Johnny is about 80% of all kombat league matches right now. He’s just without question the best character in the game now, especially if you pair him with kung Lao or sareena kameo. The vast majority of his attacks are safe on block and he has the most mixups of anyone I’ve seen. If you aren’t horrible at the basics of the game, Johnny let’s you put unstoppable pressure on people and just gets such easy damage. And with the nitro kick being as good as it is Johnny doesn’t even need a projectile to cover that aspect. It blows my mind he didn’t get touched in the last patch. NRS has to remove the plus on block from the majority of his attacks if they want to balance him out with the rest of the cast.

@@firelizard42 Tag games seem to get it a lot worse with what I’ve seen if Marvel and DBFZ. Strive was doing pretty well before Happy Chaos, and even then there were still a decent handful of characters that can compete. Ken and JP are the biggest things in SF6, but there’s still other characters popping up in Top 8’s. Meanwhile NRS is still going to be figuring out this game for the next few years unless it dies before they hoped it would. I still remember the discrepancy between all the good fatal blows and random pointless ones at the beginning of MK11.

@@cylondorado4582 just like how you mentioned Ken and JP in SF6, there’s top characters but there are still some other ones that make comp placings. while yes at the first major we saw a bunch of cyrax, that’s a balance change away from not being seen as much, and even then, there was more Kung Lao Kameo than not. People underestimated Rain and Ashrah and they made high placings. Kitana is Foxy Grandpa’s online main and he gets really good results against top players. You’re just tunnel visioned on the combos that are the most obnoxious rather than the creative shit other people come up with when they use non-top tiers.

Johnathan Carlton is practically a walking safety blanket. •6f d1 •9f mid that's safe •Several strings which just aren't punishable period •Command dash with certain invulnerabilities that basically used to be MK9/X Smoke's move except Smoke is in this game and he doesn't even have that •2f parry that activates the command dash •Unique mechanic where he just gets to play a totally different game from anybody else in the roster •Fatal Blow that's beyond busted even if it was an X-Ray and still took meter as its either a hit, an unblockable hit at full charge, a parry before full charge, and/or a free escape if you try to get behind him and yet it comes back in like 5 seconds ready to mess with your head again This has to be the most forgiving character to play in the whole game and considering he didn't even get directly touched this patch, there's gotta be some favoritism goin on behind the scenes that even Scorpion would be jealous of.

Johnny can’t fight in the mid range we’ll just shadow kick and if he hits you you’re back full screen where he definitely can’t fight….. if you duck it or block it full combo punish. I’ll take the time to teach you some things about the game that will 100% help you make Johnny look like he needs buffs. 1. Play Tanya or Sindel….. play mid range and watch Johnny players struggle and start desperately shadow kicking 2. EVERY single overhead Johnny has is easily reactable. Block low react to overheads. 3. Oh his down 1 is good you say? This is a UNIVERSAL mechanic across the game. If he throws a string and tries to check you low…… block it return your down 1 and now he’s JAILED. He stands up and you get to throw your high string for free and he has to block or get full combod Again this is UNIVERSAL. If you do these things and get good at them. You’ll see that Johnny absolutely needs to have the things he has because without them he’d be unplayable. No I suggest you try those things then come back after you’ve dominated 10 trash Johnnys and tell me I was right. The problem is guys like doing combos but don’t actually like learning the game or trying to adapt to the person they are playing against play style.

Good try tho. 2) No you won't. 3) "Just a pick bad MU and you'll see why he'd need buffs" This line of reasoning is idiotic as it applies to anyone. Also, you're character-locked in ranked and you can just get counterpicked in tournament since winner can't swap. Did you even try to think this thru? 4) Overhead being reactable doesn't change the fact that with the right kameo he can just catch you with a 50-50. The first Johnny in the vid could do that with Frost and, surprise surprise, Kung Lao hat can set up the same thing since it hits low with varying timings. 5) Down 1 being good isn't a problem. It's the fact that his is literally faster than everybody else's and that discourages trying to push buttons against him because he naturally has frame advantage. Since that threat is always looming overhead, those moments of hesitation are all he needs to try again with something else. Plus, even if you jail him, guess what he has? That's right. A 2f parry/command dash that he can use against any gap in your string when you try to apply your own offense/pressure. 6) If he's unplayable without everything that I listed then he's got a dogshit design and the devs should reconsider how he works. 7) I'm not coming back to a YT comment to say "you're right" because that's not what normal people do. 8) Saying people only wanna learn combos like Johnny isn't also super popular at top level play where its not just combos that matter is RICH. What's also rich is assuming that the average Johnny player also doesn't just learn combos and go into a match like every other lower level player. The only difference is that Johnny players also get every chance in the world to be free from any sort of danger with just a little bit of brain power. With all due respect, don't ever open your mouth about this again. For as much as you claim to know, you are incredibly ignorant of what can happen in this game, and the fact you said all that with your chest speaks volumes.

You should try some havik with either striker or sub. Sub in my opinion is the best allowing you to zone and good combo damage. Cyrax gives the most damage easily, but striker can give really crazy damage but it can be difficult.

He pretty much is lol. Only things unsafe is the Huge kick like Max puts it and if he completes the F124 string and almost all his special moves. His 50/50 is not as amazing as many think it is though. His 21 string into overhead or low can be fuzzy blocked (low comes out faster so you can quickly block low and high again and your good). He overall also has a lot of highs so using a character with a decent ranged footsie can basically stop his nonsense since all he has are highs, reactable overheads and one pretty fast mid. Not downplaying him at all though. His kit is super good even if it can highly get stomped by mashing and spacing.
