Also supposedly the copper base/ steel tip of the M885-A1 was supposedly accidentally designed definitely not on purpose to separate within a few inches of meat substance penetration, causing atleast two dispersing wound tracks, as long as the velocity is still within a certain threshold.... I'm sure 8,000 gel test videos of this exist, either proving or disproving this statement. Which I've probably watched and forgotten about, but this is my opportunity to potentially spread modern Fudd lore, and I will not miss my opportunity for glory! 🏆

I want to say that it's the hot bullet getting caught between the steel and the spall coating and just cooking that coating.
@chemistryofquestionablequa6252 Жыл бұрын
The abrupt stop turns a lot of the bullet's energy into heat. Copper is harder than lead and doesn't spatter as easily so it stays together and dumps that heat into it's surroundings. Copper is also a great thermal conductor with a high thermal mass so it can hold a lot of heat and transfer it to whatever it's touching.

@godskitten49 Жыл бұрын
There are many dangerous rumours and myths blindly regurgitated in the firearm enthusiast circles and this is one of them: Ballistic protection doesn't 'expire'. Perhaps after a few decades some adhesive does, or far earlier if you leave the plate out in direct sunlight but that's the only realistic scenario where it's ability to stop bullets is degraded. Bridges made from steel hundreds of years ago havn't fallen apart randomly nor have your dinner plates made from ceramic in the kitchen. It's a *warranty* and nothing more, undoubtedly the companies behind production of the armour don't curb these myths since it generates them more sales.
