On my early visits to Milan, in July 1997 and July 1998, I did not particularly like riding the M1 because its air brake compressor would go on after leaving a station and I had the fear that the train would break down between stops. Also the M1 stations were "epic creepy" at the time, the M2 stations to a lesser extent. Since my latest visit in September 2011 with the new rolling stock, I feel better riding the M1.
