they're very good. they're musicality is beyond most of the other bands which is pretty amazing because those aren't native instruments. I grew up playing euphonium in a family of musicians so huge difference. A French horn has to be alien to them. Is there nothing that a Gurkha does not excel at? It's pretty mind-boggling because they didn't grow up playing those instruments in school.

The Band of the Royal Gurkha Rifles seem to love the march "Glorious Victory"! Id say its an excellent choice.

Hmm. The changing of the guard parade at Windsor is always overseen by several armed police. Here there's not even the local bobby. Why the difference?

Gurkhas are from a foreign country Nepal. They are mercenarys..
@ATurtle052 ай бұрын
Mercenaries do not undergo selection which has about a 4-5% pass rate, before basic training. They volunteer to serve with the British forces, and get army pay for it. They are amazing people, keen to fight with our armed forces and will willingly demonstrate their skills when their duties allow.
@HarrySmith-hr2iv2 ай бұрын
@@ATurtle05 They are hired soldiers........mercenaries. Nepal is a poverty stricken country and they do this soldiering because the men have no employment opportunity in their homeland Nepal.

I remember preparing for the freedom of Sandhurst back in 1967, for some reason it didn't happen. Tha Academy had its own band then .

Yes, back then the RMA Sandhurst band was considered a corps of its own, the smallest corps in the Army at the time.

Gurkhas excel at everything, but definitely their band is above most and that's rather amazing considering the instruments are alien. They don't just play notes, they are very sensitive to music. They bleating away like lost sheep; they're attentive to phrasing, dynamics and development. They're good. If hey went to a band competition, they'd definitely be winning candidates.

These are not so much drum solos as drum breaks to give the band blowing members a chance to change music march cards and have a chance to get a short rest from blowing, it's quite strenuous marching and blowing , l know from experience ! 😂
