I genuinely think a major mistake this series made with characterizing Edgeworth was making his first introductory case (in present day not one of the 50 flashbacks) a dead loss where he gets outwitted by a novice due to a very idiotic missed detail, and then the AAI games making him the protagonist in mystery games for children that need simple logic to function. Phoenix being a moron who finds a way out of any situation through sheer willpower is endearing. Edgeworth feels out of character. Everything they establish prior to his introduction puts him on such a pedestal and yet we don't even get to see him win a single time before Phoenix outsmarts him

To be fair, a lot of the tech in ace attorney is weird. They still use video cassettes and flip phones, with cameras on phones being a rarity(as said in investigations 1 case 2), but also have technology that can effectively read people's emotions on the fly(Athena's whole thing in the new AA games), giant jumbo jets with seperate floors and bars on them like cruise ships(again Investigations 1 case 2), juxtaposed with the somewhat outdated forensic technology/investigation (Every game). It's weirdly 90s, even though it (supposedly) takes place in the 2000s-2010s. It's weird.

Minor spoiler: it is true that knightley's fingerprints on the grip of the gun doesn't proof anything, however the one that incriminate him is that his fingerprints were found on the bullet case (or whatever they're called) as well. This implies that knightley reloaded the gun beforehand, thus confirming his ownership onto the gun. This further implies that knightley did pulled off a switcheroo.

I watched the VODs and most of his complaints are things that could apply to the entire series, he literally gets mad that a witness who is a convicted criminal and compulsive liar is withholding information in case 2. He also spends a looong time bitching about the fact that case 1 is a full length case rather than a mini tutorial case, which seemed to have more to do with it not fitting in with the streaming schedule he expected than the actual content of the case.
