Hi Jim, glad you like the video. Sanding sealer is used to raise the grain, and seal the wood. You buy it, but I thin mine down with a thinners, as it dries quicker. If you have the time, watch my video called "A Simple Wax Finish", it goes into detail about the mix ratio etc.. Thanks for the support. Take care Mike

Hello Mike, I really enjoyed watching your video, I have owned a lathe for a few years and did mostly pens but had to stop for a couple years but now I want to turn more than pens and I find videos like yours very helpful. Thanks for helping out beginners like myself. The box is beautiful and I plan on turning similar ones for my wife and daughter. Cheers from Canada

Now I know how to sharpen my tools, thanks mike. I want you to start turning pens, so I can watch those videos. My first attempts at doing a bowl were terrible and it broke off my lathe and hit me in three places. That did it for me, Capt. Eddie suggested I try pens till I get experience , then go back to bowls. I have done 55 pens and I love it , its the damned SKEW that scares the hell out of me. Maybe if I see you rounding a pen with a Skew I will get it . Thanks Tommy
@MikeWaldt11 жыл бұрын
Hi Tommy, my pleasure mate. I am ashamed to say that I have never turned a pen! I will no doubt get into it in the future, but I still have so much to try and learn about the type of turnings I do at the moment. I quite often round square blanks with a skew, there are some good videos on KZbin that should get you started. Take care Mike

Hey Mike I got given a lathe lately with a pretty new chuck but I have a lot of trouble with the piece I'am turning coming off centre so i keep having to re cut the piece to remove the wobble. I place a line on the wood and the chuck to keep them aligned but even with them aligned it still moves. I would be appreciated if you gave me some suggestions.

@MikeWaldt8 жыл бұрын
Hi Pat, my advice would be to research on line, and read reviews and articles, and decide what you want to turn most of to begin with, and what you may want to develop on to as time goes on, and try and get a lathe that will be able to cope with your future needs. Hope this helps a little. Cheers Mike

A nice job Mike really like it, what are button jaws? And do they fit on any chuck? Is that grain typical of sycamore and is it good to work with for a beginner?
@MikeWaldt6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ken, button jaws are for reversing bowls to clean up the foot/base. They are similar to Cole jaws. Most chuck manufacturers offer these jaws as an accessory. Sycamore is a lovely "esay" wood to work with. Hope this helps. Cheers Mike
