How we in Australia stand a chance at competing at innovation when 95% of the country is bogged down paying excess rent or mortgage. a standard home in a normal neighbourhood is $1.5 million AUD! From what i've studied the equivalent home and neighbourhood in America is $250 000 USD!

Not true a $250k home in alot of areas is going to be a condo - you have to bump that up to half a million to get a home and in most cases nowadays in a decent place its going to be closer to $750k+. If you want a home for $250k to go way out where there is no services - well water, probably no internet services etc. It's no longer cheap/affordable here.
