Evo is esports’ most iconic tournament.
With a nearly 30-year legacy and the largest open brackets in gaming, winning Evo is the highest, and hardest, achievement in the fighting game community.
But at Evo 2024's Tekken 8 tournament, Arslan Ash, the best Tekken 7 player of all time, was looking for more than his fifth trophy. He was looking for direction, to prove he could adapt, to prove he could win, no matter what.
Tekken has changed. Evo has changed. The fighting game community has changed.
And if Arslan wanted to be the best in the world, he’d have to change too, and risk everything.

What I love more about him that he came and completely disturbed the monopoly of S.Korea on Tekken, and competition is always good. Because of him, a whole crop of excellent Pakistani Tekken gems like Atif, Khan etc followed and now the Tekken scene has become a lot more lively with healthy rivalries.

not only that, he also inspired a whole country's scene to travel and get exposure look at his training partner and friend ATIF, without him taking that leap of faith in 2019 we probably wouldn't have seen other guys from Tekkikistan hit the scene. Currently out of the top 20 earners in esports tournaments in Tekken 8 5 are from Pakistan. Pretty remarkable to compete vs Koreans and Japanese with way less resources.

Thus he called for the creation of a new state for the muslims of the subcontinent. I remember when Arslan came on the scene and all I was hearing about was how a Pakistani kid was breaking up the dominance of Korea at the pro level. Then he won the world championship. He dethroned knee as the best player in the world, and frankly he made it look easy. Arslan was dominant like I’ve never seen, his pressure game was just simply unstoppable. Arslan was all that anyone was talking about. The moment we saw his play, we all knew we were witnessing the beginning of a new era. He was so good that people had to question whether or not the opponent was giving their all, because he made these players that we’d accepted as tekken gods look didn’t even belong in a match with him. It was jarring to watch a literal child come out of a nowhere from a country that wasn’t Korea, then dust everyone in sight. I don’t know if people who didn’t play back then fully comprehend just how dominant Korea was. We’d kind of all just accepted that the top level of tekken was for Koreans only, Arslan gave us hope that you don’t have to be a Korean to win worlds lol
