Always nice to have a week off! Nothing against Miley (I'm sure she has some good songs) but I spent the week revisiting Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush, as well as some of my favorite bands of the 2000s- Flaming Lips, Metric, Portugal The Man. It was refreshing to listen to whatever I wanted to for a week. I didn't know much about X but I'm enjoying them quite a bit so far. (I'm currently on their 4th album, More Fun in the New World.)

I didn't listen to much (5 original songs) of Miley but I know most of her duets or covers are good. She seems to have pretty good taste in others' music. I never followed her or the hype or phenomena of Miley. I said yesterday Malibu seemed like one of her best songs (or maybe the video is just so warm and hot and entertaining) and Kram agrees. Karen Don't be Sad is sadly beautiful. Few young stars are as likeable. Since her voice is deep I would like to see her cover the Smithereen's "Behind the Wall of Sleep". She had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton back in 1965. She had legs that never ended I was halfway paralyzed. She was tall and cool and pretty and she dressed as black as coal. If she asked me to I'd murder, I would gladly lose my soul Well she held a bass guitar and she was playing in a band. And she stood just like Bill Wyman. Now I am her biggest fan. Now I know I'm one of many who would like to be your friend. And I've got to find a way to let you know I'm not like them Now I lie in bed and think of her Sometimes I even weep Then I dream of her behind the wall of sleep. I would love to be a fly on her wall.

Need a Pom, an Aussie and Yank then you would get great lists of how the music scene was shaped over time (with lots of crossover) but distinctly avoiding US clichés. Audiences could also learn so much more, it's a big world, and not just a "Party in the USA."
