I like how less discipline Ken fights in this game, he feels more like a Street Fighter (OHHHHHHHHH!!!) than a martial artists. But you can still see glimpses of the old Ken in his moves.

He incorporates more moves you'd probably see a boxer or wrestler would use, especially seen in his grabs and throws, his forward through in particular. It seems less homogeneous and more taking what he knows and improvising the rest.

I like how the body language of the shotos differ so much. Ken looks technical, like he really understands his arts and how to use it in a fight as a part of his personality; ehile Ryu takes a more self-contained approach, like the techniques were just a external expression of a philosophy. I don't know, maybe I'm just hyped

As an outsider who doesn’t know the “lore” of street fighter it seems like that for me as well. For me Ryu seems like he’s made martial arts a core part of his life and constantly hones, trains, and reflects on his martial art and sort of seems like he’s attaining some sort of dao from them. For ken it seems like he does hone his craft but he doesn’t internalize like ryu as a sort of path to walk down on, but rather externalizes it as like an art, sorta like how people who’ve been through some stuff externalize it as art or music. Now I don’t know the back stories but it seems like they’re just two sides of the same coin maybe I’m right about them having some tragic backstory or I could be wrong but it just feels like the two characters are mirrors of the ways that martial arts are expressed through two different people way differently. But idk maybe I’m way over analyzing a video game cause it’s 4 am and I’m delusional.

@@EliasExists You're actually about right - Ken and Ryu use the same martial art and were trained by the same man, but where Ken is unimaginably talented but prefers to spend his time with his family, Ryu has basically devoted his entire life to becoming the greatest fighter of all time. That's why Ken has a flashy, stylised arsenal, where Ryu, lacking his fellow student's talent but making up for through sheer discipline and effort, has a simpler, but extremely versatile kit that basically defines huge swathes of fighting game history - if you've ever heard the term "shotoclone", it refers to someone from a fighting game who copies Ryu's moveset.

@@EliasExists Yeah it's called the Ansatsuken (Assasination Fist). It's normally lethal to an unhinged degree, (see Akuma) but Gouken, the man Ryu and Ken trained under, reformed it into a non lethal fighting style and taught that form to them.

Can I just point something dumb out that I randomly geeked for? At 0:38 they skipped guiles intro where he's looking at his watch, but when the camera shifted he was still looking at his watch. Then it had a seamless transition animation into his fighting stand even though his intro got interrupted. I just find little animation quirks like that to satisfying.

The intro cameras being built that way makes a lot of sense because it allows for a bit of interaction while the level loads. It then deactivates and likely reactivates for the supers. From what I have seen it appears the characters themselves aren't even captured by the same camera, it's two separate cameras that composite together so tbh the match cameras could be the same. Just a guess... But each match probably has 2-4 cameras dedicated to characters, then perhaps 1-2 dedicated to capturing just the level background. I think this method makes rendering more performant.

One of the best additions they’ve made as QoL change for spectators is having the names of the characters on screen during the fight. It makes it so nice not having to rewatch a video like, 3 times trying to figure out who this cool looking character is (I’ve never really been into street fighter)

@@jadenquest9544 To be fair, Goku actually liked his friends. Saiyan culture was pretty fucked up. Vegeta's problem with the murder of his world and people always seemed to be less that they died and more that someone had dared to destroy things he thought belonged to him. He seemed to reach Super Saiyan purely through his frustrated prideful rage that a "lesser" Saiyan got there first. It took many years for him to care about someone other than himself.

And it's interesting in general how this game gives you so many active defensive options, but simultaneously punishes you for just pure turtling. I may be one for hyperbole, but Street Fighter 6 might shape up to be THE Genre Defining Game for the forseeable future, they way Tekken 3 became the standard late 90s, and Street Fighter 2 did in the early 90's. It seems to have everything, and even more stuff planned out.

yeah its pretty nuts how much is being put into the game. It has the accessibility and quality of life features that rivals Skullgirls and then some with great netcode, The best of both worlds of standardized push and play matchmaking along with being the best version of an Arcsys lobby, amazing presentation and incredibly good gameplay AND a full ass single player mode with a create a character that embarrasses most triple A games on the market.
