This was the debut magic system right? It's a pretty robust learning curve and there's a lot of ins and outs. This game sports so much detail it's a shame so many people don't notice the good stuff. Like Omega Red / Wolverine special tech animations. OTG throws was pretty sweet for an idea as well. I loved all of Colossus' throws. There's even different animations throwing different weight classes.

I remember in SSB Melee there was a April fools joke in some video game magazine where you could unlock Sonic and Tails but you had to go through Cruel Melee and get I think 21 kills. I did it with Fox after NUMEROUS attempts. It was the most grueling shit I had ever done up to that point. I spent DAYS and a busted controller after coming so close a couple of times with only 1 or 2 kills to go only to find out after having succeeded that it was all bullshit. I still felt proud that I was able to kill that many especially since none of my other friends or people I talked to were able to do it.

I'm always amazed by this games amount of attention to detail to the X-men franchise and the quality of the animations. It's definitely a work of comic book gaming art. Also, very interesting sprites in this version of Akuma. Makes me wonder why it was never used again.

This game has got the most most fucked-up, unbeatable AI I've ever encountered in any Capcom game. As the video here shows, the computer will just block every single thing you throw at it. That's weird that you didn't go on to fight Magneto after Jugernaught though Max - I finished this on the Saturn with Akuma and fought Magneto (took me like an entire extremely frustrating hour to beat him, nearly smashed my pad to pieces more than once during it).

All fighting game AI on highest difficulty had a pattern that's EASILY exploited once you figure it out to the point that you could beat the game in minutes if you knew how each character AI worked. That's the problem with playing against a computer in a game that's primarily meant for you to play against other humans.

Magneto is usually the final boss...you might have to play through without continuing to fight him as the final boss? Also if you beat the game without losing a round you'll get end credits with the defeated opponents scrolling through the credits...I played this game extensively in the arcades in 95, and later on the Saturn. Also another fun fact, the Akuma illustration in the thumbnail was originally scanned in by me in 95. It was part of a 3DO supplement that was included with an issue of EGM. I had to (poorly) edit out the words covering his pony tail(whatever it is) portion of his hair.

They never ported Children of the Atom, X-Men vs Street fighter, Marvel Super Heroes, MVC.... The only thing that was ported was the MVC2 on the PS2. But thats besides the point. I find it really inconvenient to have a ton of consoles plugged into my TV just so I can enjoy a few titles plus you need to spend a ton of money of VGA Boxes and shit for the Dreamcast to look good on HDTVs.

Yeah my brother tried that Resident evil 2 Akuma unlock. He was pretty mad it didnt work. He loved resident evil 2 like crazy. All that hard work for false unlock. btw Thanos/marvel super heroes is pretty easy to beat compared to cheap Shin Magneto. Especially when magneto does the forcefield that lasts forever. the legend Not saying Max isn't skillful enough...it's just Magneto is too broken for a beginner to defeat. He gathers X-power at random. Plus that "Asphalt beam" (not seen in any other game) has tracking. To make it worst...his hyper-bands can't be blocked. Add that force field, magnetic tempest at will and the full screen shockwave that takes a HP worth of chip damage...he's going to have one hell of a rage fit.

Here the strategy to beating Magneto. First Akuma must throw wp air fireballs to push him in a corner. You have to time them so Magneto blocks high. As soon as he blocks high, you have to dash up on him and sweep kick him (crouching HK). As he tries to floor roll to get up...start combo'ing the fxck out of him until he gets dizzy. Repeat this pattern until he is finished. Beware of the force field and when he taunt laughs...be prepared for his shockwave.
