I remember stories like that from my great grandma. She was 104...born in 1904; when she passed. She remembered when cars were invented. She got in trouble for riding in her neighbors new car...her dad said “you could be killed going 20 mph!” 😂 she also remembered seeing the news paper reports about the titanic sinking, and hearing the adults talking about it.

Please do a video/podcast on how messed up the foster care system is! Foster Care is linked with human trafficking. There are so much children in foster care and not enough funding and people helping/working in and with the system , it’s easy to have “missed placed children.”

My house burnt down when I was 19 in 2004. Take it from me: practice a fire drill. My mom had gone over fire safety with my younger brother and myself since we were young and where to go if we had a fire and where to meet. We followed it to a T when it happened. My mom barely escaped but we all made it out, including our dog who I grabbed on my way out. Because we had a practiced plan it kept us from panicking and saved us precious minutes to get out of a burning house. The fire alarms disnt even start going off til we were already out of the house. Go over fire safety with your children or even just your spouse if you don't have kids. You don't know where you could be in the house in those horrific moments. Also another piece of advice: always, always make sure your fire insurance is up to date. Ours was not and we had to do the demolition ourselves and some of the rebuilding because the insurance money didn't cover all. Stay safe everyone and be smart, put a plan in place

I've listened to a lot of people talk about this case and one fact that y'all didn't mention was that the parents went to bed early (before the phone call) and let the kids stay up if they promised to do their chores before going to bed. They all agreed and stayed up. Their chores included going outside to tend to some of the animals they had, I believe. I think, personally, that the kids went out to do their chores before bed and stumbled across the people setting up to set the house on fire (the ones cutting the wires, removing car equipment, taking the ladder, etc) and the men took them. Then the phone call happened and the mom believed that the kids must have already gone to bed. The older girl was asleep on the couch but I think she dosed off earlier by accident, thus the kids were unsupervised. I do think that the mafia was involved since it was such a well thought out plan, though they may not have intended to be spotted by the children. I think that the phone call was to make sure the family didn't notice the kids being taken and to make sure the family was still at the house before they carried out the rest of the plan, obviously having took the kids to a secluded location where they were all hiding out. Then they heard the 'bombs' and the fire started. I don't think they necessarily killed the children afterward though. There was a postcard sent to the family years later with a picture of an older boy on it that looked like an older version of one of the boys and on the back was some numbers that the family think could have been a postal code and, if so, it was the same postal code as the city in Italy that lived. It's possible the children were threatened into silence and not contacting their family in fear of their lives or their families or both. And obviously the torture of not knowing what happened to those 5 children caused so much distress for the whole family. I think the police knew the mafia had something to do with it and were possibly too scared of them to say/do anything or they were blackmailed/paid off by the mafia. Anything is truly possible but this is just a condensed theory I personally have concocted from listening to multiple ways the story has been told.

yeah and also another wejrd thing is that the women at the hotel said that she saw 4 out of the 5 kids, and then they saw bones or whatever parts of a 17-18 year old boy, that couldve been the 14 year old, since there was only 4 seen by the woman

So after a body is incinerated during the cremation process, they actually still have to collect the remaining bones and crush them into “ash.” The Fire alone isn’t enough to bring the body to ash.

Not that I buy the cremated theory, but what if they were cremated and then an appliance, or something heavy enough fell on the bones. But even then, that's 5 sets of bones.

About spirits responding to asking them to stop: that's totally true, if it's the spirit of a living thing. My house is over 100; I live in Philly and really close to a cemetery from the 17/1800's - practically next door. So, every now and then weird things start to happen. Lights flickering, my cats looking in weird areas of the house and meowing, etc. One time I was super - ahem - we'll say i was.... previously using a healthy amount of *herb*, and I was taking a shower. (Because hot showers, when you're stoned, feel absolutely amazing.) I was boppin out to Disney songs, when my bathroom light flicked off. I was alone in the house, with the bathroom door shut. It's such a small bathroom, because it's a small house, and I could have definitely reached the light switch if I just leaned out of the shower. However, it was nighttime, I was blazed, and having no shit. So I went, "Absolutely fucking not can you please turn that back on and not bother me in the bathroom?" And, wouldn't ya know it, the damn light turned back on. Haven't had another incident like that in the bathroom again!

to be fair, I'd known about the ghost in my house for a while. It's always important to set up boundaries with a nonviolent spirit, and they're usually willing to comply as long as you ask nicely! I like to think of my house as a sort of pit-stop, so whenever something new comes through, I always make sure I tell them not to mess with me. Especially in the bathroom.

@@CantFightTheNarwhals That's so crazy but weirdly relatable to me. I live in a 140 year old former farm house, which is now divided into two separate apartments. The previous person who lived here for over 40 years passed away in my bedroom from lung cancer. Ever since I moved in, I experience weird stuff. The light or the TV going on and off on its own, kitchen cabinets being thrown open with a loud bump and sounds at random times like someone is walking in the hallway, items disappearing and reappearing and other electronic devices often act weird or break, it's excessive! First I thought, I was just imagining it because I knew of the fate of the previous owner but other people experienced it as well while visiting. It comes and goes in intervals. More activity around certain times, then it suddenly stops for a couple of months then it slowly comes back and increases again. It doesn't feel menacing though but it gets annoying and a little creepy. I regularly use sage now and tell it to please leave when it gets unbearable and it really helps.

I really recommend you guys watch the documentary Cowspiracy on Netflix. It talks about climate change but focus on how animal agriculture is the number one factor towards it. A lot of companies say cars and burning coal are the priority things to focus on cutting back (and yes they are important!) but in reality they just don’t want to talk about animal agriculture. Going vegan and not supporting it is a huge thing everyone can do to not only help the animals but help the earth and your body. You also spoke about trees being cut down for paper, and I’m not saying you’re wrong but animal agriculture is the number one thing trees are being cut down for. So please take some time and watch Cowspiracy it is really mind opening and I think you guys would really enjoy it and find it interesting. 💚

The kids were pretty young. Maybe they heard something hit the roof and thought it was Santa coming to deliver presents and went outside to see if they could get a look at him. Obviously not wanting to wake their parents, they went outside and surprised the arsonists, who decided split second to take the kids to cover their own butts. "We're part of the fire brigade!quick, get in this car so we can get you away from this fire!" If it was a member of the community, the kids would have recognized them and probably trusted them. What happened afterwards I don't know. Maybe they were told that their parents died in the fire and were then sent to Italy to be adopted and it never occurred to them to question the adults. Then they were raised by other people and maybe even came back to the US at some point.

A response to one of the intro topics- a HUGE factor of deforestation is also agriculture. Making room for land to raise cattle, to grow food for cattle that is then processed into our meat, etc. I know that both of you probably eat meat, but if you look a little further into it, you will see how catastrophic it really is for the planet, yet it;s not widely talked about because a vast majority of the population does eat meat, and the meat and dairy industry is a multi billion dollar industry. The documentary Cowspiricy presents it in a really digestible and interesting way! :) love the podcast.

When my son was 2 I took him to a close small neighborhood park in the middle of the day. We were the only 2 there, aside from a dad who came and Eent with his small kid. Toward the end of us leaving some old man in a eletric "wheel chair" pulled up the parking lot, and followed the concrete path all the way down to me and my son, at this point it was just me and my son again. At first I thought he was going to say I wasn't allowed to be there because I didn't live there, but then I reminded myself he doesn't know if I do or not. So the second he kept coming toward us I grabbed my son and walked through the rocks and dirt path making sure not to get on the side walk were he could reach us, I started filming just to be safe and he started following us back to my car as he was shouting im not going to hurt you I just like watching the kids play I just told him leave us alone and im filming him I have hiS face on camera. As I got to my car I opened thr closes door to me the passenger door jumped in with my son and locked the doors asap. As I looked up he had stood up from the wheel chair and was going toward my car, I filmed it all as I started my car and pulled out of parking lot,I didn't even buckle my kid in I was so scared I didn't have time. I guess he got back in the chair because chased my car onto the small back road and tried following me obviously I sped off he couldn't keep up. I stopped filming and called the cops I pulled into a close populated gas stations far enough but close enough so I could meet a cop and show them were to go to find the guy. The cops called me back and told me it was a local man with autism and does just hang out at the park, hes old and disabled , they apologized for what happened but couldn't donanything, I asked for them to do bigger investigation because he stood up and tried running to my car so somethings wrong i could feel it. And something is wrong with their info. Sure enough they found they guy, tried to id him and get his medical card to show his disabilities, but they guy took off back home. They followed him home and sure enough he wouldn't let them inside they restrained him, they figured out , the wheel chair was fake, his autism card was fake, they found child porn and pedo stuff all through out his house . He was arrested and investigated, they found unknown multiple bones in his back yard under a concrete slab, he did go to jail but I never heard a verdict on the small bones, so we will never know. but YA ALWAYS WATCH YOUR SURROUNDINGS

Honestly I truly believe that the kids perished in the fire. When bones are burned enough they can become calcined which makes them extremely fragile, as in could crumble to the touch. I mean these are volunteer firefighters in the 40s where life shut down on Christmas. It’s quite possible that the bodies were burned down to bone and were overlooked. They probably didn’t have amazing training back then and especially a volunteer force. The basment has coal in it, it was smoldering for hours. Coals are extremely hot. I definitely don’t think the fire was an accident though.

I could understand MAYBE overlooking 1 body but 5? I dont know about that. And usually during cremation they still have to crush portions of bone, I can't imagine a house fire, that burns at a much lower temp than a cremation incinerator, could fully cremate 5 bodies into complete ash.

Recent studies show that animal agriculture is the biggest contributor to climate change and air, water and land pollution. I feel like being an environmentalist goes hand in hand with being vegan. What are your thoughts on that? Love the podcast!

YES. People need to eliminate animal consumption if they want to help the planet. I came here to comment the same thing. They were talking about people not opening their eyes to climate change but they are doing the same thing to animal agriculture. I feel like if they were as “woke” as they say they are they’d open their eyes and see the harm animal agriculture is having on the world, the animals, and our health. Animal agriculture’s carbon output is more than that of the whole transportation sector. One time Kendall mentioned she cut out meat and felt so good but she won’t cut out fish because “we love sushi” yet we are over fishing our oceans and they’ll be barren by 2048. No ocean, no us. People need to stop ignoring that their personal choices have an impact. On businesses, on the planet, and on innocent lives.

I always worry that there will be a fire when no one is home and my dog won’t make it out (we do have stickers on our doors saying there is 1 dog inside). When my husband was changing the smoke alarm batteries our dog ran upstairs to hide in our bed because the noise scared her which made me realize we needed to train her to run out her dog door. I had my husband keep pushing the test button while I ran downstairs and out the door near her dog door to lure her out with bones and treats. We need to practice it more often but I’m so thankful I saw her reaction when it wasn’t an actual emergency! We always practiced with our kid when she was tiny and now she knows what to do but we had never thought to do a drill with the dog!

I often talk to my family and friends about global warming and things we need to do to prevent it from getting worse. It is alarming how little people care and how bad their attitudes are about it. They are of the mindset that “we will deal with it when we get there.” I just don’t understand why the UN won’t crack down on making change throughout our planet. I have always wanted children, but I don’t want to bring kids into a world that is deteriorating.

Cali Llama I went vegetarian 8 years ago, and vegan for a year then got pregnant and honestly couldn't eat anything vegan than I was eating before. I ended up in the hospital because I tried to force myself to eat vegan because I DID NOT want to eat meat again but I couldn't stop puking everything up, even water. After coming out of the hospital I tried to eat vegan a few more times and I still puked every time, so I had no choice and incorperated chicken and eggs back into my diet a couple times a week for the first time since 8th grade and I haven't puked since. It sucks, but as soon as I have the baby I'm going back to being vegan. But I am a prime example that being vegan or vegetarian doesn't work all the time for everyone. I loved being vegan and I can't wait to get back to normal. Pregnancy does fucked up things to people lol.

Cali some people don't have the means to go vegan or because of health reasons CANNOT go vegan. We should be more aware but veganism is not the end all be all solution I also have a friend with autism that throws up when she tries to eat many vegetables, she can only stand too. Some people have severe allergies, severe iron deficencies Why not make just real farms that are more enviormentaly safe, and be less cruel to animals? My grandma works on a ranch where they treat their animals amazing and kill then humanley when it's time, after theyve had a happy and healthy life. Sorry if I have typos I'm tired, also I am a vegetarian I just don't think everyone needs to be vegan or vegetarian and honestly a lot of people can't be anyways

the thing about house fires is that the fire isnt what should scare you its the actual smoke caused from the fire, the smoke will get to you first and it will either knock you unconscious then the fire will get to you or the smoke could possibly kill you (depends on your health, age etc.) with that being said if someone did come in and take the kids it would be hard to take 5 kids but it wouldnt be hard to take 5 kids who are unconscious...i dont see how this hasnt been thought of yet

Hey guys love the podcast - completely agree with all of your conversation about climate change. Have you ever thought about cutting out meat? I’m not saying go full on vegan, even making some small changes can help. The United Nations food and agriculture organisation says 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions are from animal agriculture which is more than all all transport emissions combined! (Transport is responsible for 13% emissions). If you want look into it, I recommend cowspiracy on Netflix. Keep doing what you’re doing with the podcast. I get so excited when I see a notification for a new episode. 😊

So to talk about the comment you made about how you can’t imagine waking up to your bedroom filled with fire and smoke in the middle of the night- I’ve been through that. When I was 10 our apartment caught on fire. My 8 year old sister and I shared a bedroom and she had woken up in the middle of the night because her feet were hot, turns out the electric blanket she was sleeping with malfunctioned and caught fire. The blanket melted onto her foot but she ripped it off and came and woke me up. I woke up to her saying there was a fire and all I can remember is our entire room was on fire. We woke our mom up, she punched through one of those glass containers for a fire extinguisher outside and ran back in while us kids called 911 and also ran to all of the other apartments we were attached to so we could wake everyone else up so they could get out. My mom was a dental assistant at the time and when she punched the glass to get the fire extinguisher she got a ton of glass in her hand and had to have a few surgeries and couldn’t work (she was a single mom raising us kids). All of our neighbors’ homes survived, the three of us survived, my sisters foot was okay in the end but you can still see her melted skin on her foot. We lost everything we had. Something important I’d like to include is: Sunbeam produces hundreds of thousands of electric blankets and they store them in warehouses until right before their warranty date expires and then they distribute them to stores. In these warehouses they can have water damage, rodents chewing into boxes and damaging the wires, etc and they don’t have to do extra safety inspections on their products before they get to the customer but by the time they’re in our homes for a short amount of time the warranties have already expired.
