Crazy how the Jetta gli is the "affordable 30k car, while here in Brazil this car is seen as a top of the luxury for medium sedans, going for over 240.000 BRL. Roughly 170 months of minimum wage salary.

I purchased a 2024 40th Anniversary Edition Manual GLI back in March 2024 for $28.5K and I absolutely love it. Cannot say enough good things about it, closing in on 10K miles now! Easily my favorite car ever. I can fit my 2 young children in car seats and wife in here with no problems. Love it for daily commutes and shorter road trips (6 hours or less).

I have a 2024 autobahn GLI 6spd. I can tell you first hand this thing is amazing and so fun to drive. 34mpg and plenty of power for my daily commuter.

I had a 40AE GLI briefly last year. It was a great car but I ended up letting it go for a GTI 380. In the end I liked the smaller footprint of the GTI more and it’s a little more nimble. My only real gripes with the GTI are the lack of climate buttons and the missing physical handbrake.

To get rid of one of those gripes for people, I drive a 21 GLI and have driven it through several 12+ hours road trips, the seats are not bad. His other issues are fair, including the sound system being subpar. Otherwise, I really appreciate this review and think this video is well done. Will look into your vids when replacing my spouses car. My GLI stays in the family 👍🏻.

I love the GLI. How many new cars are there that are loaded with leather seats well under 40k that are not a cvt or hybrid or aren't full blown performance cars with stiff suspension? This is the only car I can think of that fits that. Normal cars are gone.

I may have to review the manual for this VW GLI, but I seen other reviewers. They stated that the VW GLI does not recommend the 91/93 octane gas. As the Honda Si does.

Using the clutch, even in stop-and-go traffic, is not a lot of work. The GLI's clutch is not at all heavy. After a while, you'll find yourself pressing the clutch without even thinking about it, no different from pressing the brake pedal. And in stop-and-go traffic, you're always in first gear. It's really not hard. Always go for the manual when it's offered, which is rare nowadays.

Re: Power Seats My enthusiast POV for a GLI is to purposefully have manual seats (lighter) for its intended more sporty purpose. A Wolfsburg ed. or some higher trim should have the power seats.

Nice car. Not as good to drive as rivals like the Elantra N and Civic SI but definitely the better all-rounder. That can be fixed though with some simple mods and the Jetta is on the same MQB platform as cars like the Golf and S3 making them very tuneable. Thank you for another well made review!

Would love to know how this compares against a Civic SI or Elantra N. All around the same price points (in that 30-40k range). Been looking at a Civic heavily but this VW has some very nice "luxury" features that steers it away from the Civic.

Will be driving the Civic Si next week! As I remember it, the GLI does have a quieter, more upscale cabin and the ride quality is slightly more supple. The Civic is much more enjoyable to drive quickly, though.

The manual is practical in the suburbs or rural areas, but not in cities. It has no rev matching and rowing 6 speeds is quite tedious in traffic. I’d opt for the DSG, which is unfortunately not very reliable.
