They’re always on standby to deploy on secret service missions, and protect presidents using their expertise in narcotics and explosive detection. US military working dogs based at RAF Feltwell and RAF Lakenheath must undergo intensive training. One of their top canines, nine-year-old Yyogi is estimated to be worth $100,000. Sian Grzeszczyk went to meet him and experience his abilities first-hand…

I was helping a neighbor move, he had some police friends. One of them was a K-9 officer. He told me something I will never forget, "never run from the dog".

I learned that practically. But where i live the dogs have their own area so if i run out of their area they cant come in the area of other dogs. But its not in usa or other countries because dogs live under care of people.

I'm sure that not a secret. Its a fact ! Running from any dog will excite him either instigate his to chase and play or chase and attack. If my dog escapes the best method I use to catch the fr is I ask him to stop yell his name and then run the opposite direction going away from him and this causes him to run towards me

My father was a military dog handler when he was stationed in Korea before he went to vietnam. Dogs name was ullo. Sweetest dog he said until he gave that command, and then it was war. Best friend I think he ever had. He said when they slept at night he would put his bullet proof vest on ullo because it insisted on laying on top of him to protect him while he slept.

tk12 So true...It takes a VERY special kind of person to be able to be a vet. Compassionate, selfless, giving, highly intelligent and intuitive, and emotionally very strong. But they do get to spend their day being visited by a a steady flow of the very best patients 😍 My GSDs never snap at my vet. I thought Yogi's reaction was pretty funny...and quite out of character for the breed. Kudos to his handler for allowing him to express his feelings and frustration.

Akrovvdy330 Fortnite user Bc he is such a good trainer, did so well with Yogi, the trainer was reassigned to another dog who needed his help/guidance/training ...thus breaking up this incredible bond. In the beginning he spoke of the relationship dynamic w/Yogi being that of "a little child looking up to his father", that Yogi is a "daddy's boy" and extremely "handler protective". Dogs, esp GSDs, Mals, Dutch Sheps, are extremely sensitive, intuitive, and have deep emotions and loyalties....

We had a dog near here who was part of the county sheriff's department. About a year and a half ago Chucky was ordered to "take down" a violent offender. Even though he was mortally wounded Chucky kept fighting until his handler got there. I think they took him to the nearest ER but it was too late. He received a hero's funeral and everybody including the mayor, chief of police, sheriff and on down attended. It seemed like half the city turned out! In some municipalities it is a felony to kill a dog who is a part of the police or sheriff's department, as well it should.

If you want to be a dog handler in the Army, I believe it is MOS 31K. The army alllows you to choose your job when you enlist. 31k however is rare to get, so if you are set on it make sure you tell the recruiter you will keep waiting until a slot open. Dont let them talk you into a different MOS. Another option is to get 31B which is military police, then after your first enlistment you will probably have a higher chance to get 31k, but dont quote me, research this. If you want to go the law enforcement route and be a K9 police officer, I highly recommend you get some dog handling experience now. volunteer and help out at local dog training club that trains protection sport (shutzhund, mondioring, PSA, etc). you can start by helping out, then if you like and if they allow, ask to decoy or help handle dog. or just work/volunteer with dogs part time during high school. This will give you experience so once you become a police officer and get a few years in, you can put in the packet to get into the k9 unit. it will set you apart and give you a huge leg up on other guys.

I used to have a long hair German shepherd l.. he was never trained as a guard dog. Just the friendliest family dog you’ve ever met. One I was asleep in the back garden and 2 guys were trying to steal my brothers car from the driveway. He came and woke me up and warned me something was wrong. He then proceeded to storm out of the gate and block one of them inside the car whilst the other ran off. He stood there and barked his head off until the guy dropped the screwdriver he was attempting to use as a weapon. He then stood there for 20 minutes not letting the guy move until the police showed up! It was incredible to me that he knew the guy was bad and not meant to be there. I loved that dog so much 😁
