Hi, Milana! I am a curly girl! My hair has a much tighter curl pattern, but here are a few tips I’ve learned along my curly hair journey! 1. I know I can’t use that much water in my hair, but I also know that wavy hair can usually withstand more water. My hair likes to be wet, but not dripping when I style it. It took me a couple years to figure out how much water my hair likes! That is something every wavy/curly/coily has to figure out about their hair! 2. You also need MUCH more product (and definitely a curl cream to help clump the waves together). 3. The towel you used is definitely not good if you want to help define your waves-a microfiber towel can still cause frizz because it still has fibers that cling to your hair. You would have been much better off using a cotton t-shirt to plop. 4. Micro-plopping is to help get the excess water out of your hair to help cut down on diffusing time (it can also take out some product). 5. “Pixie diffusing” (turning the dryer on after you cup the hair into the diffuser bowl) is best. It keeps the hair from blowing all over the place, which is most-likely the reason your waves weren’t as defined. 6. Since it only took you about 8 minutes to diffuse, that probably means either you took too much water out of your hair when plopping or the dryer was too hot for your hair (again, causing frizz). I think your hair has great potential for beautiful waves! However, you’re hair is beautiful any way you style it! I never straighten or curl my hair with heat tools, but I watch your videos because I love watching you do it! I find it so intriguing to watch others style their hair with heat tools even though I don’t! You may not ever try styling curly/wavy again, but I hope this helps if you, or someone else, decides to! ❤️

So it looked like you used a gel instead of a curl cream and i usually use less water in the bowl method, like an inch or so. Pulse your hair when you scrunch and use a BUNCH more mousse for hold. you don't have nearly enough mousse. I usually do that after microplopping. You'll want a crunch like the 90s and you'll scrunch that out. And like other people have said, hover diffuse to get a cast first. I follow the curly girl method (most of the time) and you're right, it can totally be time consuming, but you had a lot of great waves there, I just think you didn't have enough hold product! But honestly, you're hair is always beautiful! You do you!!

her hair is to damaged, it needs large proteins in a mask to begin with, any thick cream will weigh her waves down, all she needs is a lightweight gel and a mousse and a diffuser, i'm not a certified hair dresser (but did went to hair dresser school a long timea ago) but i do know, as a curly girl myself, how important the weight of product can be, she also needs to clarify her hair on a regular basis with sulfates, i do it every week, works fine for me, but as a hair dresser you should be able to tell she has very thin hair, and bleached, and any heavy curl creams will weigh her waves down
@lizzyk666 Жыл бұрын
@@Daisyke984 I as well have fine curly/wavy hair. Curls need moisture to bounce. As long as you aren’t using too much product a curl cream is a better product. For mousse or gel they can have a lot of drying ingredients in them including alcohol. They do work just as well. Also heavy protein use can cause more damage if you are not careful. In her case her hair is actually pretty healthy looking even with bleach.
@Daisyke984 Жыл бұрын
@@lizzyk666 it's all about balance, i always use gel and mousse and use small proteins and a spray leave in, and can go for 7-8-9 days without washing (only 1 wet refresh) as long as something works for you it's fine right? ☺

Your hair is bleached so the top layer is the most damaged, plus you used a gel, not a cream. The cream would have gave the top layers more moisture and the gel would have held it in place better. It still is time consuming at first but gets better the more you do it. I get it, it's just easier to use the heat tools:) You still have pretty waves and maybe try upright styling without the bowl. ❤

I've been doing this for years and my hair is down to my butt and it's noice and curly. "Hover" & "Pixie" diffusing is best. Your waves would have been much more defined. As for overall method, it all depends on the curl pattern, hair density & thickness, and porosity. I tried several methods until I landed on the bowl method. For me, keeping my hair soaking wet when adding gel (or mousse) makes the difference. Also, brushing or combing to style when wet wrecks my curls.

To the peanut gallery: Milabu did nothing wrong here. All of these steps are used by curly/wavy girls. Most go through a lot of trial and error with different products and steps to find what works best, and it often takes well over a year of doing this before curly/wavy hair that's been stressed from straightening and styling to come back to life and look good. It takes a lot of patience, but can really pay off. This was just Milabu making one attempt as an experiment.

After shampooing and conditioning in the shower, I towel dry my hair(scrunch) until damp, put on cream, then the styling gel. I scrunch and let dry, then flip my head over, run my fingers through my hair and it is great waves.The next days after shampooing, I just spray my hair until I hear a squish sound when I scrunch, let dry and it is great. I never use a diffuser--makes my hair frizzy.

I mean, this was my hairstyle every day at college back in the day (circa 2010) lol the best combination (from someone who definitely knows lol) is garnier curl construct mousse and Aussie sprunch spray. With wet, squeezed out hair, scrunch up with mousse in sections, diffuse all over in sections, then do the spray. Do the diffuser in sections (bent over scrunching up), but do NOT dry all the way… only 30% dry and let air dry the rest of the way.

The fact we see good defined waves while your hair is wet I think shows hope. Your soft waves/curls I think are like mine that without creating a cast with a light gell (curl talk by not your mothers is nice) you loose all definition when diffusing and just looks a bit messy or stretched out. Try raking a casting gel through soaking wet hair (or using "praying hands") then letting air dry or gently diffuse on low hear/low air. You want it to dry in the cast so after it's fully dry you scrunch the cast out with your hands. If you're too aggressive with your diffusing you won't get the cast effect and benefits. (I believe the mousse you used is waaayy too light to provide any good hold) 😊

I have 2a hair that is shoulder length. I started doing the curly girl method about 2 months ago. I was using hot tools a lot and wanted to stop. I wash, condition. with squishing , rinse and the I use Twisted Sista (about 2t )curling gel on very wet hair in the shower. I take my time and do a lot of squishing then squish with a microfiber towel and plop and leave up 10 minutes. I use a root booster very carefully so I don’t disturb the curl pattern. Sometimes I let it air dry for 10-15 minutes and then use the dryer with diffuser. First I turn over and hold the dryer away and partially dry. Then I take sections and put them carefully on the diffuser and put the diffuser against my head for 15 seconds then do a cool shot. Sounds like a lot of trouble but it gets me 3-4 days of curly hair with little or no touch up(I use a curl activator spray where needed) I sleep on a Satin pillowcase.

You’d have better results if you simplified it a bit. I think you can get there: A. Don’t brush or comb your hair when you want to wear it curly. At the end, your hair looks brushed because it was brushed. Brushing erases the curl pattern, especially in finer textured hair, so all you should be doing is dislodging tangles with fingers. Don’t comb out in shower, just let the waves do what they want. Rinse in shower and just shake it out a bit. That’s all. Your hair needs more moisture so use more moisturizing conditioner and a leave-in conditioner and use a leave-in, followed by stronger hold gels. B. Apply a leave-in conditioner while hair is still soaking wet, then curl jelly, re-wet (bowl or spray bottle) and squeeze, then apply small blob of strong hold gel like LA Looks or ECO olive oil gel, re-wet, squeeze, air dry if you can. Avoid heat styling. When dry, scrunch out the stiff gel “cast” by dabbing a drop of oil in your hands, rub them together, then scrunch the curls to soften the cast. Do not brush! Fluff up hair by “picking” with a wide tooth comb or fingers but don’t run comb all the way through. This is actually easier than the method you demonstrated in your video. Creams and creamy heavy mousse might be too heavy for your hair texture. Use less product than you did in the video. Use a small nickel-sized dollop but thin it out with water in your hands to spread it evenly if it’s sticky. If you need more, do the same with a water-thinned pea sized dollop, once or twice if needed. Don’t forget to get the top and sides of your head with curl product. You really only got the lengths of your hair with the mousse which was probably too heavy or to heavily applied for your hair type. All this will help to cultivate or encourage more curl pattern retention and your hair will be better “trained” as you said, to automatically default to this state. Try those tips and it will work better to establish and retain those waves! You can do it and eventually you’ll have it down so you can wash and go!

Next time wait til your hair dries a bit more then apply hair mousse your hair will curl beautifully , n go slow when using diffuser n on high heat, get roots first. You can always add a mist of water if bottom parts of hair get frizzy to soon. Try mixing curl styling cream and water in spray bottle to add moisture where needed until roots are scrunched first while hair drying with diffuser.

Hi! Been doing this for the past 4yrs and you don’t get good results overnight. Your hair will go thru a transition esp if you color or use tools with heat everytime. I feel you are wavy because there is still a pattern (bcoz if you are really straight, this method will not give you any curl pattern even if you use styling products) but as I said, it would take time to see the results. And yes curly routines takes time but only at first. As time goes by, your routine gets easier and shorter 😊 goodluck and I hope you may want to try this a little but longer like a month or so because the important thing about this method is that there are ingredients in hair products that we avoid and it helps the environment esp the hair. ❤

I have wavy hair with some curls, I also have bleached highlights now, I know you are getting excellent information from everyone, but I just wanted to let you know how I achieve my curls, color treated hair needs a leave in conditioner, if your is thin or course, you need to match your conditioner to it( thick for course and light for thin), then use your tangle teaser, afterwards rinse out your tangle teaser, apply a curl cream( you used a gel in this video), match your curl cream to your hair type, comb it through your hair, then apply the gel. , you can do the bowl method then if u want or go straight to plopping, after 10 minutes take your hair out and then apply mousse and scrunch and diffuse, when you are done you can use a hair oil to break the cast, enjoy your beautiful waves! It will take practice and time for your hair to learn it’s curl pattern, u can do it!!

1. Try a leave in conditioner or light weight curl cream (not gel) for the bowl method . 2. Then add a gel with hold for the next step. That mousse you chose has barely any hold, you could try a stronger hold mousse if you like but I have a hunch the gel you have would work just fine. 3. Watch tshirt plopping videos bc the way you plopped your hair caused you to lose some definition. 4. Watch diffusing videos bc I have a hunch after seeing your results you moved your hair too much while diffusing. The issues you had were: 1. Not starting with moisture. 2. Not using a product with hold after moisture 3. Plopping method 4. Diffusing method. Great first try but you need a second go!

Loosen top/part with fingers for volume. Flip head to scrunch dry hair with T-shirt (periodically throughout the day). It’s a lot of work for someone who can’t be bothered. I recommend you do it different. First- don’t use a bowl full of water. Only gave maybe one or 2 handfuls of water in the bottom. Also you want your hair dripping soaking wet. Add in the curl cream (or leave in condish but not both- pick one) and squish it in over the bowl. Brush it through. Then more squishing. Whatever water fall into the bowl they only have a few ounces of water in it to begin with is what you dunk your locks into. You don’t have to go side to side if you manage to dunk head all the way to the root or scalp touching the bowl. The goal is to get good CLUMPS! The bowl helps clumps and helps distribute products so it doesn’t get sticky or overly weighed down. After bowling hair post curl cream squishing you then squish again but don’t try and squish all the water out. You’re really pulsing more then actually squishing out water. Just to encourage the clumps to wave. NOW you apply either mousse or gel (I prefer mousse- squish- bowl- pulse- then gel and repeat steps) to hair like you did in the video. Glaze it on then pulse it in. Once coasted then squish it in more and all that water that comes off the hair should be caught in that bowl every time. Dunk head to help diatribe the products and pulse again. If hair needs more gel- add more as needed. If you have loads of water in the bowl you’ll like need more gel. If you have just a couple ounces and it’s milky white from products then your likely good to go. - now you can either wet plop followed by micro plop or you can just micro plop. Lastly you diffuse but google pixie diffusing. Goal is to NOT BREAK THE CURL CLUMPS you just worked so hard for! Diffuse upsideown even for more volume. Put some hair in diffuser. Take it to the roots. Then turn it on and wait 20-30 seconds. Turn off the dryer before removing it. Repeat til head is dry. If you try it that way I 💯 guarantee you will get very different results.

It gave you great volume

Like others have said, you would have definitely gotten better results with a curl cream. You should also air dry; no diffuser. Keeping yours hands out of it helps as well. Every time you put your hands in it, it breaks up your curl pattern.

Skip the plopping part, It May cause friz and try not touch the air so Mich when diffusione. Your wavy pattern Is nice 😉

I'm not personally a fan of the bowl method as I think it's wasteful, just rinses out your product and uses so much time and energy, and i don't see how anyone gets good results with it. Idk if anyone has recommended her yet, but ManesByMell is my preferred influencer for curly content. She's a pro, so she knows what she's talking about and is really good at explaining what works and why. I get great results with her ribbon Curl (brush Curl, some may call it? Tangle teezer works great for it!) and hover diffuse methods, but I have more 3b-ish curls. She recently did a wavy video, and has a few with her wavy cousins, though, so hopefully some tips there for you! She's done lots of collabs with other influencers, so maybe you could even reach out!

I would suggest trying again. I bet you can get better results! Use more curl cream and make sure to get the back of your scalp wet. Then add gel. Hover diffuse and then pixie diffuse. When you pixie diffuse, turn the dryer on and off only when you already have your hair in the diffuser. Good luck!

I have thick fine curly hair , with some volume. I always try to make my hair less frizzy and more defined ( I don't like too much volume), so a good product will help, but the most important thing for defined curls is not to use too much heat just a few seconds or 2-4 minutes that's it and never ever brush your hair after you apply the products of you want to keep curl definition. By the way your hair results looks like mine after a beach day... my hair dresser actuallly calls me Zimba 🦁😅

Wow! That seems kinda difficult and I have loose kinky curly hair. I think I am confused, but this is super entertaining ❤

I think you should let it air dry. Blow drying always makes my curls less defined than letting them air dry. I get the best curls when i sleep with damp hair.

Brad Mondo just posted today about this: maybe not diffuse upward? or the Product? :)

yeah, I think it's a combination of everything: hair type, hair products and diffusing the hair. Have to find the perfect combination of everything

Every time I try any variation of the method my hair always ends up oily, crunchy and tangled. It’s frustrating because I always get ringlets in my baby hairs in humidity. I think the weight of the length kills any chance for the fine texture to keep any decent looking wave.

I used my curly method in the shower. I didn't use the bowl because most products will go away in the bowl. Everybody is different! 🙂

I'm no expert but a few things: your hair looks a bit damaged and I bet if you didn't use heat on it for a while more curl pattern would emerge. Also, I rarely use a diffuser. As someone who is a wavy/curly similar to you I get the most curl from a prolonged plop and air dry. It looks crunchy for a while but once it dries completely I can carefully uncrunch and it looks good. It is time consuming. But would be fun for a night out when you have time during the day to let it air dry. Also I don't think that's a curl cream but more like a gel. You need a cream that moisturizes and a bit of gel after to lock in the curl clumps.

I have similar 2b/2c/3a waves. You have fine hair as I do, but I have tons of it. The key with fine hair is not over conditioning with extra moisture you don't want left on the hair to weigh it down. I get the best results when I shampoo twice and regular condition, rinsing well. I squish to condish my conditioner into my hair and let it rest while I finish my shower. Then rinse very well not ringing out the water so curl clumps form. I apply my gel (that jelly you used) and plop it into a super microfiber towel, the Perfect Hair Care Towel. After 10-15 minutes, I hover diffuse (hover around the head not touching it) on high heat/speed to set the gel before I turn the heat to medium and speed to low/medium and use the diffuser in a traditional way making sure to turn the speed down because that will cause your clumps to separate and fly away. (You also don't need to toss your hair, but roll your head to gently move the hair. Both of the vloggers below demonstrate this.) That is the fine hair causing that. You tried the Sophie Marie bowl method, which works but your product application was wrong for your hair type and follow her method with product order as well. Swavy Curl Courtney has excellent videos for your hair type. You also need to moisturize your hair. It needs the healthy moisture to allow your natural texture to heal from all the straightening and highlighting you do to it every day. Bleaching the hair kills it, especially when you are recovering postpartum hormone/hair/skin changes. We all know you take care of your hair, but going natural will require time, moisture, work and more time. It is easier to damage your hair than heal it.

Pretty sure the curl jelly is just a styling gel so you probably needed an actual cream 🤓

The bowl method is only one part of the CGM. You need to use a curly friendly shampoo and conditioner before you add your styling products.

It requires a massive amount of product. I’ve had curly hair since birth, lol, and I hate the curly girl method, and this is the worst method I’ve seen for excessive water. It “works” but it takes so much product because the water dilutes it so much it’s like there’s nothing there. Personally I just scrunch product into my damp hair a little while after washing, I just mix a curl cream and gel and then scrunch, and diffuse if I feel like it or air dry. I don’t get quite as much definition as people who are strict with the method but I can’t afford to buy that much product, plus I’m lazy. You needed a ton more product.
