All of Miley's albums follow her actual life events. When she was partying with Wayne Coyne, you got Dead Pets. When she was engaged to be married and past her rebellious stage, you got Younger Now. After divorcing, you got She Is Coming.

This was definitely a different discography to explore but it was a lot of fun at the same time. Some of the albums had some of my lowest ratings but I'm still glad I did it. I love when you guys occasionally do something a little more unexpected like this, shakes things up and leads to some really fun discussions. I ended up listening to both halves of the debut and yes, Meet Miley Cyrus is definitely the better half haha. 7. Can’t Be Tamed - 1 (2.3) 6. Bangerz - 1.5 (2.7) 5. Breakout - 1.5 (3.2) 4. Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz - 2 (3.9) (would definitely be higher if it was shorter, I agree) 3. Meet Miley Cyrus - 2.5 (5.2) 2. Younger Now - 3 (5.9) 1. Plastic Hearts - 3.5 (7.5)

for Dead Petz, Miley’s label said the album was too long and they would no longer finance it or release / promote it. So, miley added even more songs and surprised dropped it for free under her own record label “Smiley Miley Records”.

Good on you guys for daring to go where most of the channel's faithful didn't think you would....not taking part of course, not my universe but, i think it's great what you're doing. Miley Cyrus and her music means absolutely diddly squat to me but she does mean alot to some out there and if they somehow get hooked onto this channel and start to discover classic rock and alternative forms of music away from that world , that is a good thing ( and to be fair to Ms. Cyrus, she pays a lot of respect to classic rock and doesn't dismiss it as antiquated boomer music , like some of the zoomer generation do. Let's bridge that generation gap people !

so as a DIE HARD miley fan I have to say it was pretty ruthless hearing some of my favourite songs / albums being dissected and criticised, but that’s what album reviews are about .. and i have to say on the whole you both make some really interesting points. I was going to shut the video when you both seemed really unenthusiastic about listening to her but I stayed to see where you placed Dead Petz as it’s often her most hated album by fans, but it’s my favourite .. and then I stayed out of curiosity haha. There is a lot of backstory to these albums which I think helps to know. For example, you both give Cant Be Tamed a lot of flack but Miley released that while she was still contracted with Disney and they effectively blacklisted her for it. It’s nice to hear some positives about Younger Now as it is entirely self written and self produced with the help of one co-producer. Miley’s label forbid her to release Dead Petz and she was so determined to drop it that she threatened to leave her contract with RCA, they also demanded it be shorter so she added more songs in protest. Hearing “Maybe You’re Right” described as filler was painful 😭.. I think Drive and Someone Else from Bangerz are both masterpieces. Miley has been continually sabotaged by her record label and so after Plastic Hearts, she terminated her contract with RCA and has since signed to Columbia Records I’m so excited about where she goes next. I hope you’ll both listen to her new album whenever it drops, I love that she never does the same thing twice, music wise. :)

Plastic Hearts is a well intended & fairly decent affair. Several surprise guests appear. If you listened to it without the bias of knowing it's her you would find it an acceptable rock album. Not exceptional but moving in a positive direction. Excellent throwback cover.

I like Miley Cyrus a lot, though probably because I grew up watching Hannah Montana. I like her as a person more than her music, but she has great songs. Miley really needs to lean more into her pop rock/power pop side. Whenever she does rock-oriented songs, they're usually the highlights of her albums. Her voice is really suited towards harder rock even. I could easily see her being a glam rocker - give her some Mott the Hoople or Slade-style songs to do with those big anthemic choruses and loud guitars and she'd crush it.

The week we've all been waiting for... Miley Cyrus albumz ranked and rated: #7 Breakout [2008] (5.2) ⭐⭐½ #6 Meet Miley Cyrus [2007] (5.5) ⭐⭐½ [Ep] She Is Coming [2019] (5.9) ⭐⭐⭐ #5 Bangerz [2013] (6.2) ⭐⭐⭐ #4 Can't Be Tamed [2010] (6.4) ⭐⭐⭐ [Ep] The Time of Our Lives [2009] (6.9) ⭐⭐⭐½ #3 Younger Now (7.2) [2017] ⭐⭐⭐½ #2 Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz (7.7) ⭐⭐⭐½ #1 Plastic Hearts [2020] (7.9) ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Average ⭐⭐⭐1/6 I did like her music overall better than I thought I would. Given that I'm pretty ambivalent to Disney pop, I was expecting those albums to be her best and the rest to be painfully bad. The fact that both her Disney pop albums are 2½ means they are in the upper echelon of Disney pop and pretty consistently meh. As far as for the rest... there's is a ton of absolute crap on all of them. But on each of the albums, there was enough good tracks that evened out the bad. Plastic Hearts had the best Good to crap track ratio. (But the fact I rated it a 7.9 means it's holding on to that 4star rating by a little more than a thread) I might have liked the Dead Petz album better of it was just the Flaming Lips produced song and left the rest to be a lesser album of its own. Would have still been a low 4 star album, but higher than Plastic Hearts. I'm kinda a low level sucker for the Wayne Coyne psychedelic pop style.

7. Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz - 1.0/5 6. Can't Be Tamed - 1.0/5 5. Bangerz - 1.5/5 4. Younger Now - 1.5/5 3. Hannah Montana 2 / Meet Miley Cyrus - 2.0/5 2. Breakout - 2.0/5 1. Plastic Hearts - 2.5/5 Dead Petz has some good production, and that's it. Miley's vocals are a mess. Even on the less explicit tracks, the lyrics suck. Most songs could have been 2-3 minutes shorter. I understand why so many non-Miley fans like the album best, but it's not good. Yes, true, it was initially released for free on Soundcloud. But then they did eventually release it to paid streaming. The only difference being some tracks were moved around. Otherwise, they're the same. Note: Hannah Montana 2 / Meet Miley Cyrus was released as a split. It's been separated into 2 releases for streaming. I didn't count any of the Hannah songs for my top 10 songs list. I did, however, consider the Hannah side when ranking the albums.

Miley in not bad and has charm and a likeable presence. I like when she covers bands as Crowded House, Led Zep, Dylan, Mazy Star, Stones (Wild Horses), The Cure (Boys dont cry). She sometime contributes lyrics and they are pretty decent. Malibu (lyrics) is a nice song and Miley's faces, body movements is filmed in both an innocent and sexy way and is reminiscent of Mariah Carey's Dreamlover (my fav song by her). How about everyone's top ten songwriters sometime?

I agree. I love Miley and her voice, but her music is ok. Not bad at all! If anyone were take the crown from Madonna, I honestly think it would have been her with the shock antics. I didn't care for her stuff at first. I thought that her debut stuff was pretty cheesy. I remember that my first few years in college, she released "7 Things" and that actually seemed to do quite well on the radio. I was shocked, but thought it was decent. Her music has been consistent-not as much dance pop, alot more ballad driven. But it's cool with me. My rankings for her would 1) Can't be Tamed 2) Younger Now- the hits off of it really surprised me and 3) the time of our lives.

Plus, she's got a crazy husky speaking voice. I love all her later era albums; I guess from Bangerz on. She's not so much an album artist. Her individual albums might all have their theme; but IMO the overall songs usually don't hold up all the way through. But like with many other artists who have conviction, and are head strong, this will carry them through. PS I just realized that it's kind of an Aerosmith clip: Joey Kramer.

The Grimm's adaptations were shown regularly on TV but I knew the original stories from my German grandmother who lived with us...no chance for Disney's rose coloured imitations. Some time in the 1990s I was in Orlando on some business for a couple of days and somehow someone convinced me to visit Disney World. I could not figure out why people spend time and money to go there. In short, Disney and me never connected. Sorry, Hannah Montana, whoever you are. My Miley Cyrus ranking Please don’t “Hate me” 7. Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz - 1.5/5 - I don’t use this word lightly, but this just sounds so pretentious. I love The Flaming Lips a lot, but I just can’t take this. It comes off so self-important, like it’s some experimental/psychedelic gem. In fact, it’s like: Look at me, I smoke weed and have sex and I’m cooler than you because of it, yuck. Bangerz also has that annoying teenager attitude, but it has much better songs. Guess she went through that phase a little bit later. I don’t know how Kram got it so high when he is the lyrics guy of the channel (if I’m not mistaken), and here lyrics are trash. Also, it’s just plain boring, the production is only mildly interesting at some points and, I agree at least with something, it’s way too long. I also agree there’s always at least one good song and her that’s “Karen don’t be sad”, and “Lighter” is okay. 6. Can't Be Tamed - 2.5/5 I agree that it’s just generic “free of Disney” kind of record and has a lot of Lady gaga and Britney Spears. Yeah, it’s bland, but the songs aren’t nearly that bad, except for “Every rose has its thorns”. I don’t like Poison, but that cover is even worse. “Two more lonely people” rules though. 5. Bangerz - 2.5-3/5 - I’m split between 2.5 and 3 because there are some really good songs (like “Adore you”, “Wrecking ball”, “FU”), but also a lot of crap and bad production. I don’t think hip hop really suits her at all. And of course, it’s too long. 4. Meet Miley Cyrus - 3/5 - A good pop/pop punk record for teenagers. “East Northumberland high” is perfect teenage pop tune. Like Joe, I didn’t know the other record even existed. Looks like it’s supposed to be double album, but I guess Disney has the rights to Hannah Montana stuff, so it isn’t in Miley’s discography, at least on Spotify 3. Breakout - 3/5 - almost the same as Meet Miley, but more good songs. Love the “Fly on the wall” comment, I think it’s better than anything Muse ever did. 2. Younger Now - 3.5/5 - I remember it being far more country than it is. There isn’t even that much country influence on it for the most part, it’s just a pop album. But a good one though, all the songs are good, but not great. Standouts are “Bad mood” and “Thinkin’”. 1. Plastic Hearts - 5/5 - this record just hits all the sweet spots for me. It’s an 80s sounding pop rock album with some almost hard rock leanings, great vocals, great guests, great songwriting, … I don’t mind the influences; I think they make it even better. Apart from the obvious 80s influence, I also hear the 60s, like “Sympathy for the devil” in the intro to “Plastic hearts” and kind of “In my life” melody in “Angels like you”. On this record her voice finally shines through in all its grittiness. Was my album of the year in 2020. I don’t normally post my lists because it’s difficult for me to explain why I like certain artists/albums, but in this case, I have strong opinions and apparently quite different to yours. I should also note that this is my second run-through. When I listened to Plastic Hearts in 2020, I liked it so much I checked out her discography. I didn’t think much of it then, but my ratings slightly improved this time. Also, I’m a lot younger than you.

Very interesting comments. I resent the Muse dig, of course. I would say Dead Petz is less pretentious than anything Flaming Lips have ever done, however. - Joe

Generic, competent pop that sounds like it could be used as background for a scene in the Pretty Little Liars reboot.

"All the artists" but said they won't touch "Alternative or indie?" Miley...really? Where's RIDE, Chapterhouse, or any great 90's UK indie. Not as great as Miley. USA I guess.🙄

Appealing to a broader base Ah definitely understand......BUT, egalitarianism, altruism....these only lead to what is base and brutish in civilization. Fear becoming a dumbed down school system..... Ah'll still look forward to your work every week.

Not an artist I like at all. Mostly, I just don't like her vocals. I see her as someone who got famous because of connections and not because of her own talent. And my towering hatred for Party in the USA (apparently on an EP) does blind me. That said, Joe made a great case for a lot of this. Well spoken. It's music, so I say cover it!
