Hi Mike,You really do it very nicely. I also restore such old HAM radios. Now I'm taking a break and watch you at work ;-) I'm looking forward to the next episode.73's DF7PI

You know that only someone who had that power supply in front of them AND was warned would EVER have known about that cap and screw interference! LOL GOOD for you!

Nice video. Bought the C Line a few years ago and still working. I have a couple of Heathkit and Swan supplies that may need refurbishing. Nice to see the big electrolytics are replaceable at a reasonable price. Nice videos Mike.

You can spend what you want to with caps. The rebuilds are wonderful from Hayseed Hamfest. And some folks stuff their own replacements!

Not having read any other comments, I will say that I saw a lot of disc ceramic caps scattered about the power supply. What were they? If they should have been safety caps, they obviously were not the correct ones to use. I didn't see any disc cap values on the schematic. (??)

The power line and caps. A great subject. Polarized Safety Cords. Cheater Cords. Safety Caps. Do they have Cheater Caps?
@BruceNitroxpro4 жыл бұрын
@@MIKROWAVE1 , Well, I thought YOU might know about cheater caps, if anyone might know about them YOU would! The X-1, Y-2 caps would do in a pinch.

Since there looks like there is room under the chassis, I'd have cut a suitable hole in the side and installed a three prong power cord socket with a noise filter into the chassis and then plugged the power cord in rather than wiring it directly.
@MIKROWAVE14 жыл бұрын
Nice Idea. But that would be an interesting hole to cut! Bring rat tail file please.

@@MIKROWAVE1 I have an old nibbling tool from the 60's that could roughly cut it out. I'd first start with a few large drill bits (3/8-1/2"), then the nibbling tool, and finish off with a file. Another idea would be a Dremel cut-off wheel.
