I guess I'm the minority but I hated TJ's tteokbokki, it's the biggest disappointment I've had from them in years. Way too sweet and the spicy is just hot, no flavor (like chemical hot sauce instead of fresh chilis if that makes sense). I added garlic and sesame oil which helped but it was still meh.

I haven’t been able to try tteokbokki, even though I live in Koreatown, because most aren’t vegan friendly. I tried the Trader Joe’s one and it was so good but I wasn’t sure if it was close to authentic in flavor since I never had the fresh one. It’s nice to know they made it with authentic flavors. I loved the spicy sweet flavor. The one thing I noticed is that chewy foods are not something I enjoy. I had to cook the rice cakes longer because I liked them when they were super tender. The softer the rice cake the better for me. It made it easier for the sauce to give the inside flavor after biting it. The inside was bland which makes sense because it’s a thick rice cake. But the sauce was so good.

hey mike, i got a similar instant boba pack recently and it had slightly different instructions that makes heating the packs a lot easier and safer: set the pack upright in a microwave safe cup and tear a small opening for steam to escape, then nuke it for about a minute (the extra time is to account for the mass of the cup) before mixing it as normal! putting it in a cup prevents you from having to handle the hot packet right out of the microwave, and tearing a lil steam vent will prevent the packet from exploding lol. hope this helps you or anyone coming across this that wants to try instant boba!

I wish all hummus used healthier oils like olive or avocado. Most of the TJ hummus uses cheap oils that cause inflammation. I love the red pepper and garlic hummus but again, not a fan of the bad oils. Canola, sunflower, rice bran, are typical in most products there. I give the, credit for expeller pressed oils in some options.

When you visit Austria again, you need to visit the western area like Innsbruck or Bregenz. The cousine there is quite different to Vienna. And since you love korean rice cakes, you need to try "Schupfnudeln" (literal translation would be "push noodles). They have a similar mouth feel and chew like rice cakes, but are made from a similar dough to gnocchi. Normally they are eaten fried in brown butter and served with finely grated parmesan. But sometimes on flea markets, you can find a version, where they are fried with sauerkraut and little bacon cubes, which is my absolute favorite. Also there are dumplings called "Pressknödel" you need to try. There are two versions with different base doughs. One is with potatoes and the other one is really similar to "Semmelknödel". What both have in common, is that they are both made with added cheese and are fried in a pan. They can be served with sauerkraut or as a garnish for a good beef broth
