Beautiful box Mike, the finial is awesome. I had never turned ash before until recently, I made an ash bowl in a class I had the pleasure of taking from Jimmy Clewes. He happens to live here in Las Vegas and was offering classes to members of my local woodworking club. I really had no idea what to expect from Ash but it turned out to have some beautiful grain and figuring in it. Keep the awesome videos coming! I always love to see what you make next.

I was alerted on Facebook, of all places, about your shout out Mike, and here I was thinking the sudden burst of new subscribers was due to my last video... :) What an amazing honor, coming from pretty much the first wood turner I've subscribed to when I decided to give the craft a try. And a second honor of being included in the same sentence with Al, a person I have much appreciation and respect for. So for all that, thanks. I love the detail of the finial, you make it seem like an easy task.. that wobble in the end when you were finishing was looking edgy, made me think of these hollow tube with strings type of steady rest, I should make one of those too... the way you used your live tail stock with the live center without the pin as press for the finial was cool, I didn't understand what you were doing with that scotch bright pad until you reeled back the stock, I'll need to remember that one. Thanks for a great video!!

Beautiful Finial work Mike, Finials are something I haven't become very adept at making but they are definitely on my short list of turned items to improve at. Beautiful turning Mike and I love the skew. I'm going to follow up your "shout outs" as I did with Albert Furtado. He's the most complete turner insofar as he also does a bit of blacksmithing by making his own turning tools. The last competition at my turning club was for a segmented piece which I hasten to add I didn't have the nerve to enter. The judge was the demonstrator for the day and all of the entries were amazing but some lost points with him because of insufficient attention to the bases of their pieces. I mention this only because it may be of help to beginners who may wonder why you added some detail your box base. Best wishes, Alan.

Very nice, Mike. Very delicate finial; I was glad to see that it was "replaceable". It appears that the ash blank was about 50 mm square?
