Thing about this is: NYC is Insanely Massive on it's own. Each borough can literally stand as it's own City. There's a reason why NYC is considered #1 in the biggest city in the USA. You don't have to have Miles have Titled Stories like Peter having "Spider-Man: No More", "Kraven's Last Hunt", "Spider-Island", etc. To use Nightwing as your example: Nightwing, for a long time, doesn't really have titled stories like Batman. Most of his Stories are basically divided by other Runs or Arcs, like Agent 37, Rick Grayson, Batman & Robin (2006), etc. Moving Miles away from NYC isn't going to make him any less Boring, instead, all it does is give people more reasons to not read Miles Morales. If anything, stating Miles should've been kept in 1610 until he stands greatly as a well developed Character is a more respectable opinion. At least like this, he naturally gets his own Everything.

I'll give you one thing miles doesn't have enough of his own rogues however most of his villians are reimaginings like prowler being aaron davis instead of hobie or even his scorpion being different . Where I diagree is not accepting him as spider-man because what is spider-man defined by if not powers, morality , and symbolism. All spider-people have that in common . I don't understand why its difficult for people to accept that especilly given its not like his inclusion is causing any issues. I also think there vare differences outside of race ,powers, and family that make miles intersting . For one his love for the arts differentiates him from peters more nerdy , cocky attitude. Which is why the movies I think handle the character better than most mediums. As well as his home being brooklyn provides a more communal "friendly neighborhood " experience that contrasts peters larger stories. I'm not saying your a bad person for not prefering him over peter , matter a fact I think peter will always be my fav. However Miles is undoubtbly spider-man in his own right. Ultimately though If you don't wanna call him spider-man it doesn't matter becase the publishers are the ones who gave him that title. The absolute irony is that the very same people that would scream about Miles' defence are also the first people that won't accept Yu Komori, Takuya Yamashiro or Miguel as "Spider-man" since they aren't "token enough" for them. And all three of them suffered; more so than Miles probably ever did in his debut series until they had to spice him up. As for "ever so popular", the ultimate test would be this : when Nintendo and Tecmo approached Marvel to make Marvel ultimate Aliance 3, they already had somewhat of a plot, a set of characters and a game plan for the game. Marvel told them to put Kamala Khan, Miles, Captain Marvel and Spider-gwen because they were the "popular" ones. Tecmo and Nintendo threatened Marvel that if they aren't allowed to put in the 90s X-Men, which Marvel initially didn't want since they put those four on a pedastool, the devs would walk out of the project. Not even the staunchiest of overseas superhero fans of over 30 years care about Miles because like three of the four characters that Marvel wanted to put in, he's not a character; he's a concept for the writers to self-insert in for their fanfiction.

Buying his game is quite a stretch however, especially when the sales spiked when it was offered as a bundle with the SM1 remaster. Make of that what you will. No but Alonzo is puerto rican, like Miles. The video even mentions it. And self-insert, from the writer's point of view, isn't always based on their appearance or skin colour; otherwise Doc Oc, even when reborn after the Superior Spider-man storyline, would look like a fat balding man with a beard. He doesn't; he's Dan Slott's self-insert and he looks the way Dan wishes he looked, as a close aproximation to Peter. Not every character is a self-insert of their writer, obviously; but if you can't distinguish the ones that are maybe read something more to see what I mean. The differences between a "character" and a "self-insert" can be very apparent, such as Azula from The Last Airbender; her portrayal in the show is that of a character in a story while in the comics, especially the more recent ones, are similar to an author's self-insert about their latest therapy session. Or for a completely original character, the main character of Twillight. Just that. Heck, forget Twillight, many romantic novels are like that. I don't like Miles and find him boring. They should reboot him as someone with JUST electic powers as I don't think Marvel has a heroic electric based heroes. The issue is that Miles isn't the only person to take the name of Spider-Man, and yet no one gives the others any of the same complaints, leaving a clear double standard. When Peter retired in the comics to be with Mary Jane and raise a family, Ben Reilly stopped being Scarlet Spider and became the current Spider-Man at the time. Miguel O'hera is also a Spider-Man. Doc Ock even became a Spider-Man. From our view, the way we differentiate these different Spider-Men are their subtitles. Peter is the "Amazing" Spider-Man. Ben is the "Sensational" Spider-Man. Miguel is Spider-Man "2099." And Miles is the "Ultimate" Spider-Man. But these names don't exist in the perspective of Marvel. Miles has a secret identity, he can't use "Miles Morales" as his superhero name. Spider-Man 2099 is from the year 2099. Everyone in his time would simply refer to him as just "Spider-Man" because calling him by the current year would be super stupid. That's like if we called Peter "Spider-Man 1962" or whatever important years that are related to his character.

It makes more sense to call her White Spider, akin to Scarlet Spider. Although giving Miles Morales a Title to distinguish him without saying a Mouthful sounds good, it should be similar to how Otto is called "Superior Spider-Man", how Miguel is called "Spider-Man 2099", how Yu Onomae is called "Spider-Man Fake Red", etc.

Great video. The image capture of Miles and Peter with the same comic cover is testament to how lacking Miles is in originality and reinforces a lot of the problems I have with him as a character. I don’t have a problem with multiple Spider-Man characters, I have a problem with multiple Spider-Men being in the same continuity or same universe. I didn’t mind Miles before he came to earth 616. I resent Miles because he not only tries to share Peter’s limelight he outright tries to hog the whole shit for himself, at least that’s what the writers do with him. In addition I find him tokenizing as a character and his creators insulting of our (comic fans) intelligence and see the concept as straight up pandering. Yeah we didn’t need a black Spider-Man just better stories for our existing black heroes. You can update Blade,Storm,Luke Cage, characters that were already black, who had their own distinctive characteristics as heroes, defining emblems and other factors that made them stand out. Miles is Spider-Man. Same way Peter is Spider-Man. He’s a Spider-Man. Same for Peter. That’s just how it is. Same way Gwen is a spider woman. Same way Pav is a Spider-Man. Same way Hobie is a Spider-Man. It’s just the differences. We shouldn’t really be worried about if they are Spider-Man or not because they just are. It’s what makes them miles or Peter or Gwen. What makes them people. Anyone can be Spider-Man if they got the abilities and the heart and the balls. But it ain’t about what makes miles Spider-Man it’s about what makes him miles. Peter is the first/OG Spider-Man. Miles is the next or just another Spider-Man. Gwen is if his gf took his place. The spiderverse movies and even OG comics make it clear that Spider-Man can just be anyone. “Anyone can be under the mask”. There is no longer THE SPIDER-MAN or THE ONE AND ONLY SPIDERMAN. There are Spider-Men. Each one as insignificant as the multiverse dictates but also as special and unique in their own right. Miles is a Spider-Man. Same for all of them. People call him miles just to differentiate him from everyone else. Same way you say spider Gwen because people will get confused with Jessica drew. And miles taking Peter’s place is kinda just the natural way to go. Anyone can be Spider-Man if they get spider themed abilities. It’s who they are under the mask that we care about the most. Being a Spider-Man and a character is a 2 in 1 package. And even if he was a token at first it was to try something new and different. Problem is the comics (at least first since he gets more compelling mostly with the prowler) could’ve done a better job. Later on he become more unique and compelling. But then the spider verse movies made it concrete that he is a Spider-Man and his own character. Even the games did what they could to make him different from the way more experienced and confident peter. Miles has grown out of the token label. Just like many of the other Spider-Men. These Spider-Men are Spider-Men. These characters just come in different flavors of Spider-Men… wait no stop. Maybe it’s not a bad thing Peter is becoming less special with all the variety you can pick out from. It’s bad when what makes him special and a person is not there. It should still be there and evolve but leave a bunch of Spider-Men with their own differences to pick out from. The others should become their own and become special in their own right. And miles and Gwen, ect. have become unique. Problem is in the comics, he’s not as compelling as the movies or games. And miles not being able to sell isn’t really the fault of him. It’s that he’s just wasn’t that interesting but spiderverse made him more interesting with a relatable arc of Greta expectations and some more allegories of transitioning to adulthood while giving Peter the ending the comics won’t. While also having to deal with living up to THE LEGEND, THE MANTLE, THE LEGACY of being Spider-Man. The others are to play with the concept of the multiverse. I don’t know anyone who likes miles because he’s just a black Spider-Man, me and everyone suddenly liked him because spider verse had a really good and relatable story to tell even if it’s simple. Origin story but he gets guidance from other spidermen. While trying to move out of the comfort zone of sticking with Peter despite the variety they have now and taking a risk that payed off. Him having others to be more marketable isn’t bad it’s smart when they’re supporting him in his story but stand on their own. And despite being critical of both spiderverse movies, I add up the points with the flaws and the good and the lowest I can honestly give when I feel mean for no reason is an 8/10. Nitpicks and critiques and all. Feel the same for Daredevil (the show). Only real problems I got is big Willy does spam that one op move on miles, Jeff kinda just stops hating Spider-Man but still doesn’t like him, and Gwen doesn’t have a moment to take in that Peter is Spider-Man and alive in another world and is right there. Hell maybe have Peter mention his Gwen but not wanting to talk about it Also the reason why miles beat rhino but Peter didn’t was cuz getting smashed through a bunch of walls and I’m pretty sure even taking an explosion is gonna take him out while miles was playing catch up And him not having his own rogues gallery doesn’t make him Spider-Man either. And it doesn’t even dictate him as miles the person or the idea. Its just something that should happen because they should step out of their comfort zone like spider verse did. Uhhh in conclusion, miles is a Spider-Man but we should be more concerned about what makes miles miles. And so far I’d say he’s def made it from being bland to miles. Even if he was boring af and nobody liked him he’s still Spider-Man. He’s miles but only because that’s his name. He’s just not really a character but now he is. I think this is mistaken. While yes the point of Spider-Man is that anyone can be under the mask. That's a lesson for US to take home and realize that we can be great, we can be heroes in our own right. Another reason for Miles Morales is due to Disney/ Marvel fighting over the Spider-Man's right from the Dikito family. The Disney company was worried that the Dikito family were going to win the rights back. That explains the massive push for Miles and the downplay of Peter. Disney eventually had made a settlement and won the exclusive rights from the family.

Though I still don't really believe that I'm someone who likes Miles because he's a black Spider-Man deep down. Sure, I can't name any major differences in his character, but his race is definitely not something that I think about. Also I still think that the spider verse movies are the best version of him. I don't really think that he's overshadowed by the other spider people in those films. When it comes games, I have no issue with peter not being involved since it's Miles' game, but him losing to rhino that badly is for the plot (not impossible, but highly and very unlikely).

You are correct that kingpin slams his fist on Miles like he did to Peter, and you are correct that Miles tanked it while Peter could not, but that doesn't make it contrived for the simple fact that Peter was already on the brink of death. He fought both Prowler and Green Goblin at the same time, and got his face stuffed into the super collider, and withstood the super collider exploding while being right up on it. And he still clung on to life, up until Kingpin slams him. Not even Green Goblin withstood that. I think it's safe to say that Peter took a crap ton more damage than Miles did in his super collider fight, as is why he actually tanked the hit from Kingpin.

I just noticed this on a recent viewing, but I think Kingpin just smashed Peter's head in. They don't show his injury, he's just obscured by Kingpin's body and obviously they wouldn't show that on a kid's movie. Before that, the impression I got from the scene was that Peter had a ruptured lung after he mentioned the cough wasn't good, and later Kingpin would cave his chest in. Either way, that was way more than Miles had to take in later.

Crazy how we can say the same things for every variation of The Flash but we wanna talk about how Miles isn't Spider-Man and is a token character. I agree that Miles borrows off of Peter in regards to villains, I do wish Miles had more of his own villains, but that's really about all I can agree with. Miles in Spiderverse had a fundamentally different arc than Peter, which every Miles does follow to a somewhat base degree. His arc is about living up to being Spider-Man and if he can ever be as good as Peter. Peter doesn't have that kind of arc because he's the first Spider-Man. Peter's arc is about doing the right thing no matter what comes his way and brings him down. He takes the "with great power comes great responsibility" arc as his own. Miles always had this idea in his mind, this isn't something he's struggled with like Peter. Miles' arc is most always him trying to live up to being Spider-Man, despite the fact he has everything he needs to BE Spider-Man, he just has to start believing that himself. Miles is the only one who ever doubts what he can do, and a large part of his character is finding that confidence in himself that lets him stand with Peter. This is further expanded upon in Spiderverse where he is quite literally told to his face, BY Miguel, that he is an anomaly and is a mistake. He's told he shouldn't have been Spider-Man, and that his differences make him a bad Spider-Man. The entire point of that story is that following the basic thread of the Spider-Man storyline doesn't make you Spider-Man. Spider-Man as a character has always been about doing good with the power you have. Miles was Spider-Man long before he got powers because he's always held that sense of responsibility. That's what makes the message "anyone can wear the mask" so impactful, because so long as you use your power to do good in the world, you can be Spider-Man. If you don't like Miles, just say you don't, no one is gonna judge you for that. However, my problem comes from you misinterpreting what Miles stands to represent as a character, and how you saying he "isn't Spider-Man" goes against his arc and what the writers of his character are trying to say. It's not rocket science, anyone with a basic level of literary comprehension skills can get that plot point through their head.

Spider-Man as a character is about community, being responsible, and not giving up no matter what obstacles come your way. There's no reason there being a black, Indian, mexican, or whatever else version of the character should cause an issue but somehow it does. Spider-Man is a title you get. Miles is Spider-man, Peter is Spider-Man, Ben Reilly is Spider-man, Pavitr is Spider-man. Ofcourse Peter is THE Spider-man everyone knows but that doesn't change the fact that he has successors or people in different realities that take on that same name. Even before Miles there were copies of Spider-man that took on the mantle. There shouldn't be any issues with Miles being Spider-Man. They're all the same hero at the end of the day. Just different interpretations of it.

Miles was only interesting as a novelty during the Ultimate comics. Even then, once the real Ultimate Spider-Man (the best version of the character period) came back, he completely stole the spotlight. Miles only had 1 good piece of media, that first animated SpiderVerse film. Otherwise, it's been impossible for him to stick with people who actually read comics. It'll be even harder now since the Ditko estate and Marvel settled.

The only reason Peter has lost more is because his character has exited for longer time. Obviously Miles is gonna lose more people as the years go on, you can say this about literally any character. This doesn't make the movie or the character worse because the whole point of the movie is to introduce us to Miles. What a non-issue. "His dad gives him a talk and now he's good at being Spider-Man" That's because Miles' entire arc in the movie was about getting over his insecurities which were messing with his powers (and his new school life), it was never about "getting stronger". Almost every version of onscreen Spider-Man becomes naturally skillful and acrobatic mere days after getting their powers and even disregarding that, Miles is already shown to be acrobatic earlier in the film and even after conquering his powers, he still struggles in his fight against Kingpin and almost loses. "The other spider people glitching is a plot device so Miles can be a hero" This is a problem why exactly? The glitching is explained earlier in the film and the movie is about Miles. This is another non-issue. "Miles surviving getting slammed by Kingpin is a plot contrivance" No it isn't. Younger Peter dies from this attack because he had just tanked an explosion that crippled him. Miles didn't suffer that kind of abuse before he recieved the same attack. That's your fourth non-issue boyo. Your complaints on the sequel are somwhat valid and understandable but your issues with the first film are a result of you simply not paying attention. Stan Lee would be disappointed 🥱

Honestly i want to lay down some history behind Miles Morales creation and WHY he was created. Around the 2000s there were some legal problems whit some DC IPs such as Superman/Batman whit the rights of the first published comic in which they were created, the families of the creators of those characters wanted royalties for them and DC was in a pickle. Marvel saw this and they shat themselves because the rights for Amazing fantasy 14 (the first time Spiderman appeared) were on dispute by the Ditko family, so Marvel COULD AT ANY MOMENT LOSE SPIDERMAN. So what they did is to create a COMPLETELY NEW SPIDERMAN, and if necessary take away the Spiderman name and use a new one, THIS IS THE REASON EVEN MARVEL CALLS MILES MORALES MILES MORALES and not Spiderman. Because if he was called Spiderman THE DITKO FAMILY SUES MARVEL FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT. Also Miles Morales was black because of Obama and politics and use his color for racial shielding. So No, MILES MORALES IS NOT AND NEVER *EVER* WILL BE SPIDERMAN. AND THIS IS BECAUSE IT IS A MATTER OF LEGAL ISSUES, He won't ever be Spiderman, he will always be Miles Morales.

This explains how Miles Morales is not Spider-Man, by stating how he's not written well... In comics. Although having a Rough Start, Over the Years, Miles has become different than Peter in Many ways, not some of those things that comes with Race, Powers, etc. actually progresses Miles and shows how different he is: - Not as Good as Peter in terms of Raw Fighting, relying more on his Powers than anything - He isn't as Smart as Peter. He has Ganke helping him out, who's the smart one between the two - Miles being in a Bi-Ethnic Family, allows him to have different views and culture of the world around him. You're not going to have Coleslaw and Sweet Potato Casserole at his House for Thanksgiving, maybe at Peter you might. - Miles doesn't come from a Low Income Household, he's actually more Middle Class than Peter, and doesn't need to become "Man of the House" because his Maternal Figure is too old to take care of herself. Not only these things allow Miles to embrace how different he is from Peter, but I'll also state: - Although Peter is also Creative, he's also been seen as a Scientific Spider-Man, him trying to be linked to Science has been there from the Start. Miles is not a Scientist, and throughout his Appearance, he's made more to be an Artist. He loves Graffiti, Sketching, Colouring. - Miles Morales is also a Sneakerhead. The type of guy to go out and buy Nikes or Jordans, Adidas even. Peter would NEVER do that for how expensive those Shoes can be for him. Why is it that in this video, there's just mentionings of why Miles is badly written, how Miles is like this or like that, why is there not a Constructive way to "Fix" Miles, or what made Miles better off in his own World than in 616? Also, reason why Miles tanked a Hit from Kingpin when Peter-1610B died from it is because, between the 2 of them, one was cause in an Explosion and took a beating from the fight prior. "Miguel is in his own Self Contained Universe" Miguel was the ONLY one who knew Superior Spider-Man isn't Peter, and worked for Peter as a Scientist while he was in his Time I say this as Someone who thinks Miles took everything Miguel was owed for being the only Popular Spider-Man other than Peter for 20+ Years: Shouldn't even be the case. It should've been: - Peter - Miguel - Cindy Yet, I still think calling Miles Spider-Man is still correct and fine.
