Yea I did surg tech school at ft sam of course and phase 2 at Bragg. 10+ years later, military surg tech program was really intense. Tests every other day, time managent is a must, early wakeups and late nights.

That was awesome! I was wondering what the military training for CST was like. 2.5 months in the classroom. That is really intense. My classroom time is 6.5 months and I’m terrified. Lol. I can’t imagine doing it in only 2.5 months.

I know this video was uploaded 2 years ago, but I have to say I really appreciate all the information given here. I enlisted in the Army recently and I'm leaving Nov 8th 2020 for all my training and MOS (military job) I chose is 68D (Surgical Technician) so this was incredibly helpful! Thank you very much. I will study my ass off and not quit. Sounds intense with all the studying and exams every other day, but I know I can do it.

I worked with a fellow repair consultant at Steris who was a Surgical Technician in the USAF and civilian world. Both of us work with SPD in repairing various instruments but I came from a communications maintenence field of the military (USMC/R).

Marquis Vargas no if you’re certified already then you go in as an E4 and skip AIT. So after basic you’ll get to go straight to your duty station

I am currently going to school to be a CRCST and wanted to know if there are jobs in the military/army for this. I would love to eventually be a surgical tech as well and would love to know more about getting trained as surgical tech in the army/military.

Nick when you join the Army as a 68D your training is in SPD and the OR. It will just depend on where you get stationed as to which department you will end up working in the hospital. But most hospitals will put new graduates in SPD for a couple months before moving them to the OR.

In desperate need of advice !!! I’ve been a surgical tech for 5 years. Did it thru my local career college .. problem is I’ve been in ophthalmology for the last 3 years and completely forgot almost everything that doesn’t have to do with my specialty. I’m not certified and am pretty much stuck only scrubbing at surgery centers since hospitals don’t hire without certifications. Was thinking about contacting a recruiter for the army reserves to enlist as a 68D. Coming back I’ll still technically have 5 years under my belt but now able to get into a hospital with recent clinal experience and certified. Is this a good idea ? I’m 24 with no kids or wife so all I have to worry about is rent but I can go back to my parents in the time being

Jacob Patterson yes It’s actually a graduation requirement that you take the CST exam before you graduate AIT. You don’t have to pass to graduation, but it’s required you take it.
