I think the 86 series tractor had to be the most popular mixer wagon tractor... They're not particularly well suited for excessive PTO work with their dry clutch but there just seemed to be one sitting around every farm not doing anything when TMR's became popular

Freaks me out because I was raised on an organic dairy farm in northern Iowa. This looks better than others I have seen though.

These cows are only in tie stalls during milking itself. Most of the time they are in the barn where the feed is always supplied. To produce as much milk as these cows do, they need to eat a LOT.

There are more farms than you might like to think that don't let their cows out to pasture, tie stall barns included. Current management trends in the dairy industry both here in Canada and the U.S actually promote total confinement of dairy animals. I make my living in the dairy industry and over the last 10 years more and more dairy farms have closed the " back door of the barn " and switched to total confinement. It does improve the farmers bottom line, albeit at the expense of the cow.

first of all the number one aspect to cattle happiness is not if they are in or outdoors, cattle do not like change, they like routine, the other thing cattle do not like is flies which in short order when out in pasture they are covered in - and not your common house flies either, the smaller more aggressive "cow fly" and they hurt like hell when they bite. the only way a cow can try to deal with the flies is to roll in shit or mud and swat the crap out of itself with its tail

Those cows are amazing! They certainly give an excessive amount of milk.

The grocery store in my town sells organic milk in 2 liter cartons for $ 6.75 CDN. And it sells like crazy. People will pay just about anything for food if it makes them feel good. I like Joel Salatin's farming model of low input high return ( because let's face it he isn't doing it because it make him feel warm and fuzzy inside) but damn he's a real blowhard. A blowhard laughing all the way the bank.

check out Joel Salatin's work - people would be happy to pay you $10 a gallon for milk from pastured cows - fresh grass is the way to go

rawmodel you do not know what the fuck you are talking about, cows do not just eat grass milk, i have seen them knock down fences and go through barbed wire to get to corn, cows will also happily pull apples and other fruit out of trees, i can taste the difference between grass fed cows and mixed fed cows, mixed fed is healthier and more enjoyable for the cow and the milk tastes better, if you feed a cow poorly you get poor milk
