Military Working Dogs

Dogs have worked alongside soldiers throughout history and with US forces since the Revolutionary War. They serve our country in many ways, from patrolling to detecting explosives. Every working dog used by the Department of Defense is trained at one location, Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Coffee or Die went to get a closer look at these highly trained, chainsaw-mouthed, warfighting machines.

Nice video! Retired LEO/K9 handler here...there is nothing like being part of a K9 unit! I had plenty of times where just the mere presence of my K9 de-escalated a high tense situation. God....I miss those good old days😊

Cool video, Thanks... was a US Army MWD handler/trainer for over 10 years in the 80's. When I started, we were still using Vietnam MWD manuals. Proud to say I was on the 12-man committee to modernize the MWD manuals they are today. Best 10 years of my life.

I left a puppy with a coworkers wife, she thought she would try her hand at dog whispering an Akita. When I went to pick up the dog the lady complained that the dog was ignorant and untrainable, then the puppy stared right in the woman’s eyes and peed a hard stream on her brand new living room carpet. They might not talk but they’re very good communicators when they want to get a point across.

I always loved to see all of Super Duty trucks hooked up to stainless steel Jones dog trailers in the parking lot during our time at Lackland. Made in Woodson, Texas for the best customers in the world! One hell of a MWD program they run there, even if it is deathly hot most of the year, lol. The MWD Memorial there is also top notch work!

The shitty part about the whole thing is that the government should be bringing in the best trainers every couple years to advance the training programs. Ensure that the so called kennel masters and master trainers in the military are actually doing a great job along with doing things correctly. I've seen first hand how crappy law enforcement k9 training can be. Government isn't any better

Not drunks from my experience. It was mostly people at the airports. I had a Mal who was duel purpose and people didn’t care, they would always ask to pet, even with his collar/vest stating “Do Not Pet”. Lol
