Great video, but one thing I never got is how they trained cavalry to fight against enemy infantry and other enemy cavalry? I mean even a wooded sword- hitting a guy wearing loads of padding is going to hurt when applied at speed. In fact wouldn't you want to use a full weight sword, just to get the feel of the thing? Non the less when cavalry got round the flank or attack a loosely spread out foe they achieved stunning results.

This is cruelly bad riding, but yes it is a marvelous video; it shows exactly what the knowlegde was of riding at that time.

Good training film on the gaits except that the film misunderstands the canter and calls it a gallop. The riding is correct but the horse looks uncomfortable with the rider.

I think that has more to do with typical men with guns than it does with them being amateur riders. I rode with a great cav group that had one gal in the unit. I don't think she experienced any "you're just a girl" bullshit. She could ride better than most and I think she appreciated that I could actually ride classical instead of the typical, untrained rider. A real cav rider rides very controlled and I think many peeps have just see too many indian movies.

TOTALLY AGREE: "jpbabOO" most people see a pretty horse on a movie. Then a "horse trader" or breeder it is called these days sells them a horse that is TOO MUCH horse power for their skill level. I've seen MORE HORSES - that SAVED THE RIDERS ASS - than stupid. Of course I was that once too. My dad did the OLD COWBOY THINGS - I thought he was mean. Later admired him; a BAD ATTITUDE Thoroughbred colt, I GROOMED. Needed it. And one FLIP into a Sand Pile and RESPECT! No more issues. Thanks Daddy!

GREAT UPLOAD - can you TRAIN THE MEN - that do Civil War Re Enactment??? Most buy a HOT HORSE - and have no clue HOW to ride. Fall off - but take NO input from a female rider that has a CLUE HOW TO RIDE!
