Most people that barely know enough about a trade, are the ones most eager to post non-stop videos on KZbin. The experts have better things to do than to divulge trade secrets, like make money. You on the other hand are the real deal. I’ve watched your videos, and you know exactly what you are talking about. Just good to see. Thanks for posting.

Guys like Mark are a rare find! I wish his shop wasn't 2500 miles away. I'm a drag guy who occasionally drives on the street, and yes I still street race. All the guy's doing it I'm my area are in their mid to late 70's! One retired, two died, the other had two heart attacks and only works for a couple buddies, the third guy takes a year (if he's even still doing it). None of them ever had a dyno either. Not that that makes them any less capable. Its getting to be the biggest detriment to the future of the hobby. I went to school for this and worked for a couple shops including Rex Hutchison Race Engines (when I lived in CA) They didn't pay shit, so I wound up quitting to work at a Glass Company. I should have rode it out and started my own shop like I always dreamed of. Its too late in the game to start now. I'd never be able to retire and wind up working until I died like the guys here. Dying breed. No pun intended.

@@VORTECPRO I notice it every time I drive my 68 Vette that has one of your 467's set up like this one in it (609/598). I have not had it on the track, but it is an awesome Dr Jekyll/Mr. Hyde motor. It idles like a pussycat at the stop lights, but will turn as angry as you want it to when the light turns green. Absolutely everything I had hoped for. Kelly in SW Florida.

Very well done, Mark...I like how you describe what it takes for your engines and the small details. I also like how you are really into building and refining the old 454cid+ BBC. Your descriptions have answered a ton of questions that I have wanted to know since I began to read the book called, "How To Hot Rod The Big Block Chevy" since I began to read it in the early 1980's. You are a great help---please keep the detailed videos coming, thank you, sir!

I can attest to this motor and marks knowledge. I had this motor with a slightly smaller carb and unported heads. It was in a 2nd gen Camaro with a stick. On the dyno it made 425 rwhp and 490 rwtq. Basically with ported heads it would have made around what mark showed in this video (500+ rwhp with a stick). Awesome motor.

GOOD #'s there, lots of engine builders dont get that with AL heads, etc. That would be nice in a 1st Gen Camaro with 410/456 gears and a 4 speed, true old school that would tear up the road

SUPERB street BBC for all those Chevelles, Camaros, Impalas, and C series trucks out there! Plus, the idle is more "classic muscle" than today's popular 'thumpers' that can't barely run 12's. This should easily turn 12's in any street chassis and much better in a drag prepped one!.... and sound like its straight out of the late 1960's showroom. MINT! Excellent work Mark!

Should turn easy 11s, 600 hp and tq. Right setup will go 10s for sure.

I guess I must say I’m very impressed with the build and video! Never knew a stock gm crank and rods would hold 6300 rpm, or was the crank forged? Just curious, as I have a 77 bbc 2-bolt main short block sitting under my work bench. Contemplating whether to go 467 or 496 stroker with it. Will go in my 71’ Chevelle, 400 turbo trans street car, but I want to make jaws drop when necessary lol. Thanks for your hard work and postings!
