Do some of you remember the Boer War in South Africa? I do. My ancestor was a Boer General. No worries, though, it's been so long. A YT comment hardly does it justice, but I'm so disappointed and sorry that it seems like our current government did not light the Commonwealth Beacons like I would've expected them to do. It would've been a final, yet solemn show of reconciliation and thanks to Britain's contribution to this country's progress. It's my solemn wish that one day, we will set this dishonour right. If any Brit would be so kind to read, my great-grandfather respected Britain's role in the world as much as his colleague, General Jan Smuts, did. If we had any say left, those Beacons would've been lit in all their glory. Pure respect for Her Majesty, our last Queen. From Pretoria, South Africa.

70 years is an amazing milestone. So of course almost everyone is talking about it. But I am surprised I have not heard one person anywhere mentions the fact that in 6 days Her Majesty will become the second longest reigning monarch in world history, second only to France's Sun King, Louis XIV whom she will overtake in 715 days and set a new world record for longest reigning monarch anywhere ever.

Very true. I had worked it out as well. Louis XIV cheated by starting very young, and for many years he was by no means in charge. Our own long-serving Victoria and George III both took long breaks when they did very little. This makes Queen Elizabeth II especially unique.

God has appointed every hour that every person will die. Liz hasn't "accomplished" a thing.

@@beantrader4723 Most monarchs, especially in the 20th century, don't end their reign by dying. They end their reign by being thrown out. The British ones have been exceptionally good at avoiding that ! Of course, it helps not to die as well. Don't forget that Elizabeth is the Head of the Church of England (above the Archbishop of Canterbury). In an abbreviated rather coded form (apart from being in Latin), this is recorded on every coin, in full (as shown on some crowns) "Regina Dei Gratia, Fidei Defensor". So she has probably got round God, don't you think ? Incidentally, she has now achieved second longest reign status, and this was briefly mentioned on the BBC news. Will she beat Louis Carthorse ? I think she might.

I noticed when I was there all the ‘security guards’ 😂 were too busy filming the parade as evidenced on this video - the managers were running up and down telling them to put their phones away.

They should put some 21st-century shock-absorbing suspension on that glorious golden coach. The Queen has commented on how uncomfortably it rides.
