I've had a Manfrotto 055 of one variety or another for 30+ years and had the same frustration with being able to use the low height settings that the legs allow for but the centre column does not. Great video, Richard. For stabilising the slider, Smallrig sell short 'Magic Arms', sometimes with the clamp. I find these perfect with my slider, if I want it at low level. Great video, Richard, and beautiful timelapses. For those that don’t have a dedicated rotator, you can repurpose a star tracker (just adjusting the latitude to suit) to get similar results. The centre column of the Manfrotto #055 tripod centre column is two pieces. An Allen Key fits in the middle of the column and loosens the expanding piece and the bottom of the column can be pulled off. I’ve removed mine for the same reason. I’ve even made my own stubby column so I can get the whole centre column out of the way.

Thanks a lot Mike. Yes you are correct .. I just didn't have the right tools on hand to change it.

Good morning Richard, great idea for a review. As to the leveling issue, I've done quite a bit of TLing, and the trick for me (usually) is two smaller tripods. It's faster and more adaptable. Don't forget to keep those tripod legs out of the shot with those 12 & 15mm Laowa lenses. Also, lots of need for anchors and hold down weights and a good cheap carpenters level helps "heaps" too...
@nightscapeimages.richard2 жыл бұрын
All really good advice Paul. I'm working on a solution for the Zeapon as we speak. It doesn't have any 1/4 threads on the ends of the track . .So I have to improvise.
@peterkennington10432 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the imagination that you have used to generate these timelapses. I know you like the bokeh images but I find those taken with the Laowa more interesting ( as someone who doesn't get to see the MW core that much) I have noticed that my Olympus EM5 mkiii which I have just started using also makes in camera movies from time lapse images at Full HD, HD and 4K, so something to explore in the future. Wonderful video. I tried to do an astrophotography timelapse about a year or so ago. It was the first evening that Joshua Tree National Park was re-opened after being shut for a period of time during the pandemic. I used a Moza gimbal along with a Z7 with Sigma 14mm f/1.8 lens (via an adapter since the lens was an f-mount) which is a heavy combination. Unfortunately, it was also the windiest night I've experienced in a long time. It turned out pretty good, but you could see some unevenness in the panning due to the wind. Kind of a shame since it's a 2.5 hour drive (assuming there's no traffic) from where I live in Los Angeles county to the Mojave desert.
@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism2 жыл бұрын
2.5 hours is nothing. Grab a tent and get back there! What are you waiting for? Yeah, it's windy there alright! I pitched a tent outside the park on the BLM land where it's free, just outside the park before. Nice, free camping though. Get back and retry! :)
@kennyle86402 жыл бұрын
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism I completely agree. I'm just waiting until it gets a little bit warmer in the high desert. Joshua Tree is usually my backup since it's the closest National Park to me. When I want to enjoy the night beyond just astdrophotography, I make my way out to Death Valley National Park or the Alabama Hills in the Inyo National Forest. If I really want to treat myself, I go to Yosemite National Park, but that's a whole big thing especially since they're closing parts of it this year for infrastructure improvements.

@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism Thanks for the suggestion. I get seasick easily so I'll skip Channel Islands, but Pinnacles is definitely on my list.

@@kennyle8640 Oh no. You HAVE to go at least once! Just plan a trip and take a tent and stay a couple nights. The major expense is the boat ride, so make it count. Just take some pills to help with the sea sickness is all and you'll be fine. You've got to go! They have small foxes over there that come right up to you.

I think your on a winner with Zeapon Richard. With reliability, reasonable priced with the additional after-sale service compared to Edelkrone’, often the simplest things are best. It’ll be nice to see how good Zeapon system works with the Timelapes View plus ?

Thanks for watching Derek. To be honest I haven't used the Timelapse + View for over a year now. The internal intervalometer in the Nikon Z6ii has pretty much replaced the need for it.

@@nightscapeimages.richard The Z series must very flexible Peice of equipment incorporating very useful additional features especially render a 4k timelapes in camera. I’m still in the dark ages with a D850, If your not using & want to sell your Timelapse plus, I’ll be very happy to be its new owner 🤩

Amazing sequences there Richard. That slider looks really interesting, really love the tools that are available to us these days at a fraction of the cost they have been. They have historically always been let down by software, so great news to hear that is improving. Love those Ulanzi lights, I have a bag full of them 👍.

Thanks Dominic. Yes e have a great abundance of tools now to help. I'll be doing more with the Genie linear as well moving forward. I like the all in one solution of this one though. They each have their strengths and weaknesses.

My brother and I thought passively about a motorized sliding mount after seeing Alyn Wallace review the Edelkrone, but the cost is so prohibitive. Good to know there's a reliable alternative out there.

Yes I bought into the Edelkrone system thanks to Alyn's video, but I'll be selling all that gear now.

Fantastic video, I've always wondered about using sliders. The final results were awesome. I'm not sure what the flower is but Google lens might help with identifying it

Thanks a lot Kevin. I'm sure someone out there will know what it is.
