She once went to a "non ballet" dance competition that I was at called Spotlight. Not only did she come in and beat all us, but she blew us all away with her fabulous technique. She has totally inspired me to stop playing around with this competitive dance stuff and join a real ballet school. This was an amazing dance.

whoa I just realized she takes classes @ my dance studio in Palo Alto. I took one ballet class and she was in it! I didn't know who she was @ the time but I recognized her as the best dancer in the class so was following her... even though you're not supposed to be following someone else... lol... I recently watched first position and I didn't know who she was. Then, the dance director emailed everyone today telling of her short performance on this Monday @ the studio!

her execution of this at thirteen is incredible, and it is better than seeing another don quixote or esmerelda variation. it is a risk performing a more "mature" variation at a competition, but if done well, like miko did, then it is for sure to place high on the list.

well,.. I figure if you're going to pick a very notable, and famously difficult variation as your classical portion to an international dance competition, than I'ma hold you to a slightly higher standard. Also, seeing as how good her technique is and how she carries herself during interviews(I'm complimenting her btw) than I don't think we should do her the injustice of lowering our standards based on her age.

@uttripudio I don't think she's too thin. You have to take into consideration the amount of training she goes through. You can't become this good with little practice. Ballet is extremely hard work. Also, she's only 13. She may also get her thinness from her family and such. But she's not only thin, she's toned and has muscle. I don't think that her weight was a factor in falling out of her turns. She has amazing balance for her age, and for the difficulty of those turns.

I feel like the beginning was too rushed. Like it was just an attempt to do as many turns as possible instead of being clean and going well with the rest of the choreography. But overall Miko is amazing and I can't wait to see more from her. She's crazy good for her age.

This is the music most commonly used (in my experience over many years) for Odile's variation. I have seen at least one performance using a different piece of Tchaikovsky for it, but I think it's very rare. So, it probably is, indeed, the music Alonso would have used.

It's kind of the point of the black swan variation to have really harsh, sharp extensions and almost stiff-looking lines. It's supposed to be a contrast to the soft, elegant white swan.
