I always love watching Max play fighting games, especially if he's been losing a few rounds. You can see it in his gameplay when the cogs in his brain start spinning and he slowly downloads his opponent. Few minutes later and he's winning 90% of his rounds.

The pure amount of fun I had playing Striker in this beta, even tho she gets ridiculously zoned out by half the cast in the game right now, speaks volumes. Even the character that, on paper, would be extremely weak in comparison to the rest of the roster has…lemme find my list, hold up….oh yeah, a shoulder check completely invincible to any projectile based attack, an invincible dp with insane priority that gets you COMBOS if done correctly, a divekick that’s plus on block, etc….

Sometimes I feel completely disconnected with the general audiences (especially regarding this fighting game genre), I prefer the very balanced approach of KOF 2002 for example, a bazillion characters but all of them have balanced move sets, even the bosses are balanced (if the player is using them, of course). But Max and many other fighting game fans enjoy the busted side of things, which is ironic considering how Max hate Vergil and Dark Phoenix. So how much broken you need to be before crossing this line so to speak? For me, I don't like busted characters at all, in any genre, it's just not fun to play with them. As a Doomfist player in Overwatch, I always felt conflicted when I play with this character, it's like I am "cheating" in a way lol

It’s funny people compare this to xrd a lot when it’s actually closer to dbfz. They use very similar coloring and effects and smear frames are used more like dbfz than xrd. The result is that this game pops a bit more and feels clearer in motion than xrd was. That’s not a jab at xrd either, that was their first attempt at their now trademark art style. But this game is very decidedly better looking than xrd. It’s just no going for the pseudo realism strive aimed for with the dynamic lighting and more washed color palette.

That looks to be exactly what's happening for the new DBS movie. I remember seeing a CGI Disney short that looked hand-drawn, but I could tell it wasn't. @@denvervandrey2883 arcsys actually didn’t patent the animation style despite being one of the first companies to use it on this scale in order to allow for others to be able to do the same. That’s why there are actually some anime that have achieved the same look with their cg effects. Arcsys still retains what amounts to trade secrets and it’s why they are so good at making games look like this but there’s a reason this game is even allowed to have this aesthetic despite not being primarily developed by arcsys themselves. So over time it’s become easier to pull of and ideally one day it will be the norm

This is still going to be a highly controversial topic for a while. While I agree there's no real reason to have motion inputs (specials don't need to be locked behind a what is technically a skill test, regardless of how simple that test may be to pass*), there is definitely a kind of joy I get from doing a complex string and watching it unfold. There are people who purposefully pick difficult characters because they enjoy the challenge, and I think that this motion-optional style, where there's a minor, but still extant benefit to using traditional circles and DPs, is a good choice moving forward. Note: I'm not saying "fireballs r hard" here. There's plenty of video essays on the feel of specials or on how genius it is that you can't block for the entire motion of a DP. What I'm getting at is that I think button specials will help draw in an audience, and once they're invested, they will be FAR more _willing_ to put in the time practicing DPs for the additional benefit. Or maybe they won't, since not everyone wants to go pro. The system in DNF is far better than any "Stylish" mode has ever been.

@@SomeRandomDude821 Exactly on point. I’m trying to remember if it was UMvC who introduced simplified controls but damage output was decreased. Similar to Granblue VS where button-specific skills take longer to regenerate rather than using inputs. Learning specific inputs definitely feels more rewarding once mastered. But generations differ and not everyone can **or are willing** to put in the effort. I think simplified input is more enticing nowadays.

Was going 50 rounds with a Vanguard player with Grappler. Basic way they did it were use his moves in the corner to either raw combo it or hardknock down then use the DP to hit again and then go into super. They were also doing some fucking nonsense with the corner to corner damage with a single convert that gave him Striker long combos without meter.

Vro I use striker and Inquisitor, striker can easily close distance n make ranged characters lives hell because of her insanely fast jab. That 6MS also goes thru projectiles. Also her 2S goes under almost all standing pokes. Just gotta get control quick n let them waste their mana, also use that roll it’s very useful!

I mean once you get used to just using the block button against crossups and fuzzy blocking against the empty jump lows that every character without a command grab has to rely on, most characters can’t really do anything to you if you just block it out. All most of them have is strike-throw, but throw gives pretty much no oki, doesn’t do much damage, and is easier for Grappler to punish than any other character because his jump heavy has the best combination of startup and downward vertical range. All this in addition to being a crossup, the single most plus jump I’m in the game, and a top tier combo starter that can lead into a hit confirmable 40% combo with hard knockdown. For characters to actually punish you doing this they have to either end their pressure early and call it out(Grappler has two great anti air moves for that situation) of stagger their pressure which then allows him to threaten his high damage reversal which has the unique privilege of granting a hard knockdown with no extra cost from any range as long as you counter a some kind of physical attack. And once the opponent starts respecting counter, you can dash block your way in and roll or yolo shoulder charge through most attempts to beat the counter with projectiles. TL;DR Respect Grappler. He’s a fucking menace whenever the person using him actually understands the RPS in this game.

Ghost blade seems to be a mix of lancer and striker in that each hit doesn't to a lot of DMG but has lots of combo potential to get DMG on par with other characters with the range of lancer tho this doesn't make him broken as he shares problems if both it seems as well.

Striker has literally no problem getting in. Her shoulder tackle alone completely stuffs most attacks and wall bounces for a combo. Her slide kick reaches from dumb far and is a great punish since it converts easily. Also she actually does quite a lot of damage but she is a combo reliant character, she will never win in single hit trades. She wants to get you open to start a combo and end in to pressure to chain a new combo. This is especially the case once she’s awakened. Her awakening effectively removes combo scaling and gives her almost a full tod and wall to wall carry. But again this is combo reliant and if you don’t have a bnb down for her launchers then she feels like a low damage character.

But also, as a Grappler player: Charge Tackle, Donkey Kick with armor, I just grab you out the air. COUNTER! Me, playing Crusader: "I'm sorry, but did God SAY you could play?" Me, also using Vanguard: "I'm you but with more range and meterless 40 hit combos off a single convert." Ranger: "Bang~" This isn't even getting into how Enchantress, Mechanic and Trouble Shooter are probably going to play like.

Rush punch has quite the limited ranged from what I remember so really Spinning kick is the best way if done correctly. Still I think her potential is lower when compared to other characters.

I played striker exclusively for this beta for this reason actually. I figured I’d challenge myself by playing her and now I main her. Striker is one of those “keep me out while u can, cause if u don’t and I start cookin, u don’t get to play for the rest of the game” type characters. The shoulder charge alone goes not only projectiles, but projectile based moves as well. This actually includes ALL off Ghostblades ghost attacks for some reason. Divekick is a move your opponents are forced to respect cause they either have to avoid it, know for sure it’s coming and counter, or sit and block which is a scary thing to do when Strikers 2s is a combo starter. Her uppercut dp can actually be used as a combo starter counter because using another special b4 u leave the ground cancels the jump part and leads into said special, meaning that you essentially have an invincible combo starter. At this point Striker has more than enough ability to get in, it’s just question of where….

@@fatbroccoli8 it’s instantaneous-ness doesn’t help when an opponent is directly in front of you already doing a move and you get hit even though you just activated it in that same second, now I’ve never been a studier of frames but I think it would be more manageable for there to be at least one or two frames of invincibility so you aren’t completely open to a counter combo string if you activate it when an opponent’s move is about to connect with your body. I’m not just saying this because I had a bad experience but because it once looked like my opponent should have hit me with one (I’m referring to the cinematic move that takes place in a barren wasteland) but I instead got the upper hand, I believe if anything my move should have passed through them even though they whiffed it and I did not get hit ( I think that would be considered us staying in or going back into neutral?) but yeah an ultimate leaves you completely open. I think my reason for talking about this can boil down to the fact that there isn’t any clashes between two attacks, as seen in the video ( I also slowed down the playback speed of the video to see if I was correct) where Ghostblade’s 3 hit heavy attack’s third slash was in motion but Hitman’s half screen slash was also in motion, where instead of neither party getting hurt Ghostblade lost and got hit giving Hitman the upper hand at the time of impact. The part I’m talking about is around the 2:30 to 2:50 mark of the video. Does any of this stuff make sense or am I being too confusing? Please let me know and thanks for reading this far. Mostly I just think it’s too early to ask for changes like that until ranked matches are a thing so we can see what is happening because of skill gaps and what is just unfair

This game bring forth every class capabilities to the point of busted, other fighting games need to follow this example

Grappler is the perfect avatar for me. Not just in this game but most fighting games. You got people flying around with dragons, ghosts, guns, and everything in between, but he's just a guy... That's how I feel trying to play these games. People using staircase combos, re jumps, rapid cancels, crazy oki set ups.. And I'm just trying to land a simple 3-hit combo and play footsies😅

Ghost blade is just "Chip damage" the character. The Ghost is what deals the real damage. Grappler... I mean, how can you chip with grabs

Ghost being able to teleport to the ghost means he may have way nore chances to open people up so he does less to compensate

They definitely have something in store for us considering how long the game is taking to release. The first beta was in December alongside KOF 15 yet KOF has already released just two months after the beta while DnF duel is having us wait 6 months. For a fighting game that’s way too long of a wait window so there needs to be a reason for the wait, I would be disappointed if they gave us nothing for waiting this long lol.

So let me get this right.....your special moves do more damage if you depleted your meter with them? Is that what this 'critical hit' thing means?

Special moves remove the receiver's white health on hit, preventing them from healing it back. Ideally, you want to finish your combo with a special move.

Both are good. Ghost blade has some fatal drawbacks for how good he is though. He has no quick counter/opener like a dp or anything so you really have to commit yourself.

It feels like they should make the block button lock you in a direction and have it so you need to repress the button to block on the other side.

I disagree. The way it currently works is that you can use the block button, but your guard gage will be depleted faster than holding back. If you have to press it again everytime they switch direction, why wouldn't people just hold back instead?

After seeing some replies I would replace the suggestion with just adding a perfect block function if they lack it right now. I can't think of a proper caveat for the mechanic.

Striker needs a Buff, from what it looks like, every Character (except maybe Grappler) has more Range than her and also does more dmg and the only Character. And her Mobility also doesn't seem that great to make up for the lack of range.

I’d also add that her gap closers, 2M and 6H, have way more end lag than they should for the range they have. No reason they should leave her more vulnerable than Vanguard and Inquisitor normals 🤣

I'll be honest... I cringed quite a bit as a Striker main, seeing that one Striker not really getting the combos needed, or the hard knockdown in the corner, or the jump heavy otg oki.

Its crazy to me that they don't have local vs mode. 4 people passing a controller to fight randos online isn't ideal.
