will scientifically burn upto an extra pound a week which is insane! Walking is the best form of cardio cuz it doesn't spike your appetite, unlike all other types of cardio (which actually makes dieting much harder!)

Nice video Mike. since 10/12/20 i've done 9 weeks lost 2 stone and another 3 too hit my target 15.5 stone. I have bad knees from the army so I've had to get used to walking and i now really enjoy it. 1900 calories a day doing about 3 mile walking is doing the trick for now :)

EASY WAY TO ESTIMATE CALORIES WHEN WALKING Edit: Factors like intensity, scale, etc. of course have an impact. But as a rule of thumb - of just walking casually - this should apply pretty well in the big picture. Something i learned during my weight loss, was that for each KM you walk, you burn your weight in KG in calories. So if i weigh 80kg and walk 1km, i burn 80kcal. Although running will make you more fit, you still will only burn the same amount of calories when going the same distance. Of course it will be faster to run than walk, but It's all about distance.
@ricky29724 жыл бұрын
Intensity should be a factor though, would it not? If you are scaling a mountain and have scaled 1 km, you should expend more calories versus walking 1 km.
@Hopeforsurf4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this is not correct, that's like saying you put in the same energy to lift a feather as you would a 20kg dumbell
@alex223794 жыл бұрын
@@ricky2972 Well yeah, intensity is probably a factor too. But as a rule of thumb, when you're just walking casually, i think it applies pretty well. At least it worked for me, and was far more easy to keep track of than to try and estimate on different websites by amount of time
@alex223794 жыл бұрын
@@Hopeforsurf I wouldn't say you can compare it like that. Of course running for 30 minutes vs walking for 30 minutes will burn you more calories, but you will also have traveled a longer distance. While running 1km will of course of bring you there faster - and it's prob healthier and will make you fitter etc, - you should burn around the amount of calories like if you walked. But of course intensity should have some form of relevance too - i just don't think it counts that much in the big picture.
@PumperPanda954 жыл бұрын
That sounds pretty wrong. This would mean that walking 10km would burn 1000kcal as a 100kg person. Which it definitely doesnt.

I'm one of those lucky enough to have a treadmill at home so when the weather's bad I hop on that. I can barely manage 6km though. Just a bit of useless information, 10,000 steps is about 8km and takes about 1.40 hours depending on your speed and length of stride. It takes me about 1.30 hours to do 6kms but then I only walk at about 3.5 - 4 kms per hour. But as he says, if you don't eat right, all the walking will not make a speck of difference and getting the bigger lean body mass also burns more calories. That's true for both males and females. Thanks for a great video.
