To quote the man himself: Concerning the Music on Vinyl edition: "This is a digitally sourced record. I personally don't care for digital records if they don't have to be digital. ... although this is a phenomenal sounding digitally sourced record, I myself would avoid this copy. If you have the means try to track out one of the analog copies." And later concerning the MFSL edition: "I personally love the sound of this. This is my go-to Stereo copy. ... great natural, warm, open sound. One of the best copies out there."

Glad to hear you like the recent MFSL 45. I have the Classic 33 and some others(no originals) but I like the MFSL the best. Don't understand why some folks don't like it. Maybe they put out two mastering and did not say anything. I find the situation very strange.

I finally received my Mofi copy of kind of blue.i have 4 copies of this reissue,I’ve just finished the sound quality test of each on.i have the classic records 33 1/3 2lp corrected spd.and non corrected spd, I have the classic records 45rpm 4 LP set,and now the Mofi 45rpm box set. They all sound great and they all have little flaws ,the Classic Records 33 1/3 sound outstanding,it’s flaw is surface noise, the Classic record 45 rpm 4 lp set sounds great but it lacks in tight bass, the Mofi 45 lp set sounds great ,it’s flaw is a lot of bass. So to me the winner is the Mofi, reissue because the over all quality of sound the cymbals sounded great, Miles trumpet sounded great ,a little bassy but not to much,I’ve read about the excess bass but it wasn’t to bad in my system ,I think it may be do to the fact that I have an all analogue system ,tubes in every piece of equipment I’m guessing it famed the bass a little.it was also the quiet of the other two. I give it a solid 5 stars out of 5. My other two copies I gave 4.9 Stars .Mofi reissue is just a little better ,a little cleaner .sounding. My only other issue is that Mofi should have used the original Columbia 6 eye Deep Groove label on the record.

You'll have to do an update to this video one day. There were some pressings not covered like the other 2 Classic releases (the double LP one with one speed corrected and one incorrect & the 4 LP 45 rpm one) The 2013 mono and the UHQR, maybe when the 45 rpm UHQR comes out you'll have to redo this one. Also I'm not sure about the speed issue only affecting the Stereo copies. I have an early 60s UK mono pressing and the speed is incorrect on side one.

I’m planning to buy the Mofi double 45 but they’re awaiting repress and who knows how long that will take. My hifi is relatively low cost,, rega p2 , emotive amp and preamp, klispch towers (rf62ii). Dont know how critical it is I find a stellar pressing

I bought a recent brand new pressing, cheap from my local store, wouldn’t really know how to tell you what version. But I’ve noticed when I get to the third track, so far through, there does seem to be some significant background noise. I thought maybe a dirty copy (even though I cleaned it) but I’ve noticed that it’s there on digital copies on streaming services. Are you aware of this, is it common? Is there a copy that doesn’t have this that I wouldn’t have to pay silly money for?

How does the mono sound to you and why would you say you prefer the stereo? I have a 180g 2007 german repressing in stereo. A two eye. I haven't compared it to the mono CD mix tho… Another thing I have heard is that there is a Digital 192/24 mono remaster thats based on a clean copy of the original pressing. Have you heard this? I know I'm replying to this a few years later, but for me personally on my system which is fairly resolving, I bought both the MOV stereo and the MOV mono versions, just to compare. Now, normally I have NO interest in mono UNLESS the master itself is better (like the UK Abbey Road Disraeli Gears for example, blows away the stereo master) BUT... I really liked the MOV mono on my system. The drums come through much more powerfully than the stereo version even the MFSL 2-45 which I also have. So, get the MOV mono if you are going to get a reasonably priced one. The MOV stereo was just okay, but their mono pressing for some reason really stood out!

Agreed. I have a ‘70s copy and it sounds really good to me. I’ve had good luck overall with ‘70s Columbia reissues. Recently found a 6-eye mono KoB for cheap and it’s on another level of course, but I was totally fine thinking the ‘70s stereo was the best copy I’d ever own. the Canadian 1st press stereo is very rare as well - maybe 1 to 100 pressed compared to the Mono - many many copies have some sort of inner groove distortion - but sometimes a really nice one emerges and sounds amazing. The Mono Canadian 1st press sounds ok but nothing special.

Best pressing of the metallica black album? I will tell you that. Original Elektra records US 1st pressing. I don't think they ever did a second press. I'm not sure, but they are a bit rare. If you see it on vinyl original US, grab it. It's most likely 1st press. I have one. It's killer. Don't pay too much if it's below standards condition wise.I lucked out. Great mastering and production. Hard to find a mint clean copy. It can't get any better. I don't like any Metallica reissues. I just have all original US megaforce and Elektra pressings including and up to the black album. Hope that helps. Trust me.

Dave- He has a video "tour" of his (slightly updated) current system on one of his KZbin videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6u2oGR-qq-cqZo He does not list the cost of all his components but your estimate of 10 to 15 thousand dollars is way, way, too low. For example, the turntable you see on the left in this video is $20,000. I'm sure the entire system costs significantly more than $100, 000. If you like the way your own system sounds, be happy

I enjoyed this video. I like Kind Of Blue too, except for Miles Davis on Trumpet. His performance sounds similar to someone dragging their fingers on a chalk board. The 5.1 SACD as processed through my OPPO UDP-205 is the best feeling of all playback media I've heard so far.

It’s funny, but Miles is often the weakest link on his albums, musically. He was a genius of promoting and putting bands together, but in terms of musicianship he wasn’t up to par with most of the guys he played with.
