Thanks for the memories. I went to school (he drives thru it on 15th St around 22+ minute mark) in Troy 40+ years ago and unfortunately the only change seems to be it's 40+ years older. This would be a somewhat typical greyish winter day except it's not snowing.

There's actually been a lot of changes - Troy is developing their waterfront a LOT. It keeps getting nicer and nicer. Winter definitely adds some grayness tho lol

I stumbled on this wonderful video while I am planning my annual trip from near Boston, to Troy to spend Thanksgiving with my family. Anyhow, starting about 5 seconds after the video starts, it traces exactly the end of my route once I've entered Troy, and almost to the end. Hey, friend, next time turn right on Ferry Street 🙂

The architecture in Troy is low key beautiful. They just don't make townhomes like that anymore. Everything feels human scale, with mixed use zoning, cute mom and pop shops, and reasonably sized streets.

Thanks also for the memories! I grew up in Schenectady and went to Russell Sage/RPI for my undergrad. It wa a while ago (graduated 1979!). I was so glad that you drove through the colleges. It was nice to see them again. I havent been back in 30+ years so this was really wonderful. Again, thank you! I would like to suggest that you do a trip in the countryside. Its beautiful in any season in upstate NY.

I was looking to move from NYC to upstate New York near Schenectady Albany regional areas. I’m looking at Troy.. which is a smaller city which has a historical unique style to it.. areas of Troy ,I would consider like congress St,between 3rd and Washington Pl.a few others you passed by in Downtown Troy historical area. There are certain areas in Troy,side it’s like a ghost town.. troy wouldn’t be my pick for a new place to consider home ..overall ,I think it’s a pretty cool small city..

St. Mary's Church on the left 10:18 and what used to be St. Mary's School on the left 10:34 now probably apartments. Went from 1st to 3rd grade late 1960's. The Sisters either thought I was a genius or an idiot. I became a physics professor so a little bit of both.

I see they demolished the parking garage next to the Old Fear's Department Store. That did not last very long, just like City Hall on Monument Square. Sad.

A nice drive that would be more nicer in the spring when the trees are fresh with new foliage, or in the summer.

Hey look it's troylet that's what we called Troy, and it hasn't changed from what Im seeing. This city has so much potential if they would take advantage of the riverfront or have they? Did they close the Jack in the Box? You should do a visit to Gus's Hotdogs in Watervliet or is that closed too? How much are their mini's now? The history is so rich in the capital city district. . I heard Bob and Ron's fish fry closed is that correct? This area is known for Hotdogs and off-the-charts fish fries. They say you can never go home, and when you do nothing changes which is #sad. Imagine 7 months of gloomy weather that's upstate NY and if it's a rainy cold summer it's depressing. I wish you would do a narration and point things out for the viewers who aren't from the area.
@michaelcasey-n9k Жыл бұрын
Grew up in this depressing city. Now only return for weddings and funerals. The only reason me and my brothers return at all is for the "Trifecta". 1. Charlie's Hotdog's, 2. Ted's Fish Fry, 3. Jack's Hamburger's (Technically Wynanskill).
@gorgemetz8062 Жыл бұрын
@@michaelcasey-n9k Tell me about Jack's I left in 2005 for good so is Jack's newer than 2005? Charlies are killer dogs, but I prefer Gus's at least I did when I lived in the region. Are they still around? Ted's Fish Fry was great as well. I know Wynanskill only because I dated a girl from there. Considering you left the area after me what can you tell me about Lark Street in Albany that's if you ever hung out there. This is how I find out what's going on in the area.
