The last time I saw Mikey's Dad, I was still playing in college and he was widely recruited as a Hooper. The 3rd person in that conversation ended up spending 8 years in the NBA. Interesting, even from these highlights I can see that he has improved quite a bit on his focus and sportsmanship. I find it crazy at how so many of us viewers forget this dude is just a kid with all this talk about future NBA stuff. So, from a straight up bball perspective, has he developed in the arena of foot speed and hustle, especially on defense? I remember noticing that he and his teammates lack the defensive mindset. They like to score, and we see all the scoring training, but can he defend? It is good to see these kids today do some hard training to stay competitive… really great. So let’s see what he shows us in the next couple years of development... he is talented!!

Defense is somewhat overrated if a player’s offensive ability continues to improve and eventually reaches an "elite" level... not saying he shouldn't work on defense but as a coach you gotta know what your getting and take the bad with the good... plus I think being a good defender is mostly just a mental thing

This kid is a stud. He's strong with the basketball and has a jumpshot. That alone will get you buckets, but its the calmness that he approaches the game with that can't be taught. Here's hoping he gets to at least 6'7 or 6'6 for his game to shine.

he looks very physically mature. The kids that are able to dunk like this early on and are this quick and strong are usually done growing, maybe they grow an inch

@@youngcaprio5972 If i am correct this kid is only like a sophomore in high school at about 6'2. He seems more physically imposing than the kids he's playing against because unlike many kids at that age, he seems to have spent some time in the weight room as opposed to the kids who just play basketball. He's still has some growing to do between now and his apex. 4 to 5 inches in between now and then is a stretch but not out of the realm of possibility. Even at 6'4 or 6'5 his game translates well thoughif I am being honest I have reservations about his foot speed and quickness. At 6'3 he'd have to transition to a primary ball handler and from the looks of his game it doesn't seem like he has the foot speed or quickness to play pointguard. I suspect in a year, coaches and trainers will have to have him develop the skills to play more on the ball if that is the case that he only grows another inch through high school but this is the point where genetics play a huge factor. At 6'3 he plays the point and has to transition into a distributor rather than a scorer, at 6'4 or 6'5 he can get his own shot and can play the off guard position if he's not a defensive liability, at 6'6 well........he's a lock for the draft given that his jumpshot is mechanically sound and he has the athleticism to play bigger than he is. At any rate, he's not Julian Newman putting up buckets against 5'8 kids who are happy to be playing varsity, many of the kids he's playing against in this video are his size or bigger and he makes them look small. Thats the sign of next level talent.
