It's probably not as expensive marketing campaign as you would think. They are getting thousands of customers engaging with their products for at least ten minutes at a time for the cost of a unit. This would be worth millions of dollars with traditional advertising but would cost the company probably cost less than 50 grand.

Hi there, I am happy to hear your review. I subscribed to your channel. Very nicely done. To be honest I own this Huion and am of two minds about this device. First I will mention the good points that I love about this monitor. Firstly the quality and colors of the monitor are wonderful. As mentioned in the video this is a talking point. The colors are generally very close to what you would get printed. Secondly when it is working well, as you can see in this review drawing on this device is easy, to say the least. I have been a Wacom Intuos guy for over 10 years now and was contemplating on getting the Wacom Cintiq series but didn't want to fork out all that money only to go back to the Intuos if I didn't like the feel, Huion works well but is not Wacom so it is missing various features which Wacom users are probably used to having at their finger tips. So when it works it is great, I mean REALLY great :), a dream really, but that is when it works. But alas the bad or ugly side of this device that I have experienced personally.from day 1 is that I have had nothing but issues. I will state right now, their customer service is wonderful to work with, so this is by no means a complaint against them. They were great to work with... Wacom could learn from this side of Huion. GREAT, GREAT customer service. Problems are that I spent the day back and forth from China for support. Having an iMac, I had to go out and buy adapters for this device which are not included and not mentioned anywhere on their site or installation manual. The drivers were and still are an issue for the mac. First installation pens were not recognized by the device drivers, though that was solved quickly when I used drivers downloaded from their website. But every driver update since then they do not recognize the pens at all. Period. So my drivers are still the old ones I downloaded. My next issue is one I am having all the time now and it is making me reconsider this buy. That is when drawing in programs like Illustrator the pens or the pen's sensors get stuck as it was and keep drawing even though the pen is not touching the device. I have to continually wriggle or unplug the USB and HDMI adapters to get it to work again. Many times though, it requires a restart of the machine all together which is a complete waste of productivity which is why I bought this in the first place. Another problem which maybe mac only is that when the computer starts up the huion does not automatically start up causing my iMac to flicker badly. The only fix for this is to continually turn on and off the huion till it is recognized by the Mac (Always gives device not recognized message). After having this for a little over 3 months I am of the mind set that you get what you buy. For people just dabbling with digital art for the first time this tablet is a great entry level device one I see having a lot of potentials, but is still miles behind usability, at least from my experience, from a Wacom device. Wacom Cintiqs are expensive but I now understand that you really do get what you pay for. Sorry for the long post. Great review. I am interested to hear your opinions a few months from now... Hopefully you have a better time than me. If anyone knows any fixes for my issues I would love to hear them.

Got this a couple of weeks ago - super easy to install and use. I've always used my keyboard for shortcuts on PhotoShop, so the lack of hotkeys doesn't bother me one bit. I did keep the screen protector on though; prefer the matte finish and feels better when I draw.

I really don't understand people's hatred towards Huion. I won't say it's perfect, but it's pretty damn good, and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg like Wacom. You really don't need Wacom unless you got the budget for it and you're going to use it professionally. Otherwise, Huion is a go to for me.

Thanks so much for the honest review! Very helpful and awesome! I have a quick question: in photoshop did you experience an issue with press and hold feature on the pen? No matter what settings I get it at I'll be drawing for the most part and every few seconds that circle appears or pauses my pen and opens up the brush options. This doesn't happen when I use FireAlpaca, though. It's just one of those things that can get a bit annoying after a while but isn't exactly terrible?

I currently have a 140mm (5.5") by 102mm (4") pen tablet by Genius, the Easypen i405x. It's like gaming on a cheap mouse: You definitely can do it, but if you once had something better in your hands, then you can feel its cheapness. It has no physical buttons only something called as "modulate area" by the driver, which are software buttons, but enabling them reduces your already limited surface area. Only 1024 levels of pen pressure. However it was the cheapest option back then, and I didn't really know if I wanted to take art seriously, I originally was into music, but the time I could put into it got heavily limited, so I started to pursue art instead, retooled some of my old story ideas for a manga, and hopefully I'll able to work on my stuff soon.

would you recommend this tablet over the wacom cintiq 13hd?
@mikeymegamega7 жыл бұрын
both are good for different approaches - less cable clutter, slightly less adjustable but more rock solid stand, strong pen texture feel. but its still pricier and the smaller screen size can be a bit cramped for something thats going to sit with your computer anyway, so you might end up duplicating to a larger monitor instead of extending your desktop!

So I noticed that you had the tablet set up next to your computer. Do you need a computer to use this tablet or will it work on it's own? If so, is there something else you would recommend using?

I recently got one of these to replace my wacom 13HD that just died on me for no reason. and I honestly wish I could have gotten one of these tablets first. I use this every day for graphic design, sci fi art and pinups. The only download is this has no quick access buttons and no tilt or eraser on the pen, but if you are like me and never used these features. a tablet like this is a much better value than a 13hd and maybe even a 22hd.

i recently got a touch screen. a Ugee. I seriously need to learn about brushes and digital painting, got any good tutorials, or know of some, that talk about using the brushes as well as painting? cuz I get so confused, most tutorials i find tell you how to paint... but they don't explain about how to set up the brushes they use, etc.
@padmad3k637 жыл бұрын
Learn to draw first, learn human anatomy, correct proportions, drawing perspective until you master this start painting. I can recommend you to start out with pencil and paper first when you draw.
@1mattwilson837 жыл бұрын
Lol. well, I thank you for the reply, and advice. but I know how to draw, I'm talking about digital painting. If you watch my channel, I'm 'fairly' okay. Enough to get commissions. but I am trying to increase my skill set around digital painting. WHile i can digitally colour, I get confused on using different brushes, so I was hoping Mikey had some tutorials on colouring, and hat brushes he uses (and settings on those brushes, etc)
@padmad3k637 жыл бұрын
I can relate to that problem, it can be confusing I'm more a Corel Painter guy IMHO Photoshop kinda sucks for digital painting. Corel Painter has tons of brushes which are going to make your painting much easier, it's easier to create textures in Painter compared to Photoshop. In Photoshop its harder to achieve that most likely you'll get that cheap plastic effect. You should check out the channel of Aaron Rutten, he has some free Corel Painter tutorials on his channel.

I have a surface pro 4, wacom Cintiq 13 HD, and a Samsung galaxy tab 9 and I can say there are some differences between the three which is very minor. The cintiq haves a paper like surface and hot keys. The surface pro 4 and Samsung galaxy tab have a slick glass surface which doesn't matter to me just a different feeling when it comes to strokes. But they don't have hot keys you'll have to use the screen to access the tools you want in your programs. Also Samsung galaxy tab is an andriod so you'll only have access to programs that are offered in Play Store like Autodesk, Medibang, Art Flow and etc.....so it depends on you. I do most of my work in my desktop programs so I use my surface pro or wacom tablet and I use my Samsung tablet for sketching especially for when I'm on the go. All three tablets are great depends on what fuctions and programs you like to use in my opinion. And why do I have so many tablets? Because I like wasting money on tablets or any other art materials I can get my hands on. Probably the reason why I'm on this video lol . And I'm not rich either so it says a lot about my priorities ....

Before I get into my actual reply to the video, I have a question for the Draw with Mikey series. Have you ever used Krita? It's a free alternative to Photoshop but I'm having a bit of a hard time navigating it because it's my first no-training-wheels art program. If you haven't used it, would you try it out? And if you have used it, would you please make a video about it? Dang Mikey, the points you made when you were talking about being good at paper art but not ever having a tablet and wanting to get into it.. lol it's like you're spying on me! I bought a Wacom Bamboo tablet in like 2012 for $80, and the price tag really shows. Granted, it was the best I could do at the time because I didn't have a job and it was a birthday gift with a $50 limit (used my allowance to cover the rest). I played around with it in the art program that came with it, which was awful (ArtRage 3. It didn't even have a lasso tool! Even MS Paint has a lasso tool!). It was difficult to make anything decent looking because of the line weights, the complicated layer system (or, rather, lack of), and the screen being so big compared to the small workspace of the tablet, so I gave up. I only recently picked it back up, but its age is showing now more than ever. I've been wracking my brain about what I want to get because I don't want to get another tablet with no screen. I definitely want a touch screen. But getting an iPad Pro would seem like a waste compared to the Surface Pro (basically being a complete computer instead of a big iPhone that can't make phone calls. But Pro Create is a really nice looking art program), but I wouldn't need a Surface Pro for anything other than artwork since I already have a pretty nice PC, so the rest of the features would be going to waste. But this review has me convinced that this is what I want. Right there in the price range I can afford, a touch screen, it's just a tablet for art and it's compatible with all my gear I have right now, so nothing about it would go to waste. Portability isn't my concern right now and I want to get serious about what I do and I think this is the correct next step to take.

Video suggestions: More overwatch characters (including the beloved omnics), noses, mouths, tutorial on your main brushes (with a download link), and shading tips. Any of these would be supremely helpful. Keep up the great work!

just want to ask is how did you fix the split screen problem because when I want to use my monitor for references and draw in the tablet it always ends up that my pen is not syncing to the tablet hope you can see this thanks in advance

I am too used to have a eraser on the back of my pen rather than switching the tool on my buttons that I use for other tools. I mainly work in Manga Studio/Clip Studio on my Intuos 5 Medium Touch, I would almost consider this art LED tablet / Graphics tablet.

Eraser on the back is a good way to go as sometimes you might press the button in error and suddenly 'unpaint' for a sec (plus id like to free up the button) - however Ive started to find that if I am cleaning up some art with the eraser tool then i need it to be as fina and accurate as any other brush and set it to the pen nib anyway. ..so rear eraser at the sketching phase but then a foot-pedal that swithes pen functinos halways through a piece? - if that dosent exist yet I'm copyrighting digital artist foot-pedals!

hahaha, you will be the first, however, I am too used to having an eraser it's something I will require because it's also something I use for removing shade lightly before adding in lighting or at least it's how I used to do it, still learning color theory. If Huion makes one with an eraser function on the back of the pen they will get my attention very quickly for a on screen art tablet.
