Thank you so much Mel for all of your genuine advice, its been so much more helpful than all of the "technical" advice that I've been looking at up until now. I'm one of the holders of the VIP copy of Nightshade Academy, which I got in exchange for an honest online review. There are some things I want to say here. 1. Yahshi's motivation isn't very clear to me. He got traumatized by the Cal event, so that means that he doesn't think that he deserve to be a Guardian? 2. The writing feels a little clunky to me. I've read some of your work before, and the writing flowed pretty well. I'm hoping this issue would be fixed in the published version. 3. The pacing. You breeze through scenes that ought to have whole pages to themselves. Take your time fleshings out emotional internal thoughts and conflicts Mel. I know the book is already 400 something pages long, but no worries. Remember:- Slow pacing builds emotional moments. We need time to feel the character's emotions. I'm still reading the novel, so I will be back with more. Overall I'm liking it so far.
