Gouki/Akuma is my favorite character in the Street Fighter universe, just like Ryu, he was a warrior looking for self improvement to become the strongest fighter, when he found out that the only way to master his style was to give in to the Satsui no Hado to get more power he chose to do it and was the first and only one to control that power without being completely consumed by it. If you take out the "demonic fighter" part of him, he is a really hardworking and honest man, he had to struggle in life to get something and never complained, he respects those who live honestly and work accordingly and despises those who take shortcuts or find and "easy way" in life. In combat he abides to the warrior code, which means he only fights to test and improve his skills and his opponent's, he will never kill unless both parts had agreed to a fight to the death and is willing to praise those who prove to be worthy to be called fighters (he even praised Sakura when she attacked him without feeling fear or hesitation, saying that what she did was something that fits those who choose to follow the path of a warrior). I wish that Capcom would work more on him as an important character for the story of Street Fighter, he is usually that one powerfull fighter that no one can defeat and serves as a reminder that Ryu still has a long way to go if he wants to become the strongest.

As I see it, Akuma had mastered the style. But he wished for more. He didn't want just to push the style to its limits, he wanted to push his own power to its limits. And he accomplished that by not giving in to the Satsui no Hadou, but rather embracing it and turning it into his strength rather than his weakness. I like to think of Oni as an Akuma that let the Hadou completely consume him, causing for him to lose most of his technique and mastery but gain incredible power. And I like to think of Shin Akuma as an Akuma that has perfected his craft and become the best of both worlds, mastering both his technique _and_ his power.

Funnily enough I found it as the video started buffering in THAT exact moment, but in 3:49, you can actually see Akuma's face, but that is because the palette was quickly glitched/incorrect for some reason (Everything is black and brown, just like Blanka is also black and white in another way).

SSFII Turbo had a much harder AI than any of the other Street fighter games. The learning curve was steep in 1994 to get the patterns right. In the end we finally made it to Akuma...so worth it.

Glad to hear so many others recall the AI as pretty tough. Though I only had the original version with an 8 fighter roster, I remember pushing myself to beat the game on max difficulty with each player. But in hind sight, I couldn't tell if the AI was actually hard, or if it was just because this was my introduction to the SF franchise and I was age 6 - 9. I could throw down some good gaming at that age but, my fundamentals were definitely more rudimentary.

jumpsteady1999 Awesome comment!! I was 21 when SSF2T came out. By then I had mastered all of the Street Fighter series up until then. Back when "Gamepro" magazine was about something, we read about the changes and was psyched to see the new color swaps like Ken in a white gi and the new added animations, like Ken's short and forward kicks as well as new punch animations for Ryu, ansd the hint of a secret similar to the one that was an April fool's joke about Sheng Long. Well we got it at the arcade and I barely got to the second character. However, I lost interest because the SNK and newer Capcom games were getting my attention like Samurai Showdown, Art of Fighting, Darkstalkers, and Fatal Fury 2. Those games mentioned were the ones that people were playing. So we decided to get $5 worth of tokens and go at it. The arcade we went to did 5 tokens for a dollar, so we were practicing to get to Akuma and we did. It costs us about $10 bucks total in the end but to see Akuma come out when we got to Bison's stage, and having the crowd file over to see the commotion, well that was priceless.

He was still an early concept character at the time with no story and origin yet so Capcom didn't give him a name or identity. In Super Street Fighter II Turbo, he was created by Capcom to pay homage to the EGM Sheng Long hoax that they did where you can fight the said secret fighter by playing through Street Fighter II Arcade Mode without ever losing a match up until you get to M. Bison. Yes this is his first game but his identity wasn't reveal until the Street Fighter Alpha series. Both this game and his appearance in X-Men: Children of the Atom depict him as an anonymous character with no character arts and identity though in Children of the Atom he was given super combos.

Great idea can't for wait for the next video :) Actually, there is a version of Gouki/Akuma which has super meter and double air hadokens. It is playable on the Dreamcast version of Super Street Fighter 2 X - for Matching Service - through Dip Switches option menu. The dip switch options will make you able to play both Shin Gouki (arcade boss version) and Tien Gouki which is even more powerful and with a super meter (yup... Shun Goku Satsu) . Gouki normal version is "nerfed" compared to these two versions. Btw ending translation : "Evil emperor, you say... nothing more than words. Real Victory can only come from a fist. That is all."

I thought this was going to be about fighting against Akuma (as the replacement to M. Bison / Vega as the final boss). The familiar venue, but the music was different as Bison was ambushed and you went against a different character with more epic music. I recall reading the old Usenet, where "SF2 rulez, MK2 droolz" threads mentioned that Akuma was a new set of sprites, and not just Ryu/Ken with a wig, unlike the palette-swap ninjas in MK2.

Everyone knows Shin Akuma from Street Fighter Alpha 2 was the most OP incarnation in the series. You like single downward fireballs? He has double downward fireballs standard and a super downward fireball. He has both short and long range ports, drop kick, air roll/throw, 3 supers and Death (in it's fastest form). They neutered him after that.

The mid-air Hadouken was taken from Geese Howard‘s Shippuken (Fatal Fury Special). Fatal Fury 2 featured Desperation Moves way before SSF2T came up with supers. To NEOGEO fans those had been no new gimmicks.
