I was active duty Marines from 1972-76 and used the Vietnam era alice setup with the Y harness. after a few tries at other setups I fell back to this old Alice setup over LBVE, molle etc.. This system never failed and is as versatile as the newer systems. Plus I can wear my ALICE Med back pack over it. Great video just different eras.

a spade can dig you a shelter in the middle of a field with no trees. Until you need a shovel,or saw/axe which most military spades have lightweight it is non essnetial you are correct. I personally like my spade for the simple fact it can be used as a rudementary grapple...an effective non threatening weapon, an all purpose tool hammer,axe/shovel/pryba/hoer/ firepit digger etc etc. but hey each to there own weight limits. to me it is absolutely essential for survival.

Aluminum is the third most abundant element in the earth's crust (after oxygen and silicon). It is in air, water and soil, and ultimately in the plants and animals we eat. There is Stainless Steel for those interested. I myself am sticking with Aluminum.

I wear the enhanced LBE on hunting and fishing trips, minus the handgun and I do have the butt pack. The vest is very comfortable compared to a backpack and it can carry everything you may need. The key is buying quality items for the vest and try everything out, you can buy the .99 cent whistle and .99 cent compass but items like that are good to give away at a kids party not trust your life with. The tourniquet is dangerous unless you know what your doing get in a free first aid class from the red cross or fire dept and ask about everything your not clear on. I added one of the folding shovels that Walmart has in the camping section, it mounts up on my belt in a small black pouch.

one piece of equipment that is ultra heavy but absolutely essential is the spade. one of the most valuable pieces of equipment you should carry. it would fit perfectly where your butt pouch goes. You should also have firestarting equipment which is lacking. I didnt see one of those little poncho packs either

John Koning, M.D., from Riverside General Hospital in Corona, Calif., responded, "most ingested aluminum is recovered in the feces, and much more is ingested by a person taking antacids than one could ever leach from an aluminum pan." A buffered aspirin tab may contain about 10-20 mg of aluminum.1 antacid tablet can contain 50 mg of aluminum or more.Worst-case, a person using uncoated aluminum pans for all cooking and food storage every day would take in an estimated 3.5 mg of aluminum daily.

If you are a right handed shooter you might want to move the compass and first aid pouch to a different location. You might also want to throw out that model flashlight and get something different. It is also a good idea to use some zip ties along with the alice clips.

@OneWildSurvival not to mention, ive tired ACUs in the woods. the only place they camo you is in a rock quarry. in the woods they make you stick out. My firend had to jump in a mud pit and roll around to hid during our E&E exercise.

@marc7898 I don't mind the LBE but there just isn't enough places to stash things so it was time to move up the chest. I prefer to keep as much on me as possible so if I have to ditch the ruck I can make it with what I normally have on me.

Used as directed it'll remove almost all the floating debris depending on your filter material and adds chlorine. Tastes like water if you don't like the chlorine then let it sit in the sun for awhile.

@60odeeman Those are in the buttpack and will be shown in another video. The canteen cup is not a cooking tool. Cook in the mess kit to be shown l8tr. I've have to read the studies on that new one on me. Aluminum is often used in cooking utensils, containers, appliances, and building materials. It is also used in paints and fireworks; to produce glass, rubber, and ceramics; and in consumer products such as antacids, astringents, buffered aspirin, food additives, and antiperspirants.

Just a suggestion - get rid of one of your canteens and put a small water filter there. IF you've ever ran with 2 full canteens you'll know what I mean. Also think last means of survival with your LBV. You won't need 2 compasses etc. to much weight. In the Marines our smoking lamp was 99% of the time out. Which means no LIGHT, no hot food etc. just something to think about.

i donnt see why people get so hung up over the use of clip vs mag. as long as you communicate what you mean to the audiance then its all good. its like when you ask someone to hand you the thinggymagig next to them as your pointing on it. not the right name for the thing but they understand you all the same

When I get a nice day I'll make another video on it. I need to get caught up so give me a little bit. Quick instructions: All beads are up. Pull down one of the bottom 9 beads for each 100 meters you travel. When you reach 1,000 meters, pull all 9 of the bottom beads back up to the starting position and pull down one of the top 2-4 pace-count beads. When all are back on the bottom your at 5,000 meters or 3.1 miles if you use 4 beads on the top.

@OneWildSurvival ... I dont believe plastic frame rucksack frames are all that new and untested... The Molle II riflemans pack has been fielded for over 20 years now... Also your comment seemed strange to me since the handgun in your video is made from Plastic....ie polymer... Glass Reinforced Plastic frames on backpacks scare you but plastic frames on pistols dont? Anyhoo, I think the Vest idea is the way to go for a survival / bug out kit... It allows high mobility and ease of carry

That's with everything shown in the video. Not the best but good enough to do the job. This really isn't something that can be done cheaply. If your short on cash, just buy what items you can, too get you by. Then work towards more things as time progresses. I may dump the gps since it will probably be worthless to use. Sun wipes out everything electronic it's dead weight. If government goes nuts, I'm sure they'll scramble the signal again since it is a military satellite.

@tHeWasTeDYouTh I don't think I would be going ACU for a while. ACU is new and doesn't have the years of true life testing. Example the plastic ruck frame might last 1 day in the field before it's a broken mess. (Whoever thought plastic was a good idea to use should be shot.)

***** The problem with the LBV system from when other infantry units got them they were a fixed system. Each part had a certain place where they had to be.The LBE can be attached in a few different ways like add on M16 pouches and other items that have the metallic LBE clips. The problem was not solved after around the late 90s when the Ranger Battalions started getting the RACK chest rig which was held down with a standard LBE pistol belt. This was the first system which the MOLLE system was first used in.Regular infantry units or certain units who were smart enough to grab them from the Army supply system got them in time for the initial Iraq Invasion during 2003.By then they stopped production of the RACK so they are quite rare.By late 2005 the Army went with the FLICK vest in in woodland pattern which is rare too.By 2006 when the rest of the Army was wearing the ACU pattern then the FLICK in ACU became general issue which i got in the summer of 2006 before deploying to Iraq.
