Honestly And Then Is Heard No More is probably one of my favorites in the game because of how accurately it portrays the character for who this song plays, Phillip. The song is almost sung like a lullaby which is fitting considering Phillip's mental state quite literally and metaphorically transforms him into a child, stubbornly not wanting to deal with anything the world wanted him to suffer through and wanting to disconnect himself from it all. It perfectly captures Phillip's incredibly sad story in a world that is beyond ruthless to him, and makes you feel bad for when you have to kill him. Because despite being a coward, he did what anyone would do in such a horrible world, run away from it all. Hear no more evil, see no more evil, speak no more evil, just to find a little bit of comfort

Fun fact: the title of the song is a reference to Macbeth. “And then is heard no more” is spoken by Macbeth after his wife dies, and he goes on a soliloquy about the pointlessness of life. I don’t see many people who realize this allusion. Also, the first line about candles is also present in the same soliloquy, symbolizing how frail human life is.

to clarify the order the songs are in the game: 1: string theocracy 2: from a place of love 3: and then is heard no more 4/5: iron lotus/children of the city (the fights these song play in are unlocked at the same time so they can be heard in either order) 6: gone angels 7: poems of a machine

@@JonasNybacka Mili were commissioned to make 8 songs for Ruina but only 7 were needed for the game. So this final song was made as a tribute to the author for whom Ruina references a lot (the one whose quotes appear at the start of each chapter). This song is exclusive to the Ruina album and Mili’s KZbin, not appearing in game yet still being considered part of Ruina’s soundtrack (similar to Theme 2)

This song has some my favorite lyrics in Ruina. "Cemented excuses to my lash line, so I could see no more" or "Do the candles look forward to being used?" and "Read me a book of me So I could hear no more" - just gorgeous.

@@spacesui-t my favorite part of the is the speak line. "Every word i saved for you came out wrong afterwards. So i spoke no more" Phillip, despite everything, could still cry out for help and not accept his fate. He *could* see no more *could* hear no more But he simply spoke no more. But he still can if he wants to
@AlecBGood
@AlecBGood 6 ай бұрын
On point with the lyrical meaning guess. The song follows a "speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil" sort of story, which reflects Philip's character arc in game as he was a coward, whose constant fear and unwillingness to take things into his own hands lead to the deaths of those closest to him. Even towards the end with the "If I went with you" part, it's sorta like Philip is weighing his options on "following" them into death, but is unable to do so because of cowardice and can only imagine it. Even outside of the fights themselves, the song reflects Philip's inability to face things in his own life. Love, hate, revenge, remorse. At a point, he musters up SOME courage to face the music, but even that was short lived due to him being manipulated shortly after. The reception of the Crying Children ultimately shows Philip as the coward he believes himself to be, and even then he flees.

On the other hand, he was convinced to be this way by those around him. He originally was willing to give his life for his friends, but nobody agreed with his original choice and told him it was selfish to want to save his friends over himself.

@@nikolaysitnikov796 Yeah, Philip gets an unfair amount of hate. Yuna and Salvador literally told him to run, and then Oscar told him he was selfish for wanting to go back and fight. Damned if he did, damned if he didn't.

You ask me, Philip is just a tragic character, and the fact he ends up with the group he does at the end is even more tragic. Philip literally did nothing wrong, but he also didn't do anything right. Poor guy@@withercat1801

I swear you did a reaction to it, but the only one missing other than 'Poems of a Machine' is 'From a Place of Love'. 'And Then is Heard No More' is actually one of the earlier Mili tracks found in the game, 'Gone Angels' I believe is the last track of theirs before the credits. Another fun note of this one, in-game there are 'whisper' sound effects going on during the scene that add another nice layer to the track. This one's probably my favorite, especially with what it's attached to. That or the Intro or Credits tracks, really hard to pick a favorite honestly. Was also really cool hearing that you were in a choir like that!

It's just whispers at first. Then after who knows how many stages, it becomes whispers and this track, and finally just this track. I like to think of it as Philip slowly shutting off his senses until all that is left is just him and his self loathing.

There's another mili song "From a place of love"/lovetown theme song. But besides mili's songs for the game (which are used for big boss fights), there are more great songs of each Floor of the library, and some extra fights. The songs are: - Malkuth battle - Hod battle - Yesod battle - Netzach battle - Chesed battle - Tiphereth battle - Gebura battle - Binah battle - Hokma battle - Kether battle Those are the Floor themes, and for extra fights there are Early battle, Angela battle, Roland battle, Blue reverbration ensemble battle, and First, Second, and Third warning. Though all of those are only instrumental musics, but seeing your other contents from other games, these Library of Ruina bgms would fits very well

As already mentioned, there’s “From a Place of Love”, and then the wildcard “Salt, Pepper, Birds and The Thought Police” which isn’t in the game so I would argue doing last because it’s last on the album
@BurningTNT
@BurningTNT 6 ай бұрын
I should also mention that Salt, Pepper, Birds and the Thought Police is one of my favourite of their songs despite not having an in-game context to synchronise with, and that’s substantially due to the very blatant and specific real world context it is referencing. If you do decide to check it out I would advise taking a look at what that context is after listening to it

Another Ruina track, another song of someone's mental break, this time with the context of the phrase "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil", as the specific brand of mental break in this case is someone trying to shut themself away from everything, collapsing their mind into itself and succumbing to grief and cowardice, after getting so, so close to overcoming his fears and coming into his own.

I’ve loved seeing you experience this OST! There is one final bonus track on this album after Poems, called “Salt, Pepper, Birds, and the Thought Police”. The song itself never actually features in the game and doesn’t quite fit in with the others, but it’s a beautiful homage to the poet Yun Dong-ju who suffered through Japan’s occupation of Korea. Tiny references to his work are all over Library of Ruina. Even if you don’t turn it into a video, it’s a breathtaking hidden gem I highly recommend giving a listen either way!

I have to say Chesed Battle is a wonderful orchestral sad and inspirational theme. Gebura is interesting because of it's very creative use of electric guitar. Angela, Roland, and the Reverberation Ensemble themes are the best of the non-lyrical pieces, and Binah's theme is right after. Hod & Tiphereth sound nice, but I would prefer the above pieces over them.
