This is most extraordinary, given Mikkel’s very young age. The fundamentals of the techniques are already there. What impresses me most is Mikkel’s sense of melodic lines and his precocious understanding of the emotions behind the pieces. The expressions of senses of tragedy, yearning, fury, sadness, etc. are way beyond his age. These traits unmistakably show Mikkel’s artistic temperament. As Milkel is still a young child, every effort should be made to let him explore his own direction and leave all his possibilities open. Asian culture is generally competitive with a focus on cramming, which might potentially foreclose a talent of this caliber. Care must be taken not to let vanity get in the way of his growth. Nothing destroys a young talent like the parading of a child wonder. It would be ideal to encourage Mikkel to improvise and compose. The highest goal in music is not merely to become a virtuoso performer, but to play and compose like the great old masters like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, etc. All the best wishes.

Wow, your such a talented kid. The only prelude I can play is (30:04) Prelude No.20 Opus 28. You are so stunning. I read your about me section, and you have an extraordinary talent. Use it for good, which what you are doing now. Very good job on every prelude. Having to play it all of those pieces one after another can hurt your hands, but you persevere. Well, now I know that I’m not the only one who uses the hands crossing trick on the final run of the d-minor. But I’ve never seen the final d isolated and pounded like that before. How do you push down the c and e like that so quickly without sounding them? Clever. Also the unique way you played the g-major hands crossed, astounding accuracy. And your accentuation of the inner notes of all, particularly on the c-minor, very refreshing. But my favorite was your a-minor, which you played with great beauty. I would like to hear you play the posthumous c#-minor prelude also. Bravo! Hard work. But got a little messy on the last few preludes; most pianists are a little worn out by that time.

Very well-trained and courageous to try and make breakthroughs, but still hope that you can take on bigger challenges with the growth of body, fingers, mind, etc. Gradual learning is healthier and more steady,all things need time, and going a long way is the most important thing for playing the piano ! It's a shame, really. COLOSSAL talent in this 9-year old, and it's amazing to me he was able to do as much with these as he has done. But apparently he is lacking the external influences that should have said -- "the complete 24 in a recital?? how about we just concentrate on a few of them for now." Let's face it, some of these just clearly aren't ready for prime-time. I've no idea if this recital is entirely of his own drive and desire, or just due to a teacher or parent saying "this will impress!" and urging him on. Either way...if the former, he should have been steered away from the idea, and if the latter, well...shame on the person or people who deserve it. But, Mikkel, wow. I wish you a very long and happy career doing this if it's what you want to do, and definitely look forward to hearing you in the future.

@@MikkelMyerLee I don’t mean this as an insult, (I presume this is the parent posting this) but these pieces are so much more than the notes on the page - they are probably the hardest thing Chopin ever wrote and require such emotional maturity and a control of the piano that only comes after decades of life and of playing. Most junior conservatory students (18-21 year olds) would be laughed out of the room by their professor if they suggested they wanted to perform the whole cycle. Please stick with pieces like bach inventions, maybe some preludes and fugues, early mozart and beethoven or haydn, or if Chopin, the early nocturnes or waltzes. He will really be better off for it than jumping in at the Mount Everest of the repertoire. I know you didn’t ask for my opinion but there it is.
