From what Milad said, I think that the guy who went behind actually wanted the sub, but he didn’t know English so the other guy who knows English ordered it for him. And neither of the two knew what a melt would actually look like, so they were confused when it came out of the toaster looking charred. It honestly depends on whether or not it's an independently owned or corporate owned location, how stingy the owners are, customer traffic, overhead, etc. There's only two subways in my town one is independently owned and the owner is kinda greedy, not fond of adding toppings if they're not in the product image, making their workers haul ass and throw subs together poorly, things like that etc. Been there once in the two years I've lived here never been back due to poor service and quality, usually don't see any customers there most of the time either. The corporate owned subway at Walmart on the other hand goes above and beyond to ensure repeat customers, they hook up the toppings and sauces, they'll gladly make off menu/seasonal subs any time of year, even if you get a ton of toppings they'll take the time to assemble it as neat as possible and not just throw it together. This location is on the opposite side of town from me and as rarely as I do get subway I make it a point to go there instead of the one thats less than a quarter mile from my house.

The notion of someone ordering food when they don’t know what it is, then refusing it, is annoying and rude. I have done similar, but paid for and thanked them, tipping the server.
