EPISODE 6 OF A SERIES OF 25 VIDS FEATURING MIKEY'S AWESOME KIT COLLECTION.
I recently bought a couple of kits off Mikey and ended up chatting to him online and managed to secure myself a visit with him at his home to document his amazing kit collection of possibly 5000 model kits, that he has amassed over the last 20 or so years, i have documented his awesome collection over approximately twenty five, 12 -18 minute videos for your viewing pleasure. Many of the kits are rare and from a wide variety of manufacturers, mostly 1/35 AFV but also 1/72 Napoleonic and historic, the collection also features a number of large warships and other interesting items. Unfortunately or fortunately Mikey has decided to semi retire from modelling and go travelling the world, the bulk of the collection, will be sold probably early next year, to realise his new passion as a globetrotter.

12:11 the odd 1/542 scale made me suspicious and sent me to Scalemates and indeed the USS Saratoga was first issued by Revell USA as the USS Forrestal in ... 1956. The Saratoga belonged to the same "Forrestal" class.

Agree the odd and random scales between manufacturers is both puzzleing and annoying.

@@TheNoviceModeller One reason for those odd scales could be the "Matchbox" principle : the model has to fit in the box, not the other way round. Named after the famous miniature car manufacturer.

Hi Andy. I,m not much of a ship modeller but I have done a few in the 1/700's scale. But there kits so I would still like some, if only to ogle over. So we would start with the Tamiya Tirpitz and Yamato. Then I would have to have the Hood , KG5 and PoW. The Sharnhorst and Gneisenau kit. The Potempkin would have to be included as the ship that started the revolution. The mighty Mo would also be in there as would the Illustrious. The Yorktown and the Forrestal as well. The latter suffered a terrible accident on deck which took many lives. H.M.S. Dreadnought has to be in there as the 'Daddy' of all battleships and the Graf Spee too. Also as a fun build the first model that you showed of the French battle group would be nice , maybe the aircraft carrier is the Foch or Clemencu. I think that little lot would do don,t you ? I HAVE THE MISSOURI IN 1/350 SCALE FROM THE 80S.ALSO THE HOOD AND BISMARK FROM LINDBURG. BIG SHIPS ARE NICE TO BUILD BUT HARD TO FIND A PLACE TO DISPLAY THEM.THE REVELL 3 SHIPS BOX IS FROM THE EARLY 60S.THEY ALSO MADE A BOX FLEET OF 12 SHIPS IN 1/1200 SCALE WHICE ATLANTIS REPOPED.THEY ALSO REPOPED A LOT OF OLD SHIP MODELS.TAKE CARE ANDY

Hello there @ekspatriat and thanks for watching. I think there may have been an over enthusiastic collecting situation, but its well in hand now as the collection is being drastically reduced via Ebay to fund world travel adventures, so potentially i suppose you could call it an investment?whether it was a good one or not, i cant really say.
