Rolling Stone journalist Miles Klee brings a selection of French melancholia, Jamaica Kincaid, and tells how Mark Twain inspired Wil E. Coyote and Looney Tunes. He and Joshua briefly bond over both riding the bus through L.A. to get to the podcast recording and delve into the joy of an Irish Goodbye. After listening to Miles tell of a story where the protagonist hates being at a party in one of his books, Joshua even wonders if the entire pleasure for introverts at a party isn't building up enough tension to feel the relief of leaving.

Thank you so much for creating/maintaining/hosting/whatever-word-works-ing this podcast! It's such a pleasant little oasis. My book recommendation is Revenge of the Lawn by Richard Brautigan. Sometimes I'll mention a love for Brautigan to readers/writers, and sometimes they squirm at what they perceive as an inaccessibility due to his occasional weirdness (In Watermelon Sugar, Rommel Drives on Deep Into Egypt, Trout Fishing in America, etc). With the stories in Revenge of the Lawn, Brautigan shows that he is able to perfectly tread the line between the bizarre and the grounded. It's a great introduction to the author!

Great discussion. May I alert Miles and Joshua to the novel "Her Own Devices," forthcoming from Guernica Editions a month from now, a metafictional, magical women's crime novel that I happened to write, hoping they will groove on it...

First this podcast is fucking great quality but people haven’t caught on yet. So keep pushing forward! My book Recommendation is “War is A Racket” by Smedley Butler This book is the most important book ever written in US History. It Chronologies the birth of US Imperialism and is written by the United States most decorated war Veteran. The reason Smedley is so important also is because he became an anti war activist. Butler also was pivotal in stopping a fascist coup during FDR presidency (if you read “a people’s history” by Howard Zinn you will find the fascist coup was successful when Truman was forced into office and Henry Wallace was kicked off the presidential convention floor by the capitalist class)

You're like The Dude from The Great Lebowski. Only, I don't see a drink in your hand and you're dressed decent.
