Thanks for reviewing these both together. Though they're both pricey, some people may need both of these (particularly pro designers). One is great for design (MX Vertical), the other is better for things that require less hand movement that can be facilitated by a trackball (the Ergo). A pro might need both if they want to prevent pain in their hand, wrist, and arm. At least I've found that to be the case for me after researching these two over the last few days. I feel they're both different experiences. I'm a designer, so I'm at my desktop designing most of the time, moving and dragging pixels across the screen. I don't like Waycom tablets because they're not practical for much other than illustration. I prefer a mouse that allows me to move and mimic drawing when needed (icons, illustrations, photo compositing, painting, etc). But on the other hand, if Im just browsing the web and don't need to mimic drawing gestures and just need to type (cursor adjustments, highlighting text) I'm using the Ergo with the trackball so that my hand and wrist don't move (mostly use the Ergo at home). BOTH save my hand/wrist from strain.

I've been using a trackball of the same form-factor for a good few years and it doesn't help the pain, just moves it somewhere else. Notably, right at the base of the thumb where it connects to the wrist. It's not any less impact than playing with a game controller for hours straight. Tips of the fingers start to go numb too after clicking a good bit, especially clicking the mmb.

I've been using the MX Vertical Mouse for almost 4 months now and definitely agree with: 1. Battery life great - this is nice for anyone who is a graphic designer or does architecture works like me for a long period of hours in a day AND who don't pay attention too much on charging it 2. Wrist Issue - it helped me a lot to reduce the pain I had on my wrist but I'd say it's not just about the mouse that you use. If you're like me who sits in front of a computer for a long period of time it's the proper exercise that will help you. 3. It feels cheap and hollow on my hand but it is very comfortable and it made me more productive with my work. Other than that, Great review Mike Wat!

I got the Logitech MX Vertical mouse too, I think a better way to hold it is to let your pinky finger (and the under side of your palm) rest on the desk, use your pinky as a ground support and move your mouse with other fingers, you will have much better time controlling it this way. ( as oppose to grabbing the entire mouse with your hand at 3:15) I found the MX Vertical mouse very comfortable, if know how to adjust your body to make the best use of this design ~

I purchased the MX Vertical after buying a lot of chinese and perixx vertical mouses, and now i know what is really a true vertical mouse with the MX Vertical, I simply love it! For me, MX Vertical is the best vertical mouse ever made. I think you are wrong with what you say about the pinky finger, is not supported because you need it as every other mouse to raise up the whole mouse when you reach the limits of your mat. I hate all the other vertical mouse that have a thing to rest your pinky finger, you cant raise up the mouse without doing extreme force, and even sometimes the mouse falls to the mat as a rock.

So I want to tell you guys a couple of things about this fabulous ergo mx thing. I think I've been using it for like maybe 16 hours ( not in a row, ofc. It was 3 or 4 sessions, I believe) and I'm ready with my second inmpression. First of all, it's big and for me, personally, it turns each and every scroll wheel spin into a little painful wrist bending. Not good. I also have to stretch my thumb a bit to control the ball. Buttons are hard to reach and pretty tight (more that enough for sure, especially if you want that hold an additional button and get a free scroll functionality. Had to use 3rd paty software to get toggle an additional button to vector scroll, as holding it was tight) Rubber body makes hand sweaty and sticky a bit, affects position swiching. My conclusion would be that this device is good, but nothing that big there. Not satisfied. Thinking abaout retutrning it. And yes, that logi software to me was buggy af. Hope you'll be more lucky than I with this one.

totally agree, what I did was glue a ball of Styrofoam (previously cut and adapted). I did it to have more grip and I glued it with double-sided tape, this does not affect or damage the mouse and it feels like you are holding a ball with your hand at rest on the table.

Apparently the thumb based trackball mice are not as ergonomic as you might think, they can cause "gamer thumb" very easily. The best trackball mice have a big trackball in the middle, that you control with 2-3 fingers (finger operated trackball). Kensington has a lot of these, as does many other brands like Elecom, GameBall, etc. I would also like to add that touchpads are a good alternative. I use Apple's Magic Touchpad on my Windows PC (there are drivers available that make it work), and I don't even have to "click" at all, you can simply double-tap without pushing a single button, and the various gestures keeps your arm and fingers in motion, which promotes healthy circulation of the joints and small muscles.

@renatofrota4 жыл бұрын
Both are very good in this aspect. Maybe MX Vertical is a little better. Using the Ergo, when your hand is "resting" completely on the mouse (off the desk), the scroll is located more at your finger's second phalanx (intermediate phalanx), making the repeated middle clicking a bit unconfortable. For the scroll to be "more clicky" - under your finger's 1st phalanx (distal phalanx) - you need to pull down the hand a bit off the mouse (putting the pisiform carpal bone at the desk as mentioned at 2:47 in this video) - which is how more people tend to use the mouse anyway, but you can feel even more the benefits of this mouse by getting used to rest the hand completely over it.

If the Vertical mouse drops in price then I'm definitely getting it.

I say this with the utmost respect for what you do: "mouses"? The plural is "mice". Everyone else gave you the tip with the lighting, so I think it's also important to getting the verbal parts right ;-)

Great Review! Just a good advice, please set a little bit more light on the forescene, it is too dark. The background is OK, but viewers can not see the item you are talking about. Btw I will go for the Ergo after your Review. Thanks!

For the ergo, do you need to install the software? Is it also Logitech options?

I didn’t believe in ergonomic mice until I started editing an hour per day. Holy cow did my wrist start to hurt.

I've had an MX Vertical for just under two years. The left button is failing, effectively making it impossible to click and drag. The buttons feel pretty cheep and so whilst it's really disappointing, it's not really a surprise it failed so early.

Didn’t we get rid of the trackball like 20 years ago?

5:10 I always looked for a new mouse with tilt-scroll wheel... But in the end it is also ok to scroll normally with pressed Shift key. Works in spreadsheets, graphic editors, web, everywhere. Of course program tilt move for some action in Logi Options is different story.

This was a great review of the two options. A few years ago when I was working in an office, I requested a trackball mouse because I was having a lot of pain in my wrist. They gave me a wired Logitech Trackman Wheel mouse. It took only a couple of days of using it and I was hooked. The stress on my wrist & forearm reduced down to nearly nothing. Now that I work from I still use this mouse for my office work. My only problem is that now I want to clean up the look of my desk since I don't have a dedicated office space separate from my living space. I'm definitely going to add the Logitech MX Ergo Trackball mouse onto my shopping list. Now to find a wireless ergonomic keyboard that I really like.

But why does Logitech say that their vertical mouse is not usable for gaming? Btw, I have the Evoluent D Medium.

you don't need ergo mouse at all. if your arms hurt, then it's the signal, that you need some rest. just stop working for 5-10 min and do some basic stretches. that's all
