Now, that's what I call a great product. Literally checks all the boxes from what I expect from a proper home router. Best of luck to Mikrotik. Now all that remains for them is to figure out the supply chain issues. Because literally, at the moment, everything is out of stock. I hope they have solid plan in place to figure out the issue.
@mikegleasonjr

Before the supply chain issue is the software issue.. Mikrotik always had good hardware, but poor software around wifi. All my Mikrotik wifi dumb access points are running OpenWRT because they have better chipset support than Mikrotik themselves. Fast roaming and better performance.

Right, apart from one important checkbox... where is the SFP port?! We used this all the time on the original hAP ac, now it seems to be missing in all recent models, which makes them far less attractive than they could be!

@@fnorro I believe, SFP port is used by tiny niche among the home users, so MikroTik has decided to axe the port from the future releases as a cost saving measures. Who knows the exact reason besides MikroTik.

I got hold of an ax3 from getic a few days ago.. as my first Mikrotik it took a day to figure out load balancing and bonding but once I got that going, DL and UL throughput at least doubled.. this thing rocks! Pros: works as advertised and affordable. Cons: You need to have some technical background to make this thing work. May I suggest to Mikrotik to include a 'Quick Setup' for dual WAN (default is only 1) as many people now have 2 links due to WFH.

@SaifBinAdhed
@SaifBinAdhed Ай бұрын
@@lukasbruderlin2723 standard on TpLink and Linksys? I think you dont need SFP+ on the ax3, the only use I see for SFP(+) is if you really need fiber, which in 90% of the cases in home use is not useful, but then again, home users who are going to use SFP, will not use this ax3 for routing & switching at the same time. I use rb5009 for SFP+ and then connect anything else I need behind it, to have 10gbps from my server to my living room, 10gbps sfp didn't work for me and I wasn't comforatble with a module running at 80c in my rack. I don't know, this is my take on it, I rather pay less for the ax3 without sfp which I might never use, than pay more for it.

Aahhh, after having investigated the Qualcomm IPQ-6010 SOC, I can see that this SOC provides 4xA53cores, USB 3.0, and only support for 1x2.5GbE + 4x1GbE. So Qualcomm is the cause of this limit. I'd still love to see a CRS3XX with 4x SFP+ and 24x2.5GbE (or at least 8x2.5GbE + 16x1GbE).

I just saw it on the products page, it's pretty good, and I might pick up one. With that being said I would be willing to pay a little more for a model with 160MHz channel support, and potentially a second 2.5Gbe port (though one is already pretty good). But I do have a few questions. (Extra Background info): I deploy equipment in other people's homes as a side job, mainly SOHO clients. Most of the networks I work on have mainly gigabit (usually managed) switches/infrastructure. 1. Is there a designated WAN port like most commodity home routers? or can it be set to any one of the available ethernet ports in routerOS? I would hate to be required to use the 2.5Gb port for internet (especially when all of my clients have gigabit or slower internet) instead of a 2.5Gb capable NAS/PC/Switch. 2. Does it support LACP or Static LAG? (a must for many clients) 3. How can I obtain extra antennas? I've run into a few pet-related incidents where the adorable creature has damaged vital networking equipment?
@Seph313

RouterOS can do basically everything you have ever seen on any router/switch, there is no requirement to use specific port, unless you need POE for example. But keep in mind RouterOS v7 is still basically a beta, some things might not work as intended.

Sorry to nitpick but I feel "wave 2" is not something that needs to be or actually should even be mentioned alongside 802.11ax. Wave 2 is referring to 802.11ac Wave 2, because there was a Wave 1 of AC. Wave 2 added extra features to AC wifi. However, AX at present is still wave 1, and includes those AC wave 2 features as part of the base standard. If anything AX wave 2 could refer to the 6E with the 6GHz band enabled, which this product does not offer. I hope people don't misunderstand that Mikrotik has a 802.11ax wifi product that implemented some fictional AX wave 2 while the rest of the industry does not. Irregardless of that 😊 love this presentation and the presenter.

What is the difference between powering a WiFi router with 12V vs 24V? It is noted, that the router has DC range 12-24V, but why?
@Wrenchmonkey1
@Wrenchmonkey1 2 жыл бұрын
There are a million reasons, but I can give you a handful. Higher voltage for same wattage means lower amperage draw. In most real-world applications, the difference is probably negligible, but having an acceptable voltage range means more options for power. It also gives you a buffer in case a power supply has ripples or voltage spikes. Especially if you're powering it off-grid, or in mobile or edge-networking scenarios. Or, for something like, in a van, RV, or caravan. For example, I have an hAp AC2 in my toy hauler which runs directly off of the battery bank, and which can be connected to the internet via a 5G USB modem, or by plugging in a 5G phone in tethering mode; and which will soon be getting Starlink internet services. The fact that I can power it directly off the system's solar/battery bank, without any inverters, or DC-DC converters is nice. And I know that my voltages are going to fall well within the nominal 'safe' range for use of this device, even as the battery bank cycles through its charge state as solar power, generators, or 'shore power' charge it, and as it discharges through use overnight, on cloudy days, etc. It's also useful to have a range of acceptable PoE input voltage, since not all PoE switches or power inserters output the same voltage. Hope this is useful.

OK, but what's the realistic point of a single 2.5Gb eth port? I mean, I guess that's a benefit if you're running a router on a stick config up to another larger 2.5gb switch, or something, but the use case seems highly limited. Without at least two ports being 2.5GB capable, this product seems like a miss to me.

That seems exactly the opposite of the typical use case for 2.5gb or 10gb. Typically, the WAN connection is going to not be more than 1Gb. So the WAN would be left at 1Gb, and LAN traffic would be put on the faster connection, for faster access to local network resources (ie, servers, NAS, or client-to-client traffic. With only one 2.5GB port, that's not possible. And for the cases where people DO have 2.5Gb WAN connections, why would you want to limit all clients to a maximum throughput of 1GB? If you have 2.5GB WAN, it would be silly to only have 1GB LAN. Just my thoughts. Maybe others have a different take.

I guess this depends on the country you are in. Many countries now provide 2.5G uplink from ISP, but most homes only have 1Gbit devices, so this is a great way to provide more bandwidth to your LAN users.

@@mikrotik Interesting. Is there not a cost increase to get 2.5gb service? Also, is it delivered over fiber or copper?

Supports 160mhz channels? Supports site2site ipsec? How can I use 2Gbps internet connection when it does have single 2.5Gbps port?

Yes / Yes / If you have several gigabit devices connected, your 2.5G will be split among them anyway.
