If this were a real situation, their recorded admission that they tried to swindle her out of her house is enough to put them in jail. Other than that, she did the best possible thing she could. Lawyer or not, OP's husband and OP's MIL would not be able to legally take OP's house. She would need to sign it over to them. So apparently they planned to get her drunk and sign away the house by claiming she was signing to own the cottage. Excellent - a prenup. What were the papers she signed though?

They were fake documents made by her dad's lawyer. I can't remember what they said but it wasn't good. But close enough to get op to have a chance to win and keep her home. My question is why would a lawyer risk his law license and submit fake documents to the courts?

This story doesn't make sense. If she has a prenup, why did she do that fake document? And would a legitimate lawyer actually make a fake document to replace an original? Wouldn't that jeopardise his law license? Not that I know much about that field.

Because she stated she didn't quite read them, considering she asked him to figure out what they were. The fakes were likely an insurance, since if the real ones just went missing, they'd know they'd been found out. No idea on the fake doc thing though. Though if the papers were obviously fake, they likely couldn't be traced back to him nor would they be legally binding, thus not illegal? Don't quote me on that, lol.
